What has happened??
Its a big change. personally I find the colours annoying, & dont like using a black background.
I also notice our avatars etc have been replaced by a stupid looking cartoon head, which I realised disappears after I posted this, & avatar returned to normal..
Explanations on how to get info onto this format would be appreciated by most I'm sure. What was wrong with what we were using??
If it aint broke, dont fix it.

Thumbs down for the green look I second that!! Some clean nuetral colours would be better. I see you can change the theme in your profile settings - 2 choices, but they don't do anything; nothing changes when you select. Oz

No, unfortunately you're not wrong. Seems like somebody decided it wasn't required in the latest version.

It just dawned on me that this forum is not showing alternate colour background/white background as each new post is made in a thread (see this thread in the Classic forum to see what I mean). I think the alternating background colour makes it easier to navigate through all the posts. Notice how posts in this new version don't get a "Reply #" anymore? No longer can you refer someone to Reply #35 in such-and-such thread.

Hi JBJ, You have asked a couple of questions a lot of people are probably asking... 1. As far as most of us concerned there was nothing wrong with the forum as it was...however, Proboards in their wisdom introduced a new version of the software platform we use for the forum early in 2013. The moderating team put off converting to the new platform until literally the last day and moment, but in the end we had no choice and we have been converted. The new version of Proboards is supposed to be more 'social media' friendly, which may not be a plus for most of us, but probably is for a lot of Proboards users. So it just goes to show - there's no getting away from "progress". In the end it just rolls over you whether you like it or not! 2. Regarding explanations and getting info from this format, etc, the moderating team will be on a steep learning curve just like everybody else. However, if people can list their questions, we can work out the answers together and then post them for future reference. Franklin1, who is a moderator for the Classic Caravan forum, has been using the new version of Proboards for some time, so may be able to come to our rescue on some issues. Don Ricardo

Can I just remind everybody that right at the top of the page .... under VINTAGE CARAVANS there is a tool bar .... Home. Help. Search. Calendar. Members. Profile. Bookmarks. Messages.
If we click on the 'Help' button we can find the answers to a lot of the questions we might have
Cobber.

Looks like the ability to click on the column heading on a Board and have the threads arranged in alphabetical or numerical order doesn't exist now...... hope I'm wrong
Hi Cobber, You're sort of right and sort of wrong... (I'm smiling not because you're wrong, but because I hope you'll be pleased with the info below.) Yes, the ability to sort threads by 'Subject', 'Created by' or 'Last post' has gone. BUT you can now find the info a bit quicker using the Search facility on each Board. For instance, I can go to the 'General - 2008 onwards' Board, press the little magnifying glass beside the search space, then when the new box displays, say what I'm looking for (or not) and choose a filter to find all the threads created by 'Cobber' which have been created before, on or after a certain date. You can also use the filter for 'Created by' to choose more that one 'creator'. I think that's actually going to be more useful than the old method because, after sorting the threads alphabetically by 'Created by' - or by 'Start date' - you then had to start guessing where, say, Cobber's threads started - maybe page 5, nope that only got me to 'Bu', what about page 10, nope that's got me to 'Ed'... Now the forum will list all of Cobber's threads for me straight off. Incidentally, the 'Start date' filter lists all the applicable threads by date of the last post - I can't remember if that's how the old system worked or not? Don Ricardo

Hi All,
What a few of you don't understand is that not everyone uses "Social Media" or "Facecrap", don't own tablets, or Ipods, etc, & are happy to live our lives without them.
After all this is (supposedly) a VINTAGE caravan Forum, & I would expect that a lot of our "genuine" members (those that really are committed to vintage caravans, whether they own one or not) are of relatively similar mindset.
I know we should progress with the changing technology, but I for one don't like to be forced to use things I dont want to. I'm not computer illiterate, & make a living drawing plans by Computer Drafting.
I guess I will bumble along & eventually get the hang of the changes, probably the day before the geeks upgrade it again.
C'est la vie

