Morgan 2006 (First Nationals)

Okay I know about the "meet in the middle" section but I think it is time that we started to get serious about this run. I have a few questions.

1) Who is in charge of booking the sites so that we are all with one another?

2) Who is going to Morgan?

3) The official dates for arrival etc?

4) Who from this site is going to coordinate it all?

I for one will be going but need to know a bit more info, and if someone has the job of coordinating it all thats good but if there is nobody then let me know as I'm prepared to take it on(if no-one else wants to)

in reply to your request and to clarify it for all attending the great bend in the elbow rally of 2006 at morgan ;D

i have booked 20 sites from easter monday april 17th to friday 21 [ 4 nites ]. the sites are booked under my name [ dave w ] so if anybody attending has rung and booked under their own name please contact me or the park [ call peter , phone number in the meet in the middle thread] and/or i will change it over to the vintage van site booking, that way we wont have booked two seperate sites and taken up extra space at the park

they are just about booked out so we don't want to bugger them around

as for who is going, ???the list i have is;

we leave good friday and should rock up on the monday, stay the four nites then move on to the street rod nationals at bamera, just up the track.

When I spoke to the caravan park they said if anyone has already booked the just ring the free call number 1300552754 and they will just group us altogether.
Due to the date we also have the use of an area in which they will allow use to have a camp fire in which we can tell some of those caravan stories ;D ;D ;D

Hi all.

My name is Lorraine, one of the partners at the Morgan Riverside Caravan Park. I have all the reservations made, and look forward to seeing you all on the 17th April, 2006. I have made the reservations under 'vintage caravans', so when you telephone, just ask to transfer one of those sites into your own names.
Our normal rates are $22.00 per night, but for your group there will be a 10% discount, bringing the fee to $19.80 per night for two people.

We are a family owned and operated park. There is Peter and myself, and our son Brenton and his wife Joanne, (who do most of the work)..... We are all avid caravanners ourselves and look forward to seeing you all.

The fire ban will have ended here by the time you arrive, so fire buckets will be available for you to sit around and drink your cokes and milk.........lol....

There are two hotels in town, so if you decide to have a formal meal together, I can recommend them both, although bookings would be suggested as it is during our school holiday period. There is also an RSL hall that is within walking distance that you can arrange to hire for a VERY low fee, for any reason.

There is an electric barbeque close to where you will be parking, but if this is insufficient then we have a large one here that we can take down for your exclusive use. Just mention this when you check in and one of the guys will take care of it.

Does anyone have any objections to us informing the local paper about your visit? This area has a high number of 'senior' residents who would certainly remember the era of your caravans, and would be interested in knowing about your stay here. If there are any objections please don't hesitate to let us know.

There is a town near by called BURRA
It is an old mining town that has tours of the old mines and has a history in the area. Most of the WA guys might go though it on the way over here. It's about 120km west of Morgan. It also has about 9 antique shops there.

Those antique shops in Burra are a trap retro..
You end up seeing stuff.. 'you just gotta have'.. and the plastic can take a real hiding.

How far away is the Birdswood Motor Museum from Morgan?

Would it be too far to maybe include a visit to Hahndorf as well?

I guess there would be folks interested in some of the wineries that would be within easy reach

Birdwood and Hahndorf are very close to each other, it would be a bit out of the way about a 250 km trip there but the problem is that you will be going through the Barossa Valley which is great for wine tours.
I would suggest that you do the trip in the van and stay overnight in the Barossa then do Birdwood and Hahndorf the next day as the motor musuem and Hahndorf would take you a day to do as well.

It's nice to know you're aware of the group and the bookings are under control.
It also adds a nice personal touch when people ring and your local infomation will help.. I'm sure.

It's not for me to say (for all).. but I think it would be great to have a mention in the local paper.

I'm sure most people with Vintage Vans are only too happy to show them to anyone who is interested.
Others may wish to express their thoughts on that as well.

Yes, I meant Birdwood and Harndorf as a separate trip, not included with Burra.. That would make it too much distance to cover in one go

Hi Everyone.

Thanks very much for the contact and updates Lorraine. Sounds like Morgan has got more to offer than we first thought. Mind you 2 pubs and a beer around the campfire with a bunch of good friends is enough to keep a smile on everyones dial. Thanks for the generous offer of the use of the BBQ as well.

