Greetings from Northern NSW! ;D I recently purchased a caravan. Isn't she beautiful! It was built in 1957. My plan is to restore it to its original splendour. whilst stripping the paint i uncovered the word 'Airstream', and a logo. If anybody knows anything about wooden Airstream caravans, it would be greatly appreciated if you could give me any info. here are some more photos of the van. Dont worry bout the colours scheme as it was owned by the red cross for some time. Regards, Russell

Thanks for the replies. Its not quite in as good condition as it looks, the corner mold has been leaking water in some areas. Sorry Ray but the red laminex is staying. Russell

G'day Russell and welcome to the Vintage van site Veeerrrrryyyy Nice van mate. interior looks great. I thought "Airstream" only made those flash looking aluminium bodied vans that look like the fuaslage from a plane or a shiney milk truck. Alstonville Eh? You would have to know Dennis Watts alias Jailbar Juice he is a member of this group has a sunliner van as well as a very noticeable dodge ute hot rod. Also has a EH Holden . lives in Alstonville. Or could it be that you are not really a "Russell" but actually Dennis signing up under an another "Alias" If you are not Dennis , then i apologise Russell and once again that is a really nice old van ..... love the portholes. G'Day Russell "fixvans" .... Alstonville Caravan Repairs. It all makes sense now. Warning: Beware the jailbar Juice. Dennis is a really great bloke. Ok but keep naked flames away and stay well clear of his home brew hooch. I drank a flagon of the stuff and suffered temporary blindness for a week. Also almost ended up in jail after a Jailbar juice induced "altercation" with next door neighbour over three barking rottweilers. Been looking at the photos of your airstream and the axle appears to be set well back. I would imagine it has a fairly hefty towball weight??? Also has outside light fitting and there was some discussion a while back as to when these where first fitted to the older vans. I might be wrong but mid to late 60's was about the era. Keep us posted on the resto progress . Good Luck Reddo - Loves them portholes.

Here is an update of my work in progress, these photos were takin a couple of months ago. it is surprising how a small job can blow out to such a major restoration. i thought the van just needed a sand and a paint, but i was wrong!! 6 layers of paint, wood rot, hours and hours and hours of sanding later, we are almost there. i should be finnished in about 4 weeks. will post update photos soon. Hi Russel. Its funny how a simple sand and paint job can turn into a mamoth task, The photos remind me of my van when I set about giving it a coat of paint about 10 years ago. Oh well Its all down hill from now on.
Cheers. Trodler.

G'day Russell, GROUSE van. Looking through the photos I noticed the little stove that is in the van. They are absolutely brilliant! I bought one in garage sale, fitted out for camping in its own box, that when I saw one in the Castlemaine tip, in their selling area, Well now I have two. They are great. Don't get rid of it. Regards Andrew.
