Caravan and Camping Industries Association of SA Media Release, 15 November 2012 All ‘go’ for Adelaide’s Vintage and Classic Caravan Grand Parade on 22 February 2013 The inaugural National Vintage and Classic Caravan Grand Parade will be held in Adelaide on Friday 22 February 2013. The event will be a spectacular feature of the 2013 SA Caravan and Camping Show being presented at the Adelaide Showground, Wayville from 20 to 24 February. The Caravan and Camping Industries Association of SA (CCIASA) is planning to attract around 100 vintage and classic caravans onto the main arena of the showground as an extension of its flagship annual show. This muster of caravans from the pioneering days of the industry will be the first of its type associated with a mainstream caravan and camping show in Australia. CCIASA Executive Director, Stuart Livingstone, said as a result of many inquiries it had been decided to include classic caravans, defined as those built between 1970 and 1980, with vintage, or pre-1970, units. “The award-winning Adelaide Shores Caravan Park at West Beach will be the home base for registered participants in the Grand Parade, and we will have a welcome reception at the park on the evening of Thursday 21 February,” Stuart said. “Registered entrants in the Grand Parade will form a circular display on the central grassed arena of the showground from mid-morning on Friday. “Visitors to the SA Caravan and Camping Show on the Friday will be able to enjoy looking over the classic and vintage models, many of which will be towed by restored vehicles of the same era. “While vintage caravan enthusiasts restore their caravans for sheer enjoyment and camaraderie, they also play an important role in the preservation of the past in our industry and we are delighted to present what will be a memorable event.” To register in the Grand Parade go to www.vintagecaravangrandparade.com.au or call the CCIASA on (08) 8260 4488. Profiles on each registered entry are being progressively posted on the site along with a detailed program and other information. Grand Parade entrants will receive free entry to the SA Caravan and Camping Show on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The CCIASA is also developing a range of options for participants to enjoy some of Adelaide’s popular tourist attractions. The SA Caravan and Camping Show is expected to attract more than 40,000 visitors along with 250 exhibitors in the vast pavilions and outdoor areas of the showground. There will also be a dedicated tourism pavilion showcasing top tourist destinations in South Australia and beyond. Interview: Stuart Livingstone (08) 8260 4488

Hi Everyone It seems one of our media releases wasn't posted. For those of you who may not have seen this on the Vintage & Classic Caravan Grand Parade Website, please see the following regarding the inclusion of Classic Caravans in the parade. Classic Caravans (1970-1980) Are In!Caravan and Camping Industries Association of SA Media Release, 10 July 2012 Vintage and Classic Caravan Enthusiasts Lining up for a Unique Grand Parade in Adelaide Next Year Entries are rolling in for the inaugural National Vintage and Classic Caravan Grand Parade in Adelaide in early 2013. The event will be a spectacular feature of the South Australian Caravan, Camping and Outdoor Adventure Show from 20 to 24 February. The Caravan and Camping Industries Association of SA (CCIASA) is planning to attract more than 100 vintage and classic caravans onto the main arena of the Adelaide Showground at Wayville as an extension of its flagship annual show. This muster of caravans from the pioneering days of the industry will be the first of its type associated with a mainstream caravan and camping show in Australia. It recognises the growing interest and participation in old-style caravanning in this country and overseas. CCIASA Executive Director, Stuart Livingstone, said as a result of many inquiries it had been decided to include classic caravans, defined as those built between 1970 and 1980, with vintage, or pre-1970, units. “We are also delighted to announce that the award-winning Adelaide Shores Caravan Park at West Beach will be the home base for participants in the National Vintage and Classic Caravan Grand Parade,” Stuart said. “Registered entrants in the event can enjoy the outstanding facilities at Adelaide Shores with all classic and vintage caravans being together on grassed and powered sites at an exclusive individual rate of $30.00 per night, based on a minimum stay of two nights. “Our intention is for the caravans to travel together from the Adelaide Shores Caravan Park along Anzac Highway to the Adelaide Showgrounds before gathering on the central grass arena during the SA Caravan, Camping and Outdoor Adventure Show. “At this stage, the Grand Parade will be held on Friday 22 February. However ,this may change to the Saturday if negotiations are successful to accommodate expanded car parking for the extra visitors expected to be attracted by the event. “For updates on planning for the Grand Parade, people should visit the website www.vintagecaravangrandparade.com Profiles on each registered entry are being progressively posted on the site along with other information. “The CCIASA is also developing a range of options for participants in the Grand Parade to also enjoy many of the top tourist attractions around Adelaide and beyond, including our leading wine regions and the natural beauty of Kangaroo Island.” Earlier this year, CCIASA representatives attended the 2012 Vintage Caravan National in Cowra to promote the 2013 Grand Parade in Adelaide. “It was a wonderful event in Cowra that gave us a greater understanding of the passion that people share for these old caravans,” Stuart said. “While vintage caravan enthusiasts restore their caravans for sheer enjoyment and camaraderie, they also play an important role in the preservation of the past in our industry. “We aim to showcase these qualities at the Grand Parade as an event that will create an interesting new dimension to our flagship event in February. “At Cowra we met with organisers of the national event and discussed their requirements to ensure we meet the needs of vintage caravan enthusiasts at the Grand Parade. The response was excellent with some of the people we met offering to volunteer to assist us in the presentation of the Grand Parade.” Interview or further information: Stuart Livingstone (08) 8260 4488 Kind Regards Shani Oaten Promotions & Events Manager

