Hi Sooty Thanks for the comments. I bought 6 stock LH Torana rims with 185 X 70 tyres off a mate at work. Plan is ..if the bloke doin the blue slip rego inspection picks on the 14 inch Dragway Indys for being over width I will trot home and bung the Torana wheels on . Reason I went with the 14s is that the Van has a 3.55 diff ... 14s will knock the revs down a bit ... more like having a 3.36 ratio under there.... better hwy cruising If it struggles with a van on behind , I can drop the 13 inch wheels on it and let it rev a bit harder. ' Havent tried the 13s on the car as yet . ..I am hoping that they have different centres than the earlier LC and LJ toranas which where widened inwards a long way due to the narrow bodies . LH and LX where a more "Boxy" wider body( rumour has it the body/cabin was styled after the EH sedan) and the rim centres seem to be further in from the outer lip of the rim. If I find some time I will try em on . If they look like doin the job I will drag em off and do as you say.. Have a stack of GTR Chrome bands and a Good set of EH Caps..... Baby moons would be better I am off work till the 6th Jan.....Once we have fed the freeload..... ummm ... her relatives on Christmas day and ushered em off the property I can get down to business in ..... with the rest of the mechanics... Ho... Ho.. Ho

hi reddo
the panno is looking the goods.
pretty flash seat covers, they'll finish it off nicely.
every time we see it on the forum it seems to be a different colour, funny how the different light effects it.

Yo.. Been making the best of the time off work over chrissie. Had my head stuck ( No.. No.. No Col not that sort of "Stuck" ) in the panelvan doing some odds and ends that take a bit of time to get set up to do... Sort of jobs you just cant get keen on after coming home from work... Finished off the door trims... The sag has sorted itself out... Climbed in and out of the back about 50 times and removed the rails and floor. The underfloor was near perfect ... just needed a vacumn out and a wipe over... was expecting rust issues... but all good. while could sit comfortably in the back I sanded the roof and side walls down to the waistline ... then painted it the same colour as the car Next up I used the original floor ply to cut out a new 7 ply floor...sanded and. Undercoated both sides then carved it up to make opening sections up the front and over the spare wheel well. Trial fitted then painted the entire floor. Screwed it down and fitted hinges to the hatch openings Then cut out some side wall infills to hide the butchery that wqas left after the side windows had been plated back in... Gave em 3 coats of marine clear and fitted them this morning... Been fun working with plywood again... sorta keeps my hand in at mangling plywood vintage caravans ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Kneecaps need a bit of XXXX Gold lubing at the end of the day... Finished off upholstering the kick panels tsarvo... just gotta contort myself in between the seat/steering wheel and the floor and refit em tomorrow... yeah yeah.. I know they should have been done before I put the seat in.... Have contacted the bro and he is fiddling with templates to signwrite the outside of the van panels... The original Golden fleece signs I had on the EK van wont fit the EH as it is Bowed both lengthways and vertical on the sides... ... dunno weather an original windowless van was bowed .... but this one is.. so... the signwriting will be going straight on to the side of the van... Booked in for Blue slip inspection on Monday 6th.....Fingers crossed it will get a clean bill of health and be registered in the next few weeks. Was trying to avoid a Christmas/New Year rego deal... but things are so close to being ready to roll I just didn't want to let it sit there for a few months. Hope to have all the wrinkles ironed out before the Autumn Tour around the Snowys..... That's it for the weekend... Gotta head for the fridge... me knees are startn ta get the aches agin...... must be sobering up. Cheers Reddooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.. it hurts

Yo.. Got the weighbridge ticket the other day 1.22T... Local weighbridge was shut so took and extended tour to the local tip.. 13k away.. which include a few 80kph stretches which allowed a bit of overspeeding.... Once over 50MPH the thing started vibrating... Thoughts turned to uni joints. Got over and back Ok.. with no other obvious faults showing up.... So.. up the next day and dug out 4 X 13 X 6 inch widened EH rims... through them and the torana rims and tyres on the ford ute and went and got the rubber swapped over bunged them and the Torana caps on the car and went out for another illegal time trial to see if the vibes where there...?? All gone.. Gunna leave em on ... at least until after Monday arvo..... Got the 2 X 14" X 8" balanced today.. around 100grams on each wheel to get em behaving the way they should... Meanwhile I have been ordered off the van for a few days... not by the missus... But by the bro.... has put in about 8 to 10 hours on either side panel... Still see at least another 4 or 5 hours before they are done... Have spent some time on the "NECOT" TD .. getting 12v and 240v lights wired in .. even managed to bung a couple of 12v fuses and double pole earth leakage breakers in circuit this time Cruz... ;D ;D No more smoke and flame.... More later... Reddo

