Clyde most regretfully I cannot make the tour this year. Too much time off work these last 6 months I've worn the bosses welcome mat out. Hope you all have as much fun as we did last year on the RRT of the NSW/Vic Alps! What a great time it was indeed! Count me in for next year. Jenno

Yangan Heavy Horse Day is held yearly to raise funds for the Westpac care flight helicopter. The one day event on Sunday 3rd May is held on Mick Bradford’s farm near the small township of Yangan about 22kms from Warwick in the middle of the Darling Downs. Many of his mates bring along their teams of heavy workhorses and all tasks on the day are horse powered using farm machinery from 1800’s & 1900’s. Mick has specially grown paddocks ready for grain harvesting/reaping, mowing, raking, winnowing, hay making/baling, ploughing, plus there’s firewood sawing, a forge making/repairing wagon wheels, you name it! heavyhorseday.com/#Near Mick’s house there are HUGE camp ovens about 3ft across, with stew & damper for sale. This is the 14th year Mick has had this event and it’s great to see the old blokes training up the young guys to do the work, as they are desperate to keep these skills alive. This is a ridgy didge day, not a glamoured up commercial reproduction of farming life. So wear appropriate footwear, big horses leave big footprints & you know-what-else! I’ve phoned up Mick and he is happy to have some vintage vans come & camp on the Saturday night 2nd May in the grassy paddock next to his house. No power, no showers but we can use his Porta Loos. Mick will just charge us the $10/person admission price to his Heavy Horse Day so that means we will camp for free. I didn’t ask him about making fires but I reckon fires will be alight anyway. You may have noticed that Saturday 3rd May is the last night of the Toads n Roaches tour, so I’m suggesting this as an alternative to Saturday night at Jondaryan. Its pretty much the same distance to travel from previous destination on Saturday morning & it puts the Southerners just a little bit further south & closer to home! Most of the events are over just after lunch so it’s possible to have some travel time on the Sunday. smiles

Woo Hoo. Looks like we have a bakers dozen or so for Tenterfield on the Friday night to start the tour. Then pick up a couple more at Esk on the Saturday and Maleny on the Sunday. Also a different option at the end of the tour on Sunday 03 May. Smiles has found what looks to be a fantastic day near Warwick in the form of the Heavy Horse Day. ONLY 2 WEEKS TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok all you Toads, Roaches and Mecicans. Not long to go now!! All intending participants should have/need to book in at Tenterfield/Esk. ( see above posts) All other camps do not require any advance bookings. There is a chance that the free camp in the centre of the small township of Kandanga may be a bit full with grey nomads. If this is the case, plan 'B' is to back track the few kms and stay at the Imbil C P ( basic, but suits our needs perfectly)
Most places that we stay will allow fires.......sssooooooooooo...... could everyone who is able try to bring along some FIREWOOD! Please? I realize that some folk only have limited space to carry such stuff, but any contributions will be appreciated by all, especially if it turns a bit chilly on tour. Nothing better than sitting around a campfire with good mates enjoying camp oven tucker and the odd damper or two, hey?
Some of our group (ourselves included) will be leaving the tour on the last Friday arvo/Early Sat morning We have a family wedding while some southerners have a long way to get home and many km's to travel. So our numbers will be a little fewer for the Heavy Horse Day on the last Saturday night.
The countryside that we will be travelling through should be looking a picture with the recent rains we've been having so all in all shaping up to be an enjoyable tour.
Looking forward to catching up with the old crew and first timers alike.
Clyde, Barb and Meg.

G'Day Clyde, FYI - I was at the Kandanga Pub yesterday afternoon and what a magic day it was. I noticed quite a few "Nomads" vans in the small caravan park, as you say it might be a bit tight for a group. A lovely spot with the bowls club and pub on your doorstep, but as you and I know the Imbil Island Reach caravan park (just up the road) is a top spot too. Keep us updated on your travels and I will catch up with you for a few "quiet ones" on the night your in our part of Qld paradise. Cheers, Hillbilly Magic spot to camp at ..... New owners have just taken over the pub in Kandanga too, the meals are good.

