Hi People, I have just draged home my new sunliner , as you see it needs lots of work. I have read there is a chassis number on these vans and am wondering if it is on the early models too? The front of the van has a centre window that opens out but I am not sure if it is original John

Hello John ( to quote Kevin bloody Wilson).... Your sunliner is similar to 2 others in my club in Newcastle, but individual in itself as you will find that no 2 Sunliners are the same....looks like you have got a prettywell complete van, interior similar to "Spyders "van (on this site)
Re identifying your van....if you look on the chassis about 20cm back from the coupling you should find some numbers (they could also be on the flat plate where the coupling bolts on) the numbers should give you a date of manufacture and will read YYMM followed by a number.......it should be a 59 to 61 model. It is an early one as there are no"spears" on it. Your windows are original as is the interior. I own 3 Sunliners. Regards Peter aka Humpty

Thank you Humpty2 for that info, I hav'nt got back to the van to look for the numbers but am worried that someone has welded the jockey wheel bracket over the number. I changed wheels and tyres when I picked up the van as it's first trip in a lot of years was to be 50 klms. I noticed the left side suspension arm had a fair bit of wear, can the bushings be replaced? is there a readily available parts that can be adapted to fit? I keep trying to register but it tells me that the administrator will approve, but now I can't use "mk1" now I have 3 names waiting for approval.... How long does this normally take? Regards John

I will assume by mentioning the wear on the suspension arm, that you have tha independent suspension on your van......will check for more info if this is the case (one of our club members has recently done one up!).

Yes it has a type of independant suspension with coil over shock setup. It look like the whole suspension assembly will unbolt from the chassis Is the van supported only by the coil spring? Don't all the Sunliners have this type of suspension? I will need to source bushings etc and maybe other parts like shocks ;D Regards John

No, they dont all have this suspension......most early ones have it , then cost (and reliability) got in the way. Some were converted to conventional leaf springs by the owners too...see what I can find out for you re where to get some bits
