G'day Adrian, Please contact me on 0409850971 as I'm in Melbourne and have a 1938 "pop" top and would be very interested in seeing your van if I can. Thanks, John

G'day Adrian,
Sorry about the diversion on number plates! I would like to second Roehm's comments on your van. It really is most unusual and is certainly worthy of restoration.
Having now seen pics of it, I would describe it as a 'folding van' rather than a pop-top. A pop-top usually involves a part of the roof which can be raised a few centimetres to provide improved headroom while camped. There is usually a canvas wall which then fills the gap between the raised part and the rest of the roof. Your van is quite something else again where the walls fold in half and the front and back hinge up. That's what makes it so unusual and interesting.
I presume the 'steering wheel' at the back comes off for storage once the roof and walls have been raised or lowered. Imagine the fun a kid could have if his or her parents left the wheel on and then went to bed! ;D ;D ;D
A great van!
With admiration,
Don Ricardo

Hi All, Thanks for all your responses. The wheel at the back is used to wind the wire cable that lifts the roof up and is removable. It used to take my dad about 10 minutes to put it all up, it also has a custom annex . The table is put down for a double bed, and at the other end bunk beds fold out (mattresses are the seat cushions). It has a water tank and the water is pumped in by a foot pedal in front of the sink. It used to look like this The steps fold into the van. Dad was thinking of donating it to the Museum in Canberra or if someone was willing to buy it and restore it would consider selling. It is based in Bulleen Melbourne. If you would like to contact me direct please do so at speakers@techno.net.au Cheers ;D ;D Adrian
