I've just been looking at the options available when you click the gear wheel in the top right hand corner of any post. There is an option called "Link to Post" which might substitute for the Reply # system of reference. You can either have the linked post show as part of the original thread, or you can nominate for it to show independent of the thread. See my dummy links in the post I just created in the Tow Couplings thread And Don R said,
Hi Cobber, You're right about not having the 'Reply #' to refer to. That was really convenient. But on the other hand it was also a bit of a pain when posts got deleted from the thread because Reply #58 would then become Reply #55, etc, so the reference then became not very helpful. Maybe what we need to do now is to make a reference to the person making the post and the date, eg 'post by Cobber on 13 May 2009'. Then the reference will continue to be valid even when posts are deleted. Of course if a person posts on the same subject several times on the one day...but who would do that? (Except thee and me! ) Does that mean you need to go through the Tow Coupling index and re-reference the posts, and I need to go through DHL and... Don Ricardo
G'day Don R and Al franklin1,
Gee I love the way you young blokes accept the challenge and come up with solutions to these big issues ....... Me, I was going to make excuses regarding the Tow Coupling index like..... "Even though the Tow Coupling Thread has had 23353 views the actual Index has only had 1963 views so is it worth keeping ? " ( and half of those views would be me looking at it and trying to keep it accurate )
Not sure how either of your ideas would apply to the tow coupling index and the way it is presently structured, in the case of 'Dymwood' couplings it makes at least 10 appearances spread over 9 pages... WE'LL have a look at it aye?
Cobber.

The big grinning face emoticon that was used in the previous version, does not transfer to the newer version5. Different code used for that emoticon. Was ;D but is now ' ' (without the ' ' ) You'll see lots of old posts with the old grinning face code now showing, not the emoticon (especially firefighter who used it a lot ) Also stickied in the Whatever index is the original thread about changing to the new version, started by reddo. Admin can release the sticky, I reckon. cheers, Al.

Hi all, Is anyone else having trouble with the Search function of the forum? Whatever search I do, it ends up telling me that no posts or threads were found. It's driving me crazy! Don Ricardo

G'day Don R, Yes I've been having the Same problem intermittently, right now it's working OK for me. At one point I found if I limited the search to 500 days it would give a result, but if I asked for 7000 days it would find nothing but.... that may have been due to the intermittent nature of the problem Cobber.

Yep, I've been having the same problem for over a week now. Similar sort of problem also happens with the Member's list - search for member's names starting with a particular letter, and it comes back with only a couple of names. Go the long way and search page by page through the member's names and it shows the lot. No problems being experienced over on the Classic forum, so it's gotta be something to do with this forum alone. Must be part of the new, exciting, and fun forum. You're not supposed to get frustrated, DonR. You're supposed to laugh 'till your eyes water. cheers, Al.

Hi Cobber and Franklin1,
I am glad to hear that it's not just me...I think!
I've reported the problem on a Proboards Support thread. There are a couple of other forums reporting the same problem over the last couple of days. Hopefully we can get it sorted out...
Don Ricardo
