Headed north to Warwick................




then east to Killarney...................







11kms further east from Killarney, the spectacular waterfalls on the upper Condamine River..............

Queen Mary Falls (formerly and correctly named Upper Dagg's Falls before some beaurocrat decided recognition of a pommy queen took precedence over the Irish settlers of the district )...............







Caravan park at the fall's is highly recommended...............





Had to attend to some professional grafitti ........

I do wish to point out... for someone on the road.. that pair of green jocks looked as tho they coulda been worn for another coupla days before you had ta change em.. ;D ;D

Ok, back to the travels...........this is roughly where we were when the "serious rain event" hit the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast and Northern NSW........



Travelled to Crows Nest and then down the Mountain to Esk, west of Lake Wivenhoe and Somerset Dam (which overflowed for the first time in 7 years)................



The rain cometh.....................





The rains came........




and went.................




and came again when we moved on to join the SE Qld'ers at Neurum Creek................(passing through Toogoolawah and spotting the local weatherboard picture theatre whick looks like it might still be used)................


and the rains came and went and came and went...........

Left Neurum Creek, headed into Woodford and then back towards Kingaroy through Kilcoy......had to take a photo of this, even if it is a Landcruiser (with a F*%d, funnily enough, on a trailer .........



Through Kingaroy and on to Wandai.............this has got to be part of Australia's banking history restored.....Commercial Bank of Australia building...........

It's all happening in Mt Morgan.... ..............pretty hard to miss this in the front of the caravan park.............

According to the owner (of the caravan park and the Quest), this van has been sold but not picked up.....anyone we know?

He also had a collection of old motor bikes in various stages of restoration and is hoping to open a museum (similar to Nabiac)........these might interest you Reddo (even if it is american iron)...........





The "King's Tour" finally caught up with us ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D...........

Many moons ago when I was a courier driver,one of the other drivers lived done Sth of Adelaide (willunga) had a drive way about 1klm long and used to tow his bin to the gate like that ,only this day he had hooked it on the night B4 ,got up late and forgot it was there,got all the way to Darlington B4 someone told him.This was still at around 6am. The bins wheels were all but gone by then.

Left Rockhampton and headed north into new territory towards Mackay.

Whilst a few of you went to Wintersun on the Gold Coast over the June long weekend, some of us had the real wintersun at Carmila Beach, just south of Mackay..................









Who says you need 4wd to see Oz ..................

I have to respond to your travelogue, a lot of those places you have visited bring back memories of my young days , from Gympie to Bundy, around to Kingaroy, all that area to Brissy & back up the coast building, spent 20 years there, so really appreciate your photos.

I dont think there would be too many who wouldnt like to be gadding about freely like you 2 are, some of us have reasons why we cant have that freedom, but sure can enjoy your story & places you have been .

Thanks for the positive comments guys and dolls.........I often wonder if this thread isn't a bit like the old "slide show" evenings that were the rage in the '60's and boring as bat-poo .......s'pose the difference is, you don't have to log onto this thread if you don't want to...........

Moving on..........this time to Mackay...........a fairly modern city with not much in the way of older buildings like Rocky........







Went out to the marina at North Mackay..........fairly speccy homes and boats here.........











Spotted this on way back to city at second-hand shop...........





Stayed just north of Mackay at beach suburb called Bucasia................











June 10.........
Headed towards Proserpine..............Sutcac had advised us that, like the NSW coast, ya gotta go off the main highway to get to a lot of the beachside places in Qld..........so, turned off to Seaforth........









Camped just around corner from Seaforth at Hallidays Point.......great caravan park, amenities a bit ordinary but workable.....great spot for a vintage van get-together....campfires & dogs permitted, 100m walk to beach......











A bit of networking doesn't go astray ;D ;D ;D.........

There is a really nice beach in that general area
The turnoff is on the road to Airlie beach
It's called Dingo Beach
Not sure if it is still a dirt road or not....
But a really nice spot

Turn off the Bruce Highway a couple of kms north of Proserpine for Airlie Beach & Shute Harbour..........gateway to the Whitsunday group of islands.................

Day trip to Dingo Beach and Hydeaway Bay, just north of Airlie..................4kms gravel stretch in the middle of a sealed road makes no sense at all