G'day and thanks Don R, That does clear up the method of finding posts by a particular member... and that is good As pointed out by Al in the post below it was useful to be able to sort the number of 'views' or 'replies' in those particular columns...... I can't see if that facility is still available Am I wrong again ? ( I hope you are smiling again ) Am I right in my reading that........ more than one 'attachment' can now be added to a post (depending on the size, which now appears to be more liberal than it was previously ) Cobber. G'day jhuxley, Good on you for wanting to educate yourself before taking the plunge. There have been people who have gone the other way - frantically grab a van and then wonder what they do with it to fix it up. I always think new people could do themselves a great favour by reading through the completed restoration threads in the "Members Photo Album" section. There are currently 46 pages of threads, with 25 threads per page, which means you could read about 1,150 van restorations if you wanted to. You would be more educated than the rest of us if you went to that trouble. The way to narrow down the Members Photo Album to see the popular restorations is to do this: 1. Open up the Members Photo Album section. 2. Across the top of the list of threads there is a dark blue band, with the column headings "Subject", "Started by", etc. Click on the actual word Views above its column, and all the threads will be sorted according to the number of views they've had, from 'most' to 'least'. Usually you'll find the threads with the most views are the threads that have fairly comprehensive restorations involved. You would end up being fairly knowledgeable if you read all the threads on the first two or three pages after you sorted them according to the number of views. cheers, Al.

2up: If you go to the bottom of the forum Home page, and look for the section headed 'Forum Information & Statistics' then look for the heading 'Threads & Posts', you'll see some links for 'Recent Threads' and 'Recent Posts' which may be what you're looking for. Threads with new posts are marked 'New'. There is also a little box up the top right of the forum window which says 'New - Participated' which takes you to all the threads you've contributed to where someone else has placed a new post. Hopefully, the above will help you find what you're looking for. If I've misunderstood you, explain a little more and I or one of the other mods will try and help you. JBJ: I think many, many forum members - but obviously not all - would share your thoughts on social media and other such 'modern flim flam'. However, perhaps what I didn't explain clearly enough was that the decision to 'upgrade' to the new version of Proboards was not made by the moderating team or the forum administrator, but was a compulsory upgrade by Proboards. In other words it was not something we had a choice about. In fact, as I indicated earlier the moderators delayed the conversion until the last date permitted by Proboards. A lot of us don't really enjoy change particularly, if our old and true methods don't work any more. However, we've all learnt to use the old Proboards and I guess we'll get to know how to use the new version, given a bit of time. Doesn't make it any fun for a lot of us though, eh? I haven't been looking forward to the change, but already I've found a couple of really useful things that the new Proboards did that the old one didn't, so there are some positives. Don Ricardo

Lots of people struggling with finding 'Newest or 80 most recent posts'. I have always had this page set as my bookmark so it opens at this anyway. BUT- to find:, go to home page, scroll down to 'Forum Information & Statistics' & click on Recent Threads.

Figured out how to change between the purple/white theme and the green/black theme: Click on 'Profile' tab, then click on 'Edit Profile' on RHS, then click on 'Settings' tab, then scroll down to 'Forum Theme', and click on arrow to select either 'Anniversary' = green/black theme, or 'Classic' = Purple/White theme (much easier on the eyes!)

But what I do not like is that when you get to the bottom of a page, you have to scroll back up to the top to go to the next page/see if there is a next page Am I missing something??

( I hope you are smiling again ) Am I right in my reading that........ more than one 'attachment' can now be added to a post (depending on the size, which now appears to be more liberal than it was previously )... Cobber. Hi Cobber, Regarding the issue of ordering threads by 'Views' or 'Replies', this time you are more right than wrong... BUT you can still use the 'Reply Count' filter in the search facility to achieve a bit of what you want, on the basis that the most interesting and long-standing threads tend to get the most replies. So, you can go to the 'Members Photo Album' section and then using the 'Reply Count' filter search for threads with, say, 50 or 100 replies. if you filter for 50 replies, that will bring up about 45 threads, almost all of which are about detailed restorations, although they are still ordered by the date of the last post. So that's a qualified Regarding the attachments, I don't know the answer to that one. So that's a 'I dunno'... Don Ricardo
