Thanks Mark The pixie is usually towed by our EH. The FC although fitted for towing will only tow the Pixie on the odd occasion. Does anyone knows the year this van was built as I have been told by various people they think it to be early to mid 60s. I have cleaned & painted the interier, laid new vinal, fitted new curtains, purchased a new mattress. Externally I have had some waterproofing done, also a few panels re screwed. Next year I hope to renew the front panel & have a canvas awning made up. The van has full NSW registration ready for Coledale. Bruce

I have the same van, and having the same problem trying to date it and find out a bit more about it's actual brand/type and history. All I've got to go on is the registration papers saying it's a Custom Build (the previous owners tell me that's because no one at Licensing knew what it was), but the year on the papers says 1957.
For the life of me I haven't seen another aluminium Pixie besides yours, nor have I been able to find any info on Pixie's per 1957, so I'm thinking, maybe my rego papers are wrong?
My Internet research leads me to think it's a Munro Pixie built by (then) Munro Caravans in NZ (changed to CI Munro, bought by Maui & Britz, and more recently named Motek) but I can't find any pics to back that up.
Does anyone have any info? I feel like I'm doing an episode of "Find My Family"! Lol

Hi Kyles, If your van is the same as Bruce and Jan's it was built by Mathews Brown & Sons in Mortlake, NSW. We don't know much about the history of Pixie vans, but there's a smidge more to be found in the Down History Lane section here. Again if your Pixie looks the same as Bruce and Jan's with the same ridged aluminium cladding on the side and the rounded bulkhead over the front window, my guess is that it would be later than 1957, even though that's what's on the rego certificate. Those features didn't really come in until the 60's. It's possible that Mathews Brown were well ahead of everyone else, but on balance, unlikely. When vans have passed through a few hands the actual brand and build date can sometimes get lost, and then at some point somebody makes an informed (or uninformed) guess about who it was built by and when, and that's what ends up on the rego sticker when it's re-registered. Anyway it's good to hear there is another Pixie around. There's certainly not many of them out there. Maybe you'd like to post some photos so that we can all admire it? There are instructions on how to post photos in the 'Forum Guidelines and Helpful Hints' section. (PS We all love looking at photos... ) Don Ricardo

Thanks Don. The other reason I assumed Pixie is because that's what's on the aluminium on the back - seems reasonable enough to me! But you might be right, the year is probably wrong. I'll work out how to post some pics for you all to have a look at. Kyles

My Pixie's currently having an Extreme Makeover, although I has originally just wanting to give her a polish and paint, maybe some new Lino and curtains, but it seems I got a bit carried away! ( I don't think I'm an orphan here tho So she's been gutted entirely and we're starting from scratch with complete new wiring, insulation, walls, cabinetry and the final decorations. Am trying hard to keep things original, but have a feeling what was in there may not have been original anyway. It's tricky to decide which way to go - stay true to it's heritage or go with what I like? The thing is, what I'd like is it to be true to her heritage....lol Would be really helpful if I could see what the original interior looked like. Anyone got any pics?

Hi Kyles,
Good to see some pics of your van. Thanks for that.
Given the design with the Pixie distinctives, and the Pixie logo on the back , there's no doubt that's what it is. I wasn't meaning to question it's maker, if that's how my post came across. I was just putting a question mark over the build date. Having seen your van I would still think that it is a 60's van.
If it's OK with you I'll copy the photos of your van to the DHL thread so that we have a bit more info on Pixie vans there for future reference.

Sure can Don. Any suggestions on where to look for a compliance plate if there is one? Kyles

Just had a look at the photos and it isn't a Munro Pixie from C I Munro in Otrohaunga, NZ. (Below is a link to the photo of mine) Mine has the Pixie logo on the door which is the standard for these vans along with a 'MUNRO' metal plate on the front and a plate on the left side of the dealer who sold it. (Still don't know when it got to Aust though) When i first got my van I researched the 'Pixie' and there was another company, possibly in NSW that made a few vans branded Pixie. The close cousin to the NZ Munro Pixie is the crusader vans which i beleive CI Munro were making as well. here is a link to a photo of my Munro Pixie towed behind my Hillman Hunter wagon. vintagecaravans.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=runevent1&action=display&thread=5271&page=3Rollydog
