From Reddo... Hello mark Photos as promised. Looks a bit like Cobbers van. I wouldn't mind adding the southern cross like Cobbers or the Eureka flag to the side of it. Can anyone identify the make and model?. brother is a signwriter and if I can get the original logo i will con him into painting it on for me. Paid $500. Cant believe how tidy it is inside . i have a copper fire extinguisher, original brass coca cola bottle opener that attaches to the cupboard with two screws, a couple of old pump style fly sprayers, etc which will be quite at home inside. Even three ducks for the wall but i will have to screw 'em on so they don't "crash land" while we are towing the van. Heading off this weekend to a Vintage Motorbike Rally at Hat Head NSW. I will make a start on things like wheel bearings and wiring sometime in between getting the Holden to the panel beaters for repairs next week. Will keep ya posted on the progress. Catch ya later Reddo

Thanks for posting the pix Mark.
We have just had about an inch of rain over night. i shot out this morning to check on the "flood damage" in the van. Bone dry in all the top cupboards and not a sign of a leak anywhere. i suppose that is one big plus about not having any internal lining . you can track down leaks (if any) and pin point where the problem is .
Regards Reddo

G,Day Trev
Yeah i thought about backing the wagon up to the baked bean when taking the pix. Will do this weekend. The front bar is off caus Eh radiator overflow tubes had a habit of weeing on the sub frame . end result is they rust out over the years. Hopefully the mate will get it plated up this weekend. Only have to stick some new 185 radials on her and head for an inspection station. Once thats out the way. I will turn my attention to the little grey box on wheels down the back yard.
Stay tuned to this station!!!! Thanks for whacking the pichas up Mark.

The time has come. i have sat back long enough. i spent last weekend stripping, sanding, plugging, sealing ,masking, swearing, nailing, drinking, Screwing ( not that sort of screwing you sickos ;D) cursing and eventually spraying the van with a base coat. Once i seen the tri colours on the old van at Bainsdale I just Knew i would have do go with a few heritage colours. Even if my van is late 50's early 60's i still like the look of a few different colours on these old girls. I brought the lights and number plate bracket to work and sandblasted and painted them with galmet silver . they have come up like new. I have a nickel plating kit i use afair bit for bolts and brackets on my bikes but i figure a duller finish would be a better look plus if i plate them i have to keep em polished . We took the alloy strips off from above the doors and windows and buffed and polished them to get the scale off. They will go back on with new stainless self tappers and a good bead of silastic . . I took a few shots of the van when it was 'Naked" and I would love to forward them to someone to put up on the forum ( still haven't sorted that bucket thingy out yet) but the mail administrator here at work has put a tight grip on outgoing emails and especially those with attachments. However , not one to be downtrodden easily i will persist and make sure that i take a few shots this weekend while the rude little van is putting some clothes on. We have come up with a name for it , but like everyone else we have decided to hold off the "Press Release" and swim suit session until at least the outside is completed. I think everyone enjoys the suspense of following a resto and waiting on the "Christening" Now lets see......Esky , check ...... Beer, check . Ice, check . Stubby holder.... yep, looks like i am all ready to go.... PAINT..... I am gunna need paint . BRUSH... i am gunna need a brush . ooooooooooooo Bugger!!! Geez I dont know about this painting bullshit it's gunna cut into my drinkin' time Stay tuned for a progress report early next week. i start Holidays on Australia Day and plan on giving the inside a good scrub down with sugar soap. Then I will call in the "Inspector /she who must be obeyed" to make a decision on a full repaint or not. Might even get to rewiring the 12v system and then shouting the old girl a couple of those new fangle bakerlite tumbler style 240volt outlets. Did I say Holidays Reddo from "The far side"

Finally Thanks for putting up the pix Mark. i have sent a second installment of pixs over to you. hope they make it without getting zapped by works mail administrator. I have a third lot of pix in the camera of the inside painted. The bro has done the signwriting/naming up near the door and across the back below the window. plus i took few shots of the EH backed up to the van. I have managed to fit the towbar and just need to wire up the trailer plug. the car passed inspection last week and I am scraping the $$$ together for the rego. Hope get the van to a weighbridge shortly. Then from there on to an inspection station. Slowly , slowly, its all coming together. Easter caravanning........can't wait, can't wait, can't wait How many sleeps now dad. Can't wait....Can't wai......can't wa... ....Can't........ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Goodnight Reddo

OOOOOOO i got a post from "The Great one". Sounds like you might have got the other batch of pix I sent ya . Thats the only way you would know what the inside looks like now that it is painted. If so ... the secret is out once the pix hit the album everyone will be aware of the christening/naming and the mural I painted on the side and back.. Inside will remain pretty much standard for now. Reddo Lemme know if photos didn't make it to ya... i will try again.

