Hi everyone - I need help for someone who has bought a Newlands van and wants to find out some info on it.
Here's the email I received:
Hello to all at Caravan World, we are occasional readers of your magazine ( when we are planning a trip we read every word) and really loved your article on The Golden Oldie. Since reading it I have been looking up Vintage Caravans on the Internet, some of them are just amazing- so I thought you may be able to help me with a query. We have just bought a 'Newlands Deluxe' 11 ft. van that is sadly in need of lots of T.L.C- (my husband can hardly wait to get started on it) I would like to find out where this brand of 'van was built, and when. we don't have an actual year of manufacture, but previous owner thought it was about 1986- they bought it second hand- but I can't find anything on Google or anywhere. It stall has a Dealers Sticker on it & I have checked that location and the place no longer exists. I hope you might have someone on staff who might be able to help solve our little mystery.
Can anyone help please? (Caravan World passed it to me)

I bought a 9ft Newlands van from a dealer in Liverpool, Sydney in April 1970. It was a 3 berth van with collapsable table berths at rear (double) and single at front, a 2 way electrolux fridge, LPG 2 burner stove and grill. I towed it with a Morris 1100 (with a 1250cc motor). It weighed about 500 kg, had no brakes until I put cable drum brakes on. Newlands vans were manufactured in Victoria. They are no longer in business.

Hi Danielle, You are currently posting on the forum as a ‘Guest’. To be able to post photos, you need to register as a member of the forum. It’s not a big deal to do that. After you’ve registered on the forum you’ll be able to post photos in several different ways. The simplest is to do it by using the ‘Add Attachment’ button in the top right hand corner of the ‘Create Post’ window. When you press that button, you can then select up to three photos from your computer or tablet. There’s more info on that here. If you’re interested on being part of the forum for the longer term, it is better to post photos using an online photo storage website. There’s more info on how to do that here. If you want to use ‘Add Attachment’ and you’re doing it from a mobile phone rather than a computer or tablet, let me know. There’s an extra little step I need to explain. I’m looking forward to see the photo of your Newlands. Don Ricardo

Hi Danielle,I saw the pic of your Newlands, That is from the original Newlands company that closed in 1979,your van is about 1976-77. After 1979 Coronet took over Newlands and sold them alongside each other with different stickers! Then Coronet went bust and the Newlands name was taken over by Concept who now build Viscount,Franklin and Newlands side by side with different stickers! Your Newlands has a wooden frame and possibly a chipboard floor,so be careful if the floor is spongy. Hope this helps Cheers hughdeany

Thanks very much. The floor does have a soft spot and there was a leak in the back wall can't tell if it is still leaking. Thanks and I'll create an account sorry to trouble you and i appreciate the help.

Hi Danielle at some stage the van probably changed hands once or many times and when the new owner was asked by the rego people what year is it when they were re-registering it, best guess by them or maybe the previous owners memory was 1986. Rego don't care and wouldn't have a clue about Vintage Vans build age. Along as they can tick or fill the box!! regards Jenno
