Hi all, I haven't been on the forum for a really long time and have just read this post again. For those that were wondering who owned the Gypsy at the Nationals, it was mine! No it's not a Gypsy Gem, nor is it white, but it is a Gypsy, and it was just inside the gates at Cowra. Hope this helps? ? Cheers, John

Wow Don R we forum members are so lucky to have someone like you reading up "the bible" by Mr Winser on our vintage vans. The lovely guys at G&L Caravans who now own Gypsy carvans agree it's a pre 54 when they brought in the metal windows. Thank you so much for the additional information ;D Hi, you may have seen this one, but here's an ad for the 1954/55 models with the all new metal windows - I note they were also coming out in Alply.

Hi Sandra Great to see your photos of your Gypsy van. I have a Gypsy Super Gem, around 1954/55 I think. Pretty similar to the shape etc of yours, but it has aluminium framed windows. The original hatch is missing from mine, so I need to make one. I wonder if you could please do me a small favour and take a photo of the hatch so I can try and get the design the same. I would be very pleased if you could do that. Kind rgards and thanks. Bruce Cumming. Bruce.cumming1@bigpond.com

Hi Dotty, My guess for early 50's 16" 4 stud wheels would start with English cars of the period, firstly Austin A40 as there were a lot of them around then. I also think the early Vanguards & Vauxhalls had 4 stud, & possibly 16" Holden never had 16" wheels, English Ford Consuls & Zephyrs (from memory) were 15", & none of the common american imports that I know of had 4 studs. Early Ford Prefects had 5 stud, as did VW. But I believe they are more likely to be Austin because they were the most common English car of the day. No doubt someone will correct my suggestions if I am wrong JBJ Austin 16 from the 40's.

What sort of pics would you like? She's got a cover over her atm but I can take pics of the inside easy and get one of the outside later if you need it. I've got one of Sandra's pics looking down on to the top of the van, it may be on here but can send you it too. Helen

These were off my mates Austin 16 which had had a hydraulic brake conversion using Mitsubishi L300 drums which are 6 stud so he gave me that set when he converted it back to original.

I had seen your previous posts about your Gypsy Super Gem, but I hadn't twigged that it was the one Aquamum had (although I see you did state that in one of your posts!). Great to hear that that van has been passed on to someone who is part of the forum. I think that the photo you mention looking down on top of the van is shown in Aquamum's post that starts this thread. Is that the one you mean? At one point (on this thread) Aquamum reported that she had lost the roof hatch and had another one put together. I think the photo in the first post shows the original hatch before it was lost, but I am not 100% sure on that. Don Ricardo

Hi Don Yep,the photo of the top of van is here in Aquamum's post. Not sure if the hatch was lost lost or it just came off and Aquamum put the same one back on? I keep forgetting to ask her. Sandra will probably let us know next time she's online. The hatch still has the old hinges and what not, which I will post pics of soon.

Here's a better pic of the water pump. The van hasn't got a water tank, I imagine it must have had one at one stage, will have to look up what would have been set up - if anyone can give me a clue please do.

does anyone know that this is coming out of the side of this gypsy super gem - pic taken from an ad - we have a round patch plate in the same spot under the door side window. It has been suggested it may have been a water tank inlet - though funny its on the opposite side to the kitchen. Further thought - if it was for a water tank maybe it was on the opposite side to the kitchen to balance the weight better?
