Hi all just bought a viscount ambassador off ebay happens to be chassis number e6417 which there is a photo of in your history section I bought it off a bloke in port Macquarie and towed it home to Sydney without any dramas im going to do it up as I want to do some travelling and camping in it ive put some led tail lights on it and have run into dramas as the caravan wirering harness wires are all white wondering if this is from factory or somebodys handy work if anyone knows weather its factory or not please let me know as ive also found that this van has a 12volt system once again with white wires everywhere and was thinking if caravans back in the 60s had a 12volt system or once again the handy work of someone with a lot of white wire at his disposal ive decided to rewire the tail lights with proper trailer wire and I would also like to know where you guys got the photo of my van from and if anyone knows any history on it all help would be greatly appreciated as this is my first van and im only a young bloke starting out Thankyou

Hi Dave Can't help you with the wiring question - but it does sound a bit like someone had an excess of spare white wire doesn't it! Someone will be along soon who'll know the answer, though, so check back often. Welcome to the world of vanning, meantime. it's tremendous fun getting around in an old van!

We've come across quite a few old vans that have been wired throughout with all white wiring Seems to have been installed from new. Early Olympics and Viscounts that we have had over the years. Cheers Bob and Jacqui ;D ;D ;D

G'day Dave79au,... Dave for short ? Al ( franklin1)will be along soon to answer some of your questions regarding the van in DHL but in the mean time have a look at this thread posted just a few days ago to get good advice from Rattles on identifying the wires, which is no doubt how whoever built the vans did it. By the way..... If you look at the "Down History Lane Guide lines" at the top of the board home page it would indicate that this thread of your's would be better placed in the "Technical" section.... maybe Cobber.

G'Day dave79au
I also have Viscount Ambassador 1968, E7345 and yes, all wiring 12v/240v is white. A real pain when you are trying to sort problems.
Obviously a cost cutting measure by the factory. Boss probably said you can use any colour you like, as long as its white.

Thank you for your replies yes it is Dave for short and I've decided would be easier with proper trailer wire for the tail lights the only things that's missing in the van is the gas line ,stove ,fridge ,cushions but these are easily replaced
