Picked up Abby my Kombi that I'm going to tow Penny Proper t with last Friday... And had to put her straight on a tow truck. Battery had half a volt and when the Raa man jumpstarted her the alternator was putting out 18 to 19 volts... When my mechanic started looking.... He found more faults. nothing electrical works properly, and the brakes are illegal. The suspension is dangerous. And then there's the rust....
I expected a roadworthy car with issues that would need fixing before I travel anywhere but that wouldn't be a problem for the next few months in Adelaide, with a little rust but nothing too serious... What I have makes me think a new roof for my bug would have been a lot easier......!
Vanessa, Penny and a rather ill Abby.

Me too, she's really an adorable Kombi but in rather worse condition than I expected..... If she passes a compression test all is not lost..... The motor was supposed to have been rebuilt, and guarenteed, not so long ago..... Everything else is fixable relatively easily. Time and money, as they say.... If she fails she's on the first truck back to Darwin...! And I don't really want to do that....

Heard from my mechanic again today.... The good news is the compression test wasn't all bad.... So she's staying in Adelaide and being repaired. My reasoning is ALMOST everything that I've seen.... I love mechanics that ignore OH&S rules and let customers in the workshop to see for themselves.... would have been on the "list" to do (or at least investigate...) before installing the coffee machine and fridges etc and leaving town.... even the auto transmition (which is leaking....) isn't exactly a surprise.... ....It's just the timing of it all that stinks! We went past $3,000 in repairs and she's still not finished! I just want to drive my Kombi... everyone else has. Vanessa. PS. Do any of the other Volkswagen type people on here know anything about fitting towbars to Kombi's? I've contacted three different places and they all say the same thing...."maybe". Seems there's no such thing anymore about tow bars actually being designed to fit them? Thanks.

I always thought she was a 74.... but she's actually a 75. Surprising what you find out when you actually see the car in person....
They only seem to still be doing towbars for the T5...
I'm in the process of joining Kombi Club, but they're not as prompt as when I joined this one....
What's so 'hard' with the 72?