Hi there Hillbilly. Thanks very much for the photos and info on the Kandanga scene. Much appreciated! How good is that having forward scouts for our tour!!......and with piccies too!! Yes it is a great little free camp right in the middle of a 'quaint' small Mary Valley town. Good to hear the pub meals are up to scratch also. Yes ,it will depend what we find when we hit town on the Tuesday afternoon (28 April) The space available in the camp area and the weather( no shelter at all if it's wet!) will determine whether we stay there or slip back to Island Reach at Imbil where the great old skillion roofed , open sided camp kitchen and open fire place will accommodate us nicely also. Spoke to old mate at Imbil and he's only very lightly booked midweek during this time of the year. So much so that he's dropped his price from $34 down to $28 to win our custom!......with firewood thrown in as an extra sweetener!!!!! Look forward to catching up for a sherbet or three !! Thanks again. Sutcac

Dear Clyde & Barb,
Paul has just changed jobs and so he is unable to get any additional holidays.
Therefore we can come along, but only for the Maleny nights. In fact we might go up to Maleny on the Saturday.
See you all there.
Regards Di

Hi fellow tourerists, got a surprise phone call from Tour Commandant Sutcac and Supreme Commander Mrs Sutcac last night. They are already out and about and will take the reins at Tenterfield . As they were not expected until Esk Vans will have to be ready for inspection at Tenterfield. Pam , I and Rattcliffe will meet up with pre tourerists at Wallabadah. Looking forward to catching up with tour regulars and meeting many new happy smiling faces.
Safe travel, John.

We are home early from the ECATour and had a great time - good to be home but would love to be still out there. This is a shot of the Esk camp. And here are a few from the Imbil camp. Thank you to Sutcac for organising such a great tour..... fab scenery, great friends, and marvelous food (thanks to Mrs Sutcac for the damper demo) So we hope the rest of the happy campers can avoid the rain and have a safe journey home. Hi Clyde and Barb, I had a great tour. Here are some pictures
On the way to Tenterfield
Reddo having an OTP meeting at the pub
Thanks everyone for a great tour and to those that cooked me a great meal in the camp oven. I was feed that well that I had to throw out angus burgers and sausages as I never had the chance to cook them . A special 11 of 10 goes to masterchef John strugglebrook. Thanks Barb for showing me how to cook your great damper recipe in the camp oven. Thanks Clyde for organising a great tour with many great little places to stay that I would never have went to. Loved them rough little showgrounds and staying at the back of pubs. Cheers till next time. Chippy Dave.

Hi All, Well thanks Sutcac for another great tour. We started at Tenterfield , arriving after lunch Thursday. We left our van at the caravan park in storage on our way home from Tingha, where we had spent Easter with Boblor , in the rain. Found Clyde & Barb already there & set up. The park has a good camp kitchen, with a good fireplace. Friday morning others were expected, so Clyde & Barb made a big pot of pea & ham soup, along with garlic prawns, to warm up the expected arrivals from (mainly) down south. Turned into a good night around the fire. Saturday a few went to Anzac Day dawn service, then we headed for Esk. A lovely trip through beautiful country, ending at another pretty town & caravan park. We picked up a couple of surprise travellers from Cairns, who met us at Warwick. It was great to meet them, & they proved to be very good travelling companions. While sitting around reminiscing at Esk with Earlee, we worked out it has been 10 years since we had our second SE Qld vintage van outing there. He, Reddo, Boots & I were the only members still involved that had been on it & this trip. Sunday travelled around the Somerset Dam, & up to Maleny for a couple of nights. Looked around the area, & had a couple of good nights sitting around a couple of barbeque pigs, drinking & carrying on. Mark T. & Woo Woo, & Hillbilly called in, & agreed to join us at Imbil when we got there. Tuesday headed off to Imbil. We stopped at Kenilworth, sampled the cheese factory wares & coffee shop. Had a lovely drive thru some beautiful country, travelling along the ridge of the coastal mountain range most of the way.Had a great night around a big campfire, with camp ovens. Wednesday off again, thru more windy narrow roads. Found another great little town at Kin Kin. Good coffee shop, & we parked on the town sport oval for photos of the group. Continued on, & found Clyde had snuck in his usual piece of dirt road for us. We stopped for lunch at the pub at Kilkivan, then headed for Goomeri showgrouds. Pretty basic little country town, famous?? for its pumpkins. As with most inland country towns, most of the shops had been shut down by their operators thru lack of business. Then it started to rain, after lovely weather up till then. We drove all day, checked out antique shop at Wondai, & had lunch at Yarraman pub, & finally got to Maidenwell . Rain was getting heavier, so as there isnt much to do at Maidenwell in the rain, we packed up & drove home on Friday early. All in all, a great tour. Saw lots of new country, & travelled with a great bunch of people. Roll on next tour JBJ

Well what more is there to say, as always we had a great time. Getting to see places we had n`t heard of let alone been too, catching up with regular tourists and meeting new ones. Mr and Mrs Sutcac please take a bow . So many highlights, the vans, the cars, the people, all the places and even a visit from Bargwon Shree Ragnish. But if pushed what about the 11 out of 10 pumpkin soup, unbelievable !!!
Hope to catch up with everyone again soon.
Cheers The Datsun Towing Team.
