if you've got a few weeks to spare Will, use a heat gun .....I stripped 3 layers of old leaded paint off my"48 Holiday Home" with a heat gun .....it took a 100 plus hours, but was great fun ;D ;D........NOT !!!

Hi all
ZI tried the heat gun and the aluminuim warped. So then I spent a fortune on paint stripper. What worked the best though was a razor blade scraper. The little cheap ones then a more sturdy red plastic one for about $10. The paint came right off down to the undercoat.

WOOHOO! That is one beautiful car. I have always had a soft spot for english vehicles and it was all I could do not to buy a very nice morris major that was on the side of the road a few weeks ago. Personally I would risk divorce over that car. Scoot

Iwill give it one last try to post a photo I cut this out to see what the combination would look like the 1946 Austin16 is almost identical to a Ford Pilot the boot has no wheel impression it and of course no flathead V8 But a ford pilot fully restored is around $35.000 Aussie cost me $7000.00 dollars fully restored

hay jailbarjuice ....leave the "stockers" alone there's no better nostalgia trip than cruisin the highway in a car that's just way it was meant to be .......it makes you appreciate what grandad & grandma suffered to get from A to B ;D ;D ........ I recently purchased a 39 Chev, as stock as a rock, its got a 216ci straight six coupled to a 3 on the floor crash box ..... and its a rippa !!! The gear lever slops all over the place (selecting gears is bit of a guessing game)and its as slow getting up to cruising speed as the second coming of ....... (4.2 rear drive)......and stopping, did somebody say stop ...... But its .. as torquey as .......and will be used to tow my 1940's vans. Ditzy & I piss ourselves laughing every time we drive it. But we also have an Aussie muscle car in the shed for when we want a serious blast. Will, the Austin looks great, its got that classic designed 30's shape, similar to my 39 Chev. You're bit of a worry though buying all these cars & vans .....you're reaching "problem" status ;D ;D "no flames" Mark

Rob, I'll show you mine if you show me yours ;D ;D ;D Seriously Rob, you say your sloper stops as good as your FC .....I hope your FC doesn't have standard brakes ......they are the pits My 39 Chev with standard brakes actually stops better than my FC.....but then, what doesn't stop better than a FC Contary to what I say above, the ole 39 actually drives really well ..... a great old cruiser.....but is definately from a different era of motoring.

Jailbar. The Chev is by no means an "Everyday" car. You ain't got a chance of convincing me to bung anymore braking power into that. As for my old Holdens. Since I have been driving (Probably only 20years or so), the only "New" car I have had, is the new cars I get for my wife. I have owned 2 x HR's, 4 FC's, 3 FB's, an HG Belmont, an XK Falcon, an HQ GTS 350 coupe & all of them had stock brakes, except the slight upgrade on the latest FC Wagon. Have a look at my website: photobucket.com/albums/v157/4hammers/ I have NEVER had an accident in any of them, apart from the Monaro. Why the Munro. Hot 350, pushing it a little too hard & bang, into the back of a mates car. Not much at all, cracked a headlight & bent the nose cone very mildy, but that was all. Why no accidents in the others? Because I drive the cars as the were meant to be driven. Not pushing them. I assume you have a heap done to your "Jailbar" in the way of brakes, but honestly, it is a must when you have a supercharged 460! The brakes on all my cars a very well maintained. They all stop very well, when I need to. As for the van, that puppy is going to get the whole hog when it comes to stopping. I have already checked out the options available & the "Electric Braking systems" seem the way to go. The I will stop!! Maybe the brakes aren't what needs rebuilding?? Could be your Knees that need the work "Jailbar" ;D Here is a photo of a very similar car. Same year, same condition, same colour, but mine is the "Master Deluxe". Has more chrome. Rob J

Hi Will. VERY nice little Porche. I also love the Austin. Man, that looks comfy! I could climb in there right now & go for spin. Hi Jailbar. No, I got your point & know what you are getting at. That's cool. Please don't think I was having a go, just telling it how I see it. This IS a fun forum & the crack about the knees was a joke. Hope you didn't take it the wrong way . I love your cars & you obviously know what you are talking about. Regards, Rob J

Thanks for your feedback on brakes jailbarjuice, I'll take that on board for when I do my Chev/caravan project.
Rob .....I'll post some pics of my Chev under the thread "Art Deco Chev". We should leave this thread for Will's project.

top humour Reddo ......well said ...as always !! Funny thing happened today on the way back from the Brunswick run .....Ditz and I and others stopped at a junk shop in a place called Pinjarra, and after a perusal of the junk shop, decided to head down the street a coupla blocks to a well known Bakery ......anyway, after a pie, a sausage roll, a vanilla slice and a jam donut, I was struggling to walk back to the carpark ....when hey ......I saw a tram ......can you believe that ....a friggin tram in the main street of Pinjarra ...... But, wouldn't ya know it, turned out that what I thought was a tram, and could give me a lift, was in fact a caravan .....owned by a little short bloke with a funny big smile and a wearing a beanie ......and towed by an old black, v8 truck. Oh well, since I did not have the right change, it was for the best....... dribble dribble

Hey Mark and Will Disclaimer: Warning not vintage van related. Only of interest to TRAM AND PASTRY COOKING BUFFS. ;D We have two famous trams here in Newcastle. One is " Stationary" if you will pardon the pun. it is known as "Harrys Cafe' De wheels" and is set up on the Newcastle harbour foreshore. specialises in Pies with mashed potatoes and peas as a floater . a must eat for all pastery addicts like Mark. The other "tram" is a tram body mounted on what looks like an old school bus chassis. it does a lap around Newy visiting all the beaches and historical sites. Like most other Newcastleites i have never been on it for a tour but i often see it loaded up with people with unusual shaped eyes Cheers Reddo - Alias the Trevs Tram conductor. Where's that bloody layabout driver . Probably having a week off on compo after straining himself painting.