G'Day Everybloody Thanks for the kind words. We are happy with the end result . I am now scrounging for a couple of round power points, round tumbler switches and wooden mounting blocks to install a bit of that new fangle 240 volt stuff for those rare occassions that I decide to go 5 star vannin'. Still trying to shake off the enamel paint fumes inside. I installed a battery in the space under the wardrobe . This is handy when you want to unhook the van and still have lights to party under. The two small cupboard mounted lights are only 6 watts and create a very sexy atmosphere at night..... Bloody pity the missus don't see it that way. Luckily the lights also help me find my way to the ice chest so I can get blotto when I get a "Knock Back"..... ;D ;D ;D You have got no idea how much trouble i had getting these pix over to Mark. The resto took less time than the email posting. the "Gestapo " Here at work have no appreciation of our hobby and therefore zap any attachments. I am seriuosly gunna have to sit down and learn how to use "Photo Buggerit" as well as get the interthingy hooked up on my home 'puter. I "wing Nut" regoed "Just Croozn" last weekend ( took the plate and label off the bike club trailer) and hooked up the van complete with towing hitch to the now registered EH. The Holden towed it no trouble but I soon found out I am gunna have to get some external mirrors on the car. I have ordered two of the old style 4" mirrors with curved bracket that clamp to the door tops just above the quarter windows. Once I get them i will get the fitters here at work to machine up some 1/2" stainless round bar extensions about 3" long so that i can fit the extensions when ever I tow the van and they will be easily removed to restore the original look when not towing. should look a period mod i hope. The old Hydromatic slushbox seemed to handle the empty van so we are planning a trip towing Just Croozn to the national motorcycle museum swap meet in March. It is about 2 hours drive north of Newcastle and reasonable easy going. In the mean time I betta do sumfin about proper rego and welding the fillets to the gooseneck to strengthen that department. Set a trap and catch yas later Reddo

Hey Mark and young Ditzy I spose it is all back the front now that I have finished the van. But here is a coupla pichas of Just Croozn during resto on the outside. It was almost gunna be called "Blue Roo" but it sounded a bit too much like "Blue Loo". We painted the whole thing blue and said "YUK" . It was about that stage when the old van from Bairnsdale hit the scene and that is where I drew inspiration for the "Just Croozn" colour scheme. Ended up the blue made a good under coat. I really have enjoyed "Refurbishing" the old van. I will never class it as a full resto because all i did was clean, repair ,seal, renail ,screw and paint it. It is a change to work on something that doesn't have a motor. And as everyone who has their van on the road has said, you can't just pull up somewhere and not be approached by someone wanting to have a look in side and asking 500 questions. We only done about 40k the other day and got heaps of thumbs up, might be because the roo on the back has a thumb up. Looking forward to getting away and enjoying "The fruits of our labour" .. There will always be something to add on or fiddle with. Annexe would be nice. i have a mate who has a canopy off a 40ft yacht, it is similar to the canopys you see on runabouts that fold down against the top of the windscreen. it consists of two arch bars about 9ft across made of stainless and aluminium.Just the right length and shape to fit about half way up the side of the van with the canvas/vinyl attaching to the existing press studs for the old annexe.as they would across the top of the windscreen on the boat.. When dropped open it would give a annexe roof of abot 6ft. The beauty of this would be that you would not have any annexe poles. All the would be required is a rope and tent peg at either end to stop the thing wanting to fold back up against the side of the van in the wind... How does that sound....... Probably clear as mud, eh? I will work on him and see weather i can get the asking price down from $45. it currently does not have any canvas, Just the bars. There is probably that much worth of scrap alloy and stainless. will get a photo to you once i talk him down to $20....he,he,he Cheers Reddo This is the text that accompanied the Photos that have confuse me so much ( please refer to Reddo Comp under General).............
