Received the following photos from Adam with a note saying he was rewiring the Don, which was a job he was "dreading the most". Max

Hi Adamcharch, That's inspiring work you're doing! Restoration at it's finest. Being able to use the flexible conduit for the new wiring is a great advantage and will provide a really neat result. That wasn't an option when we did a bit of extra wiring in our van, but the result is still unobrusive (when the cupboards are packed!). I presume you're going to leave the original wiring in place given that you've painted over it? That wiring was a bit of a work of art itself - incredibly neatly done by Don Robinson's brother-in-law, who was an electrician. The van is coming along really nicely. Looking forward to seeing the finished project. Don Ricardo

"Yes Don" all the old wiring will stay, I want to preserve as much of its history as I can. Every bit that cannot be replaced is another lost forever.

Hi Adam what a great job you are doing on the old girl ! You must be exited that it won't be long until you can finally hitch it up and head off for the weekend! I presume by the serial # that this 140 was made c1952 going by the list of serial numbers documented. A question , are the hatch stays original? I presume they are as like myself you dedicated to restoration not replacement. I mention this as they are the same as the window stays on my 49 Jennison and I haven't seem them elsewhere until now. Mine have the brand name efco cast into the face that screws onto the timber . Anyway keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to seeing pics on the road! Cheers Andrew

Thanks Andrew, the hatch stays do have efco cast into the back of mounting plate. Keeping everything original is my first priority, I feel sick when there is no other option but to put in something new but sometimes you have to and get over it, but when it comes to quality I choose that first. If I think an item won't do its job I won't use it.

Well done Adam on your work. Your interior paint finish appears to have a high gloss. Could you please advise what paint you used and how you applied it?
Regards,
Bob

Hi Akeepsake and Adamcharch, Yes, the Efco hatch stays on Adamcharch's van are standard equipment on a Don. Out of interest, below you can see the imprint of the base plate of one of the stays in the wood of the hatch on our van when I repaired and repainted the hatch a few years ago: Don Ricardo

"Thanks Bob" l used Taubmans oil based gloss with a 8mm roller. Exterior I used Dulux super high gloss sprayed. For undercoat I used bullseye zinsser 3 in one. I should have used the Dulux super high gloss for interior but its $50 more for a 10lt tin and I must have had a few extra bills that week.