Good morning everyone We are excited to announce that Adelaide Shores Caravan Park are offering a special rate for our Vintage & Classic Caravan Grand Parade participants. After a few weeks of scouting around and negotiating the best value for money venue, Adelaide Shores Caravan Park will be the home base for the 2013 National Vintage & Classic Caravan Grand Parade. Adelaide Shores are offering participants accommodation on a grassed powered site for a minimum of two nights at $30 per night. Full details of how to book are listed on our website: www.vintagecaravangrandparade.com.au/latest-news/book-your-accommodation-online-now!. Why did we select Adelaide Shores Caravan Park? The multiple State and National Tourism Award Winning Adelaide Shores is the perfect venue to host possibly more than 100 Vintage Caravans participating in the inaugural National Vintage Caravan Grand Parade to be held in Adelaide on Friday 22nd February 2013 at the Adelaide Showground. Adelaide Shores is a 135 hectare tourism and recreation reserve on Adelaide's West Beach. The precinct offers a range of facilities, with a mix of commercial and community services including: Accommodation; Golf; Boating; Coast Park; and Cafe and Dining Venues. What are some the main reasons we like Adelaide Shores Caravan Park as our home base? - Across the road are the Patawalonga par 72 public course and an Executive 60 par 60 public course. If Tennis is more your game, Adelaide shores has 4 public hard court tennis courts. - A 3 minute drive up the road is Harbour Town. Harbour Town not only offers high quality outlet stores but also offer a superb range of local services including supermarkets, health care, cafes and eateries, fresh food, homewares and outdoor products and much more. - A 4km walk along the beach and you are at Glenelg. Glenelg is a charming seaside resort set on the long sandy white shores of Holdfast Bay. Glenelg is the site of South Australia's original mainland settlement in 1836 and is a great Dining and Shopping Precinct. - Catch the famous Glenelg tram into the City of Adelaide and spend the day exploring or visit the Adelaide Zoo to see the Giant Panda exhibit. - The Beach! How could we forget the pristine West Beach, which Adelaide Shores Caravan Park is located, and the walking trails heading both North and South. - Bring your bikes and ride from the Henley Beach up the River Torrens Linear Trail into the city for a quick coffee in Rundle Street. If you’re feeling adventurous, keep following the trail into the Adelaide Hills and a well earned downhill journey home. - And, it is a relatively short easy drive to the Adelaide Showground where Grand Parade participants will setp up as part of the 2013 SA Caravan & Camping and Outdoor Adventure Show. - Drive to Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills and visit the The National Motor Museum The museum is an International centre for the collection, research, preservation, education and display of Australian road transport history. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and safe and happy New Year! Kind Regards Shani Oaten Promotions & Events Manager

Thanks Shani, I registered for the event yesterday and booked accommodation today. Not sure how many are going to this event but I do know a few are NOT letting us know they ARE going ...... The vintage caravan part of the thing will be a flop if people don't get behind it The CCIANSW were interested in the concept back in 2007 ( reply 3 onwards) but we just didn't get it together, I'd like to see it happen in SA this year Who's going ? Cobber.

