I brought van in the morning he wanted direct deposit ASAP as I live 5 hours away for pick up I thought ok I was just about to direct deposit, man at bank said something's not right here then I get a text saying I have sold van to some one else there's no refund that's why he wasn't on for cash on pick up lucky money wasn't in his account

Very lucky that the Teller picked up on the sale Gilbert. It does seem odd though that he was ready to accept your deposit & i see very often the 'listing ended by seller because there was an error'. He has a small Franklin for sale albeit a few dollars more. Ha. Anyhows good luck with your hunting down a van to suit you.

You should report this to ebay, so the next person is safe from this dodger.

Just curious gilbert, but how did the man at the bank know that something wasn't quite right with the transfer you wanted to make?

my wife said there had been a quite a few deposits for the exact same amount, for the same bank details and same person i am just glad the teller picked it up i know it was only $300 but still it should never of happened in the first place , when they want you to pay before pick up that's dodgy to start with i have learnt a lesson if they wont accept cash on pick up i just don't go near it.

That's very interesting about the banking! Never knew that the bank teller in the bank you use can actually see other transactions in the account where your money is going! In your case, you were lucky that your teller was alert and warned you, but may wouldn't, I would imagine. There is also the whole privacy issue. Makes you wonder how private the information on your account really is!!
I seem to recall a member on this forum who had agreed with the seller that he would pay on pickup, drove something like 500 kms one way to get there, only to find the van had been sold under him and he was out of pocket for the expense of the drive! A case of damned if you do and damned if you don't.
Then there is always that ebay seller out Wedderburn way, who will not sell to any vintagecaravan.com member!!!!!!!!! Watch out for HER!

Oh well I have learnt a lesson cash on pick up or don't go near it I have heard numerous times people go to pick something up only to be sold from under them as my wife said plenty of more vans in the sea so to speak

Very strange situation as his feedback(by clicking on his name & then Feedback on ee bay) is rather exceptional. The plot thickens.

Hi I'm knew here but I often read these "For Sale" threads because I'm interested in acquiring a vintage van. I was watching this one on ebay. But the listed price seems to have more ups and downs than the Aussie dollar? I think I'll leave it and move on because the description of "walls have a lot of soft areas on outer edges" scares me a bit too much! Maybe the teller warned Gilbert because he may have detected something in the recipients BSB number that was unusual such as a Load & Go account which has a BSB of 880 100. Try googling "Load and Go Scams" and you will see what I mean. But of course this may not be the case and the seller may be 110% honest & genuine and simply trying to get a fetch a fair price for the van? Cheers Asche

hi all
not all load-and-go cards use the BSB 880 100.
we have a couple we use for holidays that are BSB 880 101. it's close to what the warning mentions but it also emphasises that the warning is of a broad scope and other load-and-go cards can use different BSB's.

Yes, there are other similar Load & Go type cards available with their own unique BSB's (but they maybe be similar numbers to the AusPost ones). My gut feeling is that in this case the teller picked up something with the BSB and did some sort of internal check on the deposit history (if that's at all possible?) and then warned Gilbert that something wasn't quite right. Perhaps Gilbert may care to confirm the BSB? But, of course I could be wrong! The other thing worth mentioning is that the ebay listing is a classified ad which means that there is no bidding allowed, paypal is not enforced, and there is no ebay buyer protection...so it's a caveat emptor situation! Cheers, Asche

I was curious about whether a seller's questionable conduct would effect their ebay feedback score when they're selling through the 'classified ad' format, and turns out it doesn't. That my explain how this person's feedback remains squeaky clean:
"This unique format does not enable buyers and sellers to transact online through eBay and is not available for eBay Feedback. However, if the ad has a Best Offer option, you can transact online through eBay."
