G'day f/f, What is the capacity of the second caravan park? Some of us with vans from the "C" period have been talking about wanting to attend, but are waiting for all the vintage vans to be sorted out, to see if there might be room for us in a back corner somewhere. I guess if the Showgrounds are a third option, then it sounds like they'd fit us in, somewhere in town? I know way back at the start of this thread that DonR talked about those people without a vintage van maybe getting a cabin, or something, rather than taking a non-vintage van. But, given the latest info about available space in town, is it possible an invitation could be extended to people who have an interest in vintage vans but won't be actually taking a vintage van? cheers, Al.

Hi Franklin1, "C period" - I love it! ;D ;D ;D Thanks for raising this question - others may be wondering as well. In the original announcement for the 2012 Nationals we said (emphasis added): The Nationals are primarily and mainly intended for forum members and others with Vintage Caravans - but we are aware that some forum members have classic caravans, and that other V V’ers like to attend events with friends who come in non-vintage vans. All such people are very welcome to attend. Another option for those attending without a Vintage Caravan is to consider booking an en suite cabin. This will free up a space for another vintage van. The Nationals are partly about creating a spectacle of vintage vanning, but we do not wish to exclude anyone who would like to attend.So...people with "C-class" vans ;D ;D ;D should feel very welcome. If you have a Classic van and have been hanging back so as to ensure that no V V'ers are excluded, then thank you for your consideration. However, do make a booking for one of the parks at Cowra. I'm sure the rest of us would love the opportunity to meet you and/or put a face and name to your forum handle. Don Ricardo (Franklin1, I might just confess at this point that the first phrase in bold was written - and it was I who wrote it - with a certain forum member with a C-class Millard specifically in mind. Not sure who that might be... :

Thats another part of my brain i wont have to keep activated while in Cowra... ;D ;D ;D Ummmmm..can ya also have the tags printed with the van park and site number I have trouble finding my way home too..... ;D Of course the problem will only be compounded if ya take up on ChippyDaves idea of discount hooch at the local bottlo's If that idea comes to fruition... .. i will get may name and site number tattooed on my forehead .... so its always on my mind!!! Gotta love these organisers guys !! Hic... burp.. Reddo

Cobber. Now Now Cobber don't start getting too worked up, you know how these things can get out of hand on the forum ;D ;D ;D and we don't want anymore bad blood prior to everyone catching up again at Cowra. I also am happy to wear a name tag, especially when I remember to put it on. ;D I am still in my forties but already have a touch of alzheimers. ;D Mind you I will only need to wear a name tag if my reputation hasn't already preceeded me. ;D ;D ;D ;D I am sure it will be very helpful all round for everyone to wear the name tags, but we are all adults and so therefore we should all be capable of deciding whether we do or don't choose to wear a name tag. I'm sure the Moderators realise that they can't "make people wear them". Looking forward to catching up with everyone at Cowra. Bob (Cobber), love to you and Yvonne Regards Di

Back from Cowra tonight and my big load of hay(70 bales) didn't feel so big when the farmer pointed out that his shed currently had 30,000 bales in it!! Pleased to say that after eyeballing the cowra van park I can't wait. ;D ;D ;D Lovely shady place , spotless dunnies, showers and camp cookhouse/BBQ. It is not as spread out as I had pictured in my minds eye so everyone and everything will be close to hand from a socializing point of view. Reddo(sorry, was that cobber), you will be pleased to note that the Cowra hotel is about 60/70 yards up the road with another choice of pub a further 50 yards up the road from it. An easy stagger. Both pubs were those lovely old style jobs with big verandahs, wrought iron railings etc . Great atmosphere and surroundings. Had dinner at the bowlo (again an easy walking distance from the park)........best cheesy garlic bread I have had in a long while and the cheese and bacon topped snitzel was tops too! Can't wait, can't wait , can't wait jenno

They'll say …... …......that's Cobber . I've seen/heard you in action at three Nationals remember................... God help us Cobber. P.S. Its all good old fella.... I promise to be on my second best behavior this time. I have been given an important job by the organisers, so i promised them i will do my best... ... more on that later. Mt Gambier was a bit of a problem as born in 54 and it was my 54th birthday back then.... Will and Lyn started things off with the "VB Cake"... As niether Will nor Lyn drank it was not thier fault. ...Nor do i see it being Mels fault.. just a few of us got a bit rowdy watching the cartoons projected onto the side of Mels van.... a bit.... I am camped next to Clyde and Barb ( Sutcacs) at Cowra. I will give them instructions to clobber me if me n the neighbours make any noise after the park curfew time. Jenno.... your description of the pubs and the local fare sound good. Might even leave the fry pan at home. Regards Redd-obber.. um... Cobbo

We are new members and just managed to upgrade from unpowered to powered. We are site PG46. Craig asked me to tell you there are 5 unpowered sites left as of today. We called ourselves Chevron because we hope to tow our (approx 1960?) Sunliner with our '57 Chev. Just sorting out the tow bar, air bags etc. Have read all your comments on the Forum and are looking forward to meeting you all. Mick & Lesley

Hi Maurie,
I'll go along with a cruise. A bit of luck it might be sunny enough to take my roof off & get sunburnt.
I've got a 95 litre tank, so I can a bit further than Geoff can.

hi again maurie and everyone else
keep in mind that the admin team is working on a number of organised events during the nationals week.
at this point we haven't announced anything because some of the "finer details" are yet to be completed. it would be nice if members going to the nationals support the activities that are being organised.
i can say that included is a car run out to one of the neighbouring towns where there are a number of interesting sightseeing venues and the locals have agreed to certain discounts when we visit.
i think that geoff 'n jude may have jumped the gun a little with the day trip to wyangla dam, but that's not to say that the suggestion couldn't still happen.
even though everything isn't finalised, i'm pretty sure that the admin team will be publicising some of the activities within the next week or so.

