Hi Folks I hope this works...couldn't photobucket to work, so am trying imageshack. Some of you may have heard I had had a problem with a bit of a noise under the bonnet of my FX, after leaving the VV nats. Got just past Coombah Roadhouse between Broken Hill & Wentworth when this happened..... Steve

I've seen the insides of these things a fair bit Steve and I would say "that's not right" would have come to a pretty quick stop I'd say, you on to a new power plant?

Hi Humpyboy Yes...am in the process of rebuilding one. I have a neighbor with a shed full of Holdens. He may have got the hint something was wrong, when a tilt truck dropped my car in his driveway at 10.00pm Friday night after the Nats). Even though he had a rebuilt 138 engine I could drop straight in, and another one he was in the process of rebuilding (he likes a couple of spares in case someone like me knocks on his door), we decided we'd look inside mine just for fun!!!! He said I could start with the one he was putting together, which was a block with pistons, new bearings etc already fitted, even sitting on an engine stand... The head is still fine on mine, and he had a selection of sumps for me to choose from, so I am playing on weekends putting it together. Cheers Steve

G'day Steve,
That's pretty sad mate. After getting a lift back to the caravan park in that car and commenting on what a nice restoration job you had done on it, who would think she would do that to you ? No worries, I'm sure you'll have her up and running better than ever in no time, good luck with it.
Cobber.

Hi Steve.. Man... You don't do things in half measures do you OUCH !!! That stretch of road is a lonely place when things go wrong aye?? I cooked the automatic in the '86 Turbo diesel landcruiser on that stretch of road on a detour heading home from the first Vint Van Nationals back in 2006. Limped into B.H the next morning in second gear... 30 kph for 75 Kilometres towing a van .. getting abused by the iron ore trucks that run all night and day out there. NRMA servo done a full auto transfusion and service. All good after that. I hope your car makes a full recovery soon. You are lucky to have a mate with spares. Motors are getting harder to find as the years go by Reddo

Hi Folks, As per the photo's above, the engine is already out the car and pulled down (well as far as needed - only took the engine mount off front of the block, and then sat the block in the corner of the shed out of view). Spent last Sunday playing around, and will spend this weekend slowly putting the motor back together. One thing I did find was the car was very economical on the way home. Just glad I got back to Pinnaroo under the cover of darkness as it was a bit of a shame job really!!! Cheers Steve

Hi Folks, After a bit of playing around ie the recon engine in and out three times (only working on the weekends), it is all good. Finally the FX is going again without that little hole in the side of the block. Took her on her first test drive this arvo. Cheers Steve
