Thanks Frankie, he's being very particular about waterproofing. Main ingredients are sikaflex & Denso tape when he gets up to putting it all back together. No van will be left outside unloved under my watch either! Here are some vinyl tiles I bought. They are much bigger than the original but I think it will work. Black one is an original & blue is left over flood damaged stock from local flooring shop, unfortunately all damaged & brittle so cannot use. I believe the original are asbestos too

Good to see the young fella hasn't lost interest, doing a fine job and a very clever way of lifting the roof and keeping it out of the way while he works 10/10

Any tips on paint stripping on these vinyl type cupboards? Heat gun burns it even on low, sander completely abrades it & I've a sneaking suspicion that nasty paint stripper will melt the faux wood.

G'day sgtl, I presume it's an oil-based enamel?? When I stripped the paint off the doors in my project recently, the enamel layers came off fairly easily, leaving the varnish layers reasonably intact underneath (until I aggressively cut into the varnish with my scraper, that is ). From memory, somebody on this forum discovered and used an environmentally friendly paint stripper that I think was (is) available from Bunnings. Not caustic like your typical stripper (...paint stripper, that is ...although I've heard some of those other strippers can be a bit caustic as well ). My memory cells tell me the person was Aquamum, but I don't trust my memory cells any more. cheers, Al.

Hiya,if it's just Enamel you can use oven cleaner ,it's a bit slower than paint stripper ....but it's cheap and shouldn't mess up the lovely vinyl ...the eco friendly paint stripper from Bunnings is pretty darn slow too, but it is expensive.

G'day sgtl, I like the way your son has opted to have an open plan in the van, and designed it to catch the breeze no matter which way the wind blows. No worries about windows breaking, hey?! Interesting to see the amount of factory wiring in the wall cavity of the van. Looks like enough cable there to do three vans. He could probably take a couple of hundred kilos off the van by reviewing all that wiring. I guess he's not planning on any fast trips with that tractor as the tow vehicle, huh?? Good on him for sticking with it. He'll be a proud owner when it's all done. cheers, Al.

After a long hiatus due to sagging frame, everything not lining up & general loss of interest, have started work again. It really had come to the point where we were going to strip it & tip it. My retired builder friend who helped with my Viscount & Phoenix said he could fix the sag. So pulled off a lot of son of SGTL's paneling, jacked it up, lined the door up & re-aligned it all. Hopefully it's back to where the young fella can do it himself. I'm being optimistic & have taken windows in to be re-glazed. Will take a few pics shortly.

'Never have so many, toiled for so long, & achieved so little'! I am hell bent on finishing this van. Lots of little projects on the go this week. We have power! A table! Can you believe I ran out cereal boxes? Thanks Franklin1 for this great measuring technique to eventually lay this over the old tiles Lots of elbow grease getting paint off the very sad fly screens BUT, ..... you know what the highlight of the day was ?? Bet you can't guess? Forum founder Mark Taylor & Woo Woo Wendy visited us today. They had been to the Bendigo Swap Meet & were on their way to Echuca. What an absolute pleasure to have them both here & to show off our collection.

New mesh. Could not get matching rubber profile so had to re-use old stuff. Tool a smidge too big so immense amount of elbow grease One in-situ Can I just make a note here that you cannot buy aluminium frames the same as the old ones. Stock at hardware stores is much wider. Window arms going in.

Ah, SGTL, the yoof of today. No stickability... But on the other hand I really like your son's other interests. He's got some really nice pieces of equipment there. And besides the Caravelle project seems to be coming along very nicely, even without him. Don Ricardo

Query re- tail lights.
Franklin appears to have had indicators left/right & one brake light in the middle above the number plate. Is that correct? And is that legal if I do it the same?