Ok folks, I have bitten the bullet and decided that rather than rush the restoration I will be doing the nats in an onsite cabin. (damn myself for deciding to strip the interior to insulate and rewire DOUBLE damn my boss for keeping me so busy that I haven't had time to finish it !!$%#$#@%# !!) I see it as an opportunity to 'donate' an unpowered site back to the fold, and also to do some research/drooling on already restored vans. Hope that doesn't disqualify me for pennants and stickers!!

hi all cowra tourism has now added the nationals to their website. simply change the date settings to span from 28/4/2011 to 6/5/2011 to have a look. it's in its infancy at the moment but tourism will add to it as they get more information. the website also shows other activities/events that are happening at cowra while we are there. conti

the classic caravan forum is going absolutely gangbusters with 375 members and over 500 people viewing it daily We as vintage vanners would be silly to overlook the popularity of classic caravanning At the end of the day, we're all pretty much in the same boat anyway, ................. ie have a luv of old & older caravans....... mostly because of design and superior build quality, .....luv caravanning & the lifestyle .........and mixing it with like minded people and mates ! So yep, its all good regardless Mark

So ….
Have been having a think (OK, I’ll be honest, more of a stew over the reaction to it) over my original post and whether or not there was anything wrong with it, and I have come to the conclusion that no, there wasn’t.
I have also come to the conclusion that the reaction to my original post was uncalled for, and that by having a dummy spit and deleting them I have made myself look like the bad guy. So I now want to set the record straight.
The original post that I put up simply was intended to point out that there was a mistake in the way the original wording (now corrected) was in the entry on the Cowra website. The wording said “no vans older than 1970”. Obviously, the intent of the entry was to say that vintage vans are considered as vans that are older than 1970, whereas the wording as it stood said the opposite.
In my original post I pointed out the above, and said (tongue in cheek) “aren’t we allowed to come???” meaning aren’t we, vintage vanner’s, allowed to come; given the “no vans older than 1970” error. This was accompanied with my usual few dozen emoticons indicating that this was humour …..
So the reply (223) from f/f has a go at me saying I didn’t read the first post and that classic vanner’s are welcome and so on (you can read it for yourself, its still there).
After a couple of other replies along the same lines, I thought my original post has been misinterpreted, so I wrote another post explaining the above. I also apologised for any confusion and reiterated the fact that I also enjoy classic caravans (I am a regular contributor on the forum there, as many would know).
The reply to that post (227) is what generated my dummy spit in deleting my previous two posts … I believe the response was uncalled for as well as being outright rude as I tried to correct any misinterpretation of my posts and meant no harm in the first place, in fact, I was trying to help.
I still do not see anything in the reply referred to in f/f’s post (227) that would indicate that “if I had read the post then this c^*p wouldn’t be on here” as it does not mention that the wording was wrong on the Cowra website, only that it was being updated; not being privy to the update there was no way I could know if the Nationals team was aware of the error.
I really enjoy this website as a rule, but not this little episode.
Well, I feel better having got that off my chest, and if your still with me then thanks!

Hi Cruisindoug, I'm very sorry that the exchange of posts earlier this week has caused you so much distress - especially so because it all happened on your real (as opposed to forum ) birthday, of all things. I need to confess on the open forum, as I already have confessed to you by PM, that I initially misread the intent of your first post (and Reddo's) because I totally misread what was on the Cowra website. When I looked at it, I read it as saying something like "all vans will be older than 1970" - just goes to show that sometimes you read what you think it says, not what it actually says. My focus was on the "all vans", and therefore I rushed into type to assure everyone that people with Classic and modern vans were NOT excluded, hence my post (now deleted) reiterating the point that Classic and modern vans are WELCOME at the Nationals if their owners want to come and be part of the event. I believe that Firefighter may have made the same error as me, hence his post. However, after your second post I realised what you were actually saying about the error on the Cowra website, and I emailed the website to ask them to amend their wording (as Firefighter had already done by telephone). So...it was all a case of misundertanding, and I apologise for not reading carefully enough before putting finger to keyboard. As Seeshell has pointed out, it is an all too frequent problem with life online. I am grateful to you and Reddo for pointing out the unintended meaning of the words on the Cowra website. The problem has now been fixed! I trust that with you now having explained your purpose in posting, and having received this response, you will feel a bit better about things. And just to pick up on Smiles post about the confusion that may have been created by the various posts back and forth, and to make the position quite clear re who may attend (please read through right to the end!): The Nationals are primarily and mainly intended for forum members and others with Vintage Caravans - but we are aware that some forum members have classic caravans, and that other V V’ers like to attend events with friends who come in non-vintage vans. All such people are very welcome to attend.Don Ricardo

Hi All... Reality .. we need to focus on reality.... i,e: the world outside of computers that we can so easily get drawn into with cyber bitching. It can drive wedges between longstanding good relationships. The Nats arent that far off and .... I am betting there are heaps of us out there with a "To Do"list nailed.. or sticky taped to thier vans. reality.. did i mention reality... I for one have a list a mile long .... I need to prioritise what is important ... Needs to be done urgently What would be nice to have done .. and.. What really doesnt matter too much .. Reality... did i mention reality!!!! Focus on getting out in the sun .. or rain depending on where ya live ....with hammer .. nails .. drill and paint brush Get away from the dreaded blue rays of the idiot box and get the job done so my van and towcar are looking thier best for the end of April... Now....THAT is reality Regards Reddo
