Here's some pics of a "Don" caravan I picked up about
18 months ago in Kelmscott Perth.
I today visited it's place of storage, unwrapped it & took some pics .
Its a late forties model in very sound & original condition needing some work , but well worth restoring.
Two window frames, the door & the hatch need rebuiilding, and there is some wood rot at the very bottom edge of some of the external ply where the beading is (refer pics). The water has got between the outter ply & the decorative timerwook, resulting in woodrot, similar to rust in a car between the body & chrome mouldings.
Three of the original leadlight windows are in good nick, but two will need replacing.
It measures 14'6" by 6' 4"
It has its original two "Don" badges on both the front & rear.
It has its original wheels & hubs caps .....the wheels are original 16" rims with massive 16 x 7.5 light truck tyres.
Unlike Gentleman Jim's Don, it has its original drawbar with the towball permanently attached to the drawbar, the ball is lowered into the car's tow bar and secured by a locknut.
The jockey wheel is also original and came with its original turn handle.
The original ID plate
The infamous Don caravan "chuck bowl" ;D that folds out of the wardrobe door.
Nice yellow & cream paint
The van retains many of its internal features including a blind that rolls accross the roof hatch to block the sunlight.
Unfortunately its ice chest & forcefed water tank are missing.
Refer to the section "Don Brochure" under the memorabilia section of this forum for full details on the "Don" caravans.