G'day Jenno, We will probably be heading down that way around 10 days before the event to visit friends along the way, because we can't take too long returning home after the show. I just got a bit concerned when I booked accommodation because they said they only had five (5) other bookings......I would have expected more Anyway..... Hope to see you there with the van, the organisers will be disappointed if that particular van doesn't show up Cobber.

I am in the Olympic, so some of you Olympic owners come and join me. I plan to wander down from Canberra to Victoria and across to SA in early Feb. Cheers boblor

Hi Everyone
Happy New Year!
We currently have 33 vans registered - and hoping that this number will increase over the coming weeks. The more support we can get from vintage and classic caravan owners, the more successful this event will be!
Cobber - we only received the discount booking code for the accommodation a couple of weeks before Christmas, so hopefully people will be booking their accommodation soon!

It's nice to have an event in Adelaide.... Much as I like to travel I just don't have the time at the moment. Sigh. No time for pubs.... Sigh. Penny, Abby and I will be there. Tow Bar, standard muffler and new wiring went on yesterday. New tires in the next couple of days... I had one delamiate the other day and another one is on its way out, so they're all going. Plenty of tread but old rubber. It's going to be nice to tow Penny with my car and not having to get someone else to do it for me. Penny is out of the shed for a clean and spruce up. Our first little trip, we are looking forward to it!!

Arrived at Adelaide this arvo , did a thermostat outside Nrma hay yesterday and blew a radiator hose while gassing up at renmark servo today.... Luckily had a spare in the boot! While the event is looking to be a ripper, major frustration today with the big 4 caravan park we are staying at with the seemingly common issue that staff fail to grasp that the vans must be all blocked together which is what the saccia want and the tv people as well for their shots tomorrow. Bob freak, one of the local coordinators,Boblor and I have spent ages this arvo listening to assurances and platitudes from big 4 staff that we are all blocked up together yet the people that are already staying in the middle of where we are supposed to all be ... ( in their jaycos)!!! are very excited as their friends will be here tomorrow and will, as they are, be very excited to find themselves camping in the middle of all these lovely old vans!! ! No fault of theirs but laughable having listened to the tripe from the big 4 staff!!! Finally took matters into our own hands and as vvs' arrive we are setting up side by side together all blocked up close , ignoring the site nos they have given us , both sides of the road!! Guess we will face the music tomorrow but at least we are all together in a group as was supposed to be the plan!!! Stay tuned!! Hopefully not homeless tomorrow ;D. Jenno

The management who run this park are so good they came down this morning and made a family in a modern van at the end of our street move out to make space for vvs and now only a half hour later sent a nice old couple with a modern pop top down to a site in the middle of us all!

It's meant to be one of the best parks in SA.... wins awards too. I think I'm embarrassed to be South Australian at the moment if that's the best we have to offer the VVers from interstate. I wanted an unpowered site; Penny's not set up for 240v. I have to pay for power even though I can't use it, the unpowered sites are at the other end of the park... and the same price. $36 for one person. One of the most expensive nights in a caravan park I've ever had. Anyway must finish the last bit of packing.... ;D Vanessa

Hi Everyone I've had such a lovely time meeting everyone at the function last night and today at the Showground. It's been great to put faces to names as I've been speaking to many of you for months now!! We are extremely disappointed that you have had such a negative experience at the Park yesterday - even more so since some of the participants have chosen to go home rather than staying at the Park. We do hope that you have otherwise enjoyed your experience with us as part of the Vintage & Classic Caravan Grand Parade. If we do hold this event in the future, we may look for a new 'home base', possibly even one that allows pets as I know some people weren't able to attend for this reason. Thank you again everyone for being involved and making this such a wonderful event!
