As they say, this VC collection is very catching. After much cajoling, negotiating and waiting, I can now confirm that this van is now mine. Off to Melbourne again on Saturday to pick her up Cheers Ray ;D ;D ;D

Hey Ray, I love the look of the van - raised roof section and bay type windows - nice and big for those extended weekends. I remember it being on ebay. well done in getting it! All you have to do is change the poo colour to something a bit more attractive! - maybe purple?
regards envious earlee.

Onya Ray. You kept that one pretty quiet didntya!!!!
it never ceases to amaze me!!! The number of styles and variations of colour shapes and internal layouts that where marketed in the caravan world between 1940 and 1970.
It looks great. Colours are a personal thing. I spose it all depends on what you are gunna tow it behind. if it matches the tow car then i reckon you are better off leaving it original ( says he who changed his van from slate grey to cream, green and grey).
Hope all goes well with the tow home from VIC. Would love to see it in "The flesh" even if i have to come out to the expressway or maybe if you call at Humpty 2's place i can catch up with you there. I am only 20 mins from Petes Place.

Hey Reddo Looks like I'm going home via Alstonville, so will be on the freeway past Newcastle at some stage. Email me with some contact details and I will let you know when I'm coming past and perhaps organise a meeting. At this rate, I will never get home Ray

I don't suppose anyone has any idea what this van was called. The lantern roof is like the early Eccles vans, but apart from that There doesn't seem to be much info on them. Where are our English friends!!! Maybe there is some other source over there. Cheers Ray

Ray, I am on the Newcastle end of the Sydney/Newcastle Freeway and very easy to find....If you go via the New England H/way you have to go past my place.......If you go via the Pacific, I am 5 minutes off your route. As with Reddo, would love to see that van!!!! Humpty2, aka Humpty dumpty, aka Peter.

Hi Ray, any particular reasons for the decision, was it the van or you just found something better? Would be interested to find out as I had wanted to look at the van as well Matt

G'day all I know what Ray has on his towball on its way north. So does Humpty . We Checked "it" out Sunday , but we are sworn to secrecy. We will let Ray make the big announcement when he gets home. If you guessed "grease" on the towball then you are partly right. He, he, he.
Jailbar .... Keep your fingers off the keyboard after Ray has left your place.... OK

Well, I've finally made it back to the Sunshine State. No wonder all you Southerners invade us during the winter months. Minus 3 and minus 5 degrees greeted me some mornings in Seymour and Goulburn. So, when is a caravan park not a caravan park? When it is actually a caravan built by Caravan Park Ltd (later known as Carapark) After the initial disappointment of the Melbourne Van, My host Werner, a one-eyed Propert fan (you guys thought I was bad) suggested I look in the Melbourne Trading post, just in case there is something interesting there. Not holding out much hope, I did, and found an ad for a 1947 Collector's caravan. Of course it was in Ballarat. I rang the owner, and, although skeptical, decided to go that further 100km and see this van the next day. I drove through sleet and snow (literally) and ended up at the place while it was still snowing!!! When he finally got me into his shed, I was greeted by an amazing site. There was a classic car collection, the envy of perhaps even John Laws (well, maybe not him, but certainly us vintage vanners), and in amongst these cars, taking pride of place was: I could not believe it - even the inside was original (except for the missing icebox and the horrible bar fridge in its place: I couldn't gather his asking price quickly enough, gave himj the money, filled out the transfer forms (yes it was still registered) hooked it up and went, in case he changed his mind. That night I camped in the nearest caravan park in my caravan park van enjoying my new home. Next morning, it's off home with my newfound prize: The van is number 14 of series 650 of the "Superb" model range. It is 13ft 6inches long, 6ft 4inches wide, and weighs 16.5 cwt (about 750-800kg) It is built of all steel construction, except the window frames, which are wood. Everything works on it. It even has over-ride brakes and tows like a dream. So I guess good things can follow disappointments. It was also really great to catch up with the likes of Reddo, Humpty and Jailbar as well as your respective spouses, and put faces to those well-known names. thank you all for making me feel so welcome. Yes Jailbar, I am still getting my wrist exercise!!! Cheers Ray ;D ;D ;D

G'day Ray. Thanks for letting us see this fabulous van in the flesh... Missus still has the offer of double if your wife doesn't like it!!!!! she loves it. This is a van which is even better than the photos.....you gunna show the drawers and the fold out bins and the plate cupboard? . One day if I keep looking I might find a pot of gold like that beauty..running out of superlatives so I will finish now.

G'Day Ray
Glad to here you made it home OK. You have no idea how hard it was for us three "southerners" to keep our mouths shut about your "caravan park" .
Let us know when you lot up north get a "North coast get together" organised. Trishas mum lives at Banora Point and I could use a visit to her mums place as an excuse to include a weekend with our northern van nuts.
Just make it a non school holiday weekend .
Once again congatulations on the new addition to the family. You have certainly earnt it.
Reddo - One jealous bastard
