Hi All I was away on another bike rally last weekend. Got a lead on 2 vans. One is a 15ft Single axle Fairlands .. will put up pictures some other time. Other is an old Carapark .... Not your usual workmans van. Not a superb... Can anyone I.D it for me??? It has a shower recess with aluminium pedestal washbasin.. Had a bit of a fire in the stove area .... Its for sale. Nopt too sure if i wanna drag it home or not?? Gotta be worth saving just for the portholes. One either side.. and 2 in the roof . 16"ford rims. Drawbar has been welded either side just below the front of the body. Fairlands has copped a branch off an iron bark on the roof ... not too serious otherwise in reasonable good condition. Pixs tonight of that one. regards Reddo

Carapark Superb Deluxe circa early to mid fifties they reckon, have visited one a bit larger, they have the larger wrap round front viewing windows, shower and all gas lighting, top of the range.

Hi, Here’s a couple of photos of a Superb deluxe I visited, the owners father bought this one brand new in 1952 at the Brisbane caravan show paying a whopping 3000 pound, they are the top of the line and he said there were only nine made at that time, hope this helps PS; same size i reckon Cheers Stephen&Julie

Hi Stephen and julie Thanks for the photos of the superb...... If ya look closly at the first 2 pix you will notice the van has a flue over the stove and a flue above the kero fridge... Both have short chimneys with tin cans over them to stop the weather getting down inside. There are 2 behive light fittings one in the middle front under the top cupboard and one in the same position down inthe bedroom. There is a fold down "night and day "bed frame in there. The van has 2 roof hatches. I reckon she will weigh a ton .. or more ... but i will be dragging it home before christmas ...i hope... Dont worry about what Trish says... if she blows up at me i will move into the carapark.... Will keep everyone who has asked for bits. not sure what to do with it . might be a lot rarer than i thought it was.... Hmmmmmmm Kempsey.... might have been owned by Slim Dusty... ;D ;D ;D Will go back and do battle with photobucket again now and throw up some pix of the fairlands..... I reverted back to the old photobucket this morning... seems the new one is promoting facebook vigourously. If ya wanna use the old pbucket just click on the help button top right corner of the new look page and there is a section asking what ya think of it?? Give em both barrels... There is a clickable link ta put ya back in old pbucket.... Just the shot for computer dummies like me. Regards Reddo

Is the little teardrop badge common in the caraparks ? coz my little hunter junior has one in it too, wondering if that may help date mine a bit better.
By the way that is a really cool carapark, definately worth saving !!! nicole.

Hi there reddo, Thanks for posting the photos of the unusual Carapark, the other Caraparks in my yard said they would be willing to move over and make room for that particular stable mate so it didnt end up in bits Surely i'ts worth restoring Anyhoo, good luck with the retrieval, cheers from the carapark whisperer, um er.... retro64.

Yeah, although a mess it would be nice to see it restored rather then robbed for parts.

Hey Reddo What an interesting van, more style than your average 'toaster' - where are all those members looking for a Carapark when you need them? Hope it gets to survive. George

Hi Andrew Yup.. you guessed it.. Austin Freeway. Was in good condition until the local kiddies found thier way onto the blokes well hidden property and decided that glass was evil ... then set about smashing every window in it. Surprisingly good condition apart from the "ventilation ". I have decided i wont be bringing this van home. I have had several "expressions of interest "about the van . so i will ring the owner and ask if it is OK with him for me to pass on his contact details to those people. Retro64 is first in line ... Regards Reddo

Thanks reddo, We appreciate you giving us first dibbs on this gorgeous old Carapark, and for posting it in the first place. Thankyou. Unfortunately for us we will have to let this one go . On the up side there will be someone else super excited ;D and full of all thats needed to get this old beauty up and running. We're so glad to see that quite afew other forum members would like to see it kept intact. What a worthy project, unusual length and design. The size of Caraparks front windows was a real invitation for the scenery to come in. Imagine this old beauty in its Hay Day, the strength of Aussie?steel, on the edge if industrial in its design, they certainly built them to last didn't they even if they're not as pretty as some. Like they say though,Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;D I wonder if the practical buyer looked at the Caraparks and the lack of maintenence, painting, no wood rot etc, and considered them lasting for the next 60 odd years, as they certainly have. We will be following this thread with interest and certainly hope the new owner posts the journey this van takes from here on. Yes..... if she were mine I'd christen her Beauty Cheers retro64

Hi Yes the van is avaiable to anyone who is prepared to drive to kempsey. Spend at least 2 or 3 hours of sweat and toil loading it onto a trailer and working your way through approx 1.5K of winding track across dried up narrow creek crossing, sharp twists and turns between trees.... Get the picture.... Please consider all this before approaching me for a contact phone number... it wont be a walk in the park getting it out onto the road. You will need a big healtyhy four wheel drive and a solid car trailer to load it on. Carapaks of this size are not light.. so... that is worth considering ... not only for the tow trip home but also keep in mind that you will need something bigger than your average Holden or Ford to tow it with once it is restored. Not trying to scare anyone off it... Just stating cold hard facts and the reality of what is involved in getting it home. Please consider and then pm me if you are really .. really ...seriuos about restoring it. . I can appreciate that a lot of you would like to see it restored.. i can also see that there is a lot of hard to get bits on there as well. So... after seeing comments about worth restoring it ,,, and comments to the effect that some bits would be nice on other vans i wont pass judgement on whover ends up with it.. or.. whatever they choose to do with it I am booked in for a carpal tunnel op in a few weeks so i wont be doing no van rescuing until afte christmas. Old mate aint in a hurry to get it off his lot .. so if we dont get a serious taker in the next few weeks i will probably tackle it next year just for the sake of getting it out of where it is and back to newcastle. Regards Reddo

Also keep in mind that many of the toaster style Caraparks don't fit on 6'6" wide car trailers - the wheel spacing is closer to 7 foot. Some wheel distance measuring would be wise - yes I have learnt the hard way :-)