Just back from the inspection gurus workshop,..... Not good news. Drag link had a bit of play in it ( I knew this but had forgotten to nip the end cap screws up a turn or 2) Brake pipe from junction block below master to front right wheel is copper... that's a no no... needs to be steel Both front brake hoses need a saddle and tension spring to hold them away from the top king pin.. even though EHs never had ... but HRs did. Clutch slave cylinder hose needs a heat protector as it runs within 2 " of the exhaust and last but certainly not the least... actually its the biggest job. . The floor pans have been replaced and the original spot welds on the cross member had been drilled out .. with the new floor spot welded back to the cross member... but continuously welded to other parts of the pan... along the trans hump .. across the firewall and inside of the sill etc.. Floor has to be continuously welded to the cross member... That means taking the seat, seat belts, carpet, sound proofing out and leaving someone sitting inside the car with a bucket of water and an extinguisher while the floor is welded from underneath,,,, Aaah well.. time is on my side.... and had most of the above fixed before dinner tonight. Just gotta find someone now who is willing to lay under the car and fix the floor pan issue with a MIG welder... Bit of a bugga ,.... but it will be a stronger car when its done. Regards Reddo

That was a bit of a let down Reddo but it is probably better to find that out now than in a few months time cruising down the road, hope it goes well and you find someone willing to lay under the car and get burnt, at least that what happens to me when I try upside down welding ;D

Yo..... Spent last Friday arvo laying across the seat in the panelvan while hoisted to near the roof of an old mates shed . He was underneath stitch welding the cross member while I lay there inhaling a cocktail of burnt fish oil and body deadener fumes and putting out "spot fires" for about an hour. Eddy Bennett done the job.. he's in his late 60s early seventies and has a very nice 49 dodge Kingsway on 1 tonner chassis well under construction ,,, bodywork is beautiful.. 360 Chrysler donk and auto.will be a sweet thing when it's finished Got all the fires out and I checked the welds...all good.. How much do I owe ya Eddy?? $40.00 !!!!! Rust proofed /painted the floor and welds...Put carpet etc back in Friday night ... Trotted the car up for another inspection on Monday. swung into servo and was followed in by a police car... 2 cops jumped out with bullet proof vests on.... I didn't know whether to put my hands in the air ... or.. shit myself !!!!! Then another 3 carloads of police arrived across the road and down the street a bit.... And here is me in the middle of it all just wanting a bit of paperwork done... dang near had a job for a bit of paperwork in the back of my pants Turns out someone had reported gunshots in the area about 5 mins before I pulled up... So.. me n the mechanic just sat out the front of the sevo while the cops done a check of the neighbourhood with guns at the ready and a couple of sniffer dogs going crazy..... After about 15 mins they gave up and went back to the station. Rego check went smoothly. went to the registry yesterday and shelled out a few hundred bucks ..... swapped plates of the Ford Ranger to the panno..... That hurdle out of the way I can get some towing hours in and sort any driveline bugs out . Then start trip prepping for the Snowy mountains Tour at the end of April... Dual batterys etc... There is a business jut down the road from here that makes long range fuel tanks for all sorts of modern 4x4s... tanks are called ARB long rangers. Might have a yarn with em and see what it would be worth to make up a fuel tank that took up the entire spare wheel well like the 100 litre tank I had under the green EK ute a few years back Maybe not in stainless steel this time.... ? Would mean mounting the spare wheel vertically in the back of the van or ....in under the floor behind the seat where the second battery is going to live. Sure would give me a lot bigger range between fill ups than the current 8 gallon / 40 litre tank Busting me gut to take the van for a run but its been raining here on and off for a few days now..... aaaaaahhhh well... its gotta get grubby sooner or later. Let the fun begin !!! Reddo

Congrats on the Rego Reddo. Panno looks great! You're gunna have to allow some extra time on the tour to have a chin wag with all the punters who are going to stop you in the street where ever you go. You've had some great V V tow car combos over the last decade or so. This one gets my vote.(though the EK combo was a close second!) Cheers, Cactus.

Yeah thanks for the comments guys,,, I am happy... Bro and I got yarning yesterday... the signs need some sort of border around them.. at the moment it looks like bits and pieces have just been added to the sides at different times...needs a "frame" of some sort. maybe should have done an infill patch in a lighter background colour before we done the signs. I am sure Jeff will come up with a solution on Saturday morning when he gets down here with his magic brushes!!! The missus has wheeled her 1934 BSA back into the "shed of invention" from down the back "shed of rejection" without saying so much as a word to me...... She seized the motor up about 8 months ago and I promised her the minute the EH was registered I would do an autopsy on the bike, and try and bring it back to life ... Seems her memory hasn't faded . Damn.. I was gunna try and slip another project into the shed under her nose without getting "sprung"...I have been offered an unfinished EJ ute with Supercharged V6 Commodore motor and a stack of EJ /EH spare parts.... 4 doors down from here in a blokes shed. Spotted it back in '97 not long after we moved to Barnsvegas...he has done nothing with it since back then... !!!! Arrr well... I guess 2014 will be "The year of the bike" Regards Reddo
