Just wondering how many members have an late model van as well as a vintage, some of the vintage were not exactly the most cosy of vans to have a trip around australia in, so is the vintage only for special trips and shows. Just curious. Maurice {Bubbles}

Hi Maurice I replied to your note at lunchtime today, but now notice it didn't post to the site. Guess it's flying around cyberspace somewhere.!!!! We travelled 7,700km in the Propert during our holidays recently, with no real inconvenience. The only compalint from "she who must be... ", was that the seating was a bit uncomfortable, because of the straight back on them, and no cushions. We also have a 16ft 2001 Regal poptop van which we bought last year, but haven't used. We are now selling the Regal and with the money tied up in it, we will probably buy 40 VC's and travel in a different van each week for 40 weeks and do the gardens etc the other 12!!!! ;D ;D ;D Seriously though, we will sell the Regal and restore the Chesney (14ft) which we have bought. By the time I have finished with it, it will be as comfortable as any new van. The Chesney will probably be used for longer trips, (hopefull around Oz one day) while the Propert will be used for shorter ones. Although the way petrol prices are going, it may be the other way around. In short, what I am saying is that our vans will be treated as our pride and joy, but will also be functional, and not just be used for display. We also found with the Propert that you meet more people than you otherwise would, and I think that happens to any VCer. After all, who wants to talk to someone who has just another factory produced van? A VCer has added their own personal touch to their van, and quite obviously has put a lot of work into it. Which makes us a breed apart, and proudly so!!!! Regards Ray

Our previous travelling had been with a bushwalking tent, so being on the road with a plywood van is sheer luxury!

We recently sold our '90 Coromal 17 ft, but when I do the rounders again I don't think it will be in a Sunliner.....or anything smaller. 16 ft would be the minimum size with a walkround bed, to make life easy for Mrs"humpty Dumpty". I am onto a 16ft Carapark that may just fit the bill, and I will pull it with my recently aquired EH premier wagon ex Reddo!! or the XP Fairmont Stn Wagon an equally grand car! The VCs attract an enormous amount of attention, on a recent trip with 3 Sunliners and an Olympic we had people and Media talking to us nonstop....It almost became a problem, but I am now used to being the centre of attention!!!!!!

Hi everyone, We have both been raised in caravaning families. ;D ;D In relation to our 1950's ply van, Lyn and her family stayed in it regularly when she was very young at her uncles place. He built the van. When we first caravaned as a couple we used to borrow the inlaws :Dearly 80's Viscount van until this was sold. We bought the old van in 1995. The caravan has travelled around Australia at least twice in early years. We use the van for our annual holiday, travelling to shows and Festivals and to display at shows. Our 11 year old is addicted and wants to buy every old van he sees. Last year we had to decide to renovate the old van or buy a new. After several caravan shows and yards we decided on renovating the devil we know. The van layout is so much better than the new vans and suits our needs. We are cruising to Adelaide via Great Ocean Road in September 2005 from Wollongong with the van behind the 57 Chev. We will also have a couple Chevs and Holdens travelling with us. We look forward to meeting any other enthusiasts along the way, please let us know if you are enroute. Stay with the old and socialise more, make your vans comfortable to enjoy. ;D ;D Tickos

Yeah .....I agree on that one Tickos .......
There's no modern caravan in my carport.
The lastest caravan I have owned was a 16' 1978 Millard ......I towed it twice accross Australia, once to Bathurst in 1996, and again in 1998 to GMH's 50th anniversary celebrations in Melbourne ....I towed it with a 1970 Holden HT panel van.
"Joker2", the van I now tow behind my FC is about as comfortable as you can get, its a lovely old van, very comfortable & well laid out. I have no desire to own a modern van.