After the mayhem at Coledale i am sure that the budding movie stars amongst this lot will enjoy talking to the local media. ( No names mentioned here Cobber )
I would imagine the bush telegraph will be alive and well on the way over to Morgan and we are bound to get intercepted by interested people more than once.

Do i still need to ring the 1300 number and stick my name on one of the sites???
I thought when Dave block booked the 20 sites we wouldn't need to do anymore than turn up. I,m not fussy who i camp next to . so unless i am told otherwise ya's can include me as one of the twenty.

Jim.... great minds think alike . I have always wanted to have a look at the birdswood museum. I need kicking if i am as close as Morgan and dont make the effort to get there.. I might head over there and have a look while the rest of the revheads head for the big river rod run. about 250 Ks each way plus a day sniffing around the museum and antique joints is Ok with me.

Good thing you didn’t mention the names of the posers, J & L from Bulli, they might have thought you were jealous.

I reckon anybody going to Morgan will have to ring and put their name on a site, otherwise 40 people might turn up all thinking they have one of the twenty pre-booked sites.

Wife and I are going to tour Victoria and South Oz before and after Morgan, pulling “Driftwood” (the bed) behind our Magna.

i have just spoken to brendans mum [ lorraine ] and confirmed that the mix up with bookings was in the computer

she has [ bless her cotton socks ] sorted it out and we are back on the map and in business for the week after easter starting monday nite.

she also mentioned that the local paper, river news, wants to do an article on the vans if thats alright with everyone [ i stuck your hand up and said why not. sounded like a good idea at the time ]

the local tv station, WIN 31, also want our bodies [ van type that is ] and the local tourism organisation will get onto the site to offer tours of the area if interested.

seems they have a couple of museums around town that would be worth a bo- peep.looks like the great bend in the elbow run of 2006 is going to be bigger than ben hur.

the local RSL also have offered their clubrooms for a slab or two if we want to use it for a get together??

she also mentioned that anyone attending in a fj better hide it from her as she rather fancies them and could be swayed to pinch one or was that fancies the owners and will pinch them??? who knows with holden type people?? [ silly girl. can't see what she sees in that silly red lion thingy, myself being a blue oval type ]

as for booking your own site among the 20 she didn't say anything to me about that, but it's a great idea and that way we don't over book the place and take up any vacant sites. i will book for the wa mob and if everyone else does their own, we should ALL be on the same page.

if thats ok with everyone i'll leave it at that and look forward to seeing y'all at morgan for a bend of the elbow

:)hi, This is Lorraine again from Morgan Park. The Riverland News paper is very interested in doing an article on your vans and will be in touch with me at a later date. The local Tourism board will be in contact with you soon regarding things to do and see around here. They have more information than I do. Hope all your travelling will be fun and trouble free.

Another friend of mine is booked in to Morgan and is also going to Barmera Rod run. Here is a picture of there car and van. There will be alot of different sorts of cars and caravans to look at. I'm looking forward to the run and can't wait .

Here is some REALLY disturbing news .

Having sold "just Croozn" I thought i better get busy and clean out the cupboards before the new owner comes and collects it..
Whilst ratting through the "Top shelf" i came across
3/4 of a flagon of Jailbar Juice. I think i banished it to the cupboard after Coledale. It caused three heart attacks, two temporary blindnesses and 1 permanent insanity case on the saturday night ......So like me it has had plenty of time to "age and mature". The flagon might have but alas ... i havent ;D.

Now, i figure that seein' as though "The Alstonville Brewery" has shut down this batch has become a rare and valuable find which will be worth auctioning off at Morgan. Proceeds to go to the poo bah to help run the site.

We could stipulate one condition though. ....The winner has to share it with the rest of us that aren't on the wagon. Will and JBJ can sit back and watch us make a mess of ourselves while they are sipping on thier non alcoholic beverages.

The other alternative is i could just tip it into the landcrushers diesel tank and burn it up across the Hay Plains.

Money is an issue at the moment. Having just spent over $15,000 on old bikes, 1 trip to VIC, 1 trip to Esk. i have left myself with an empty money jar.

So... short of a lottery win i dont think i will be heading west this easter.
