Hi, I was invited to look at a 14 foot van today, that was built by this company, in Taren Point, in Sydney. They supposedly were one of Sydneys early caravan builders. The company supposedly built it for the father of the manager of the company. The guy that has it now bought it in about 1977. Its been in a barn near me since, & last rego is 1977. Its perfect in structural & internal condition. the owner is 90 this year, as fit as anything, & sharp as a tack. He just decided to offload a few things, & this is one. So he has rubbed the outside back, & started priming & repainting it himself. The windows have just been opened for the first time since the 70's. Interior is perfect in condition, no stove or fridge, no visible flyscreens, & original vinyl is worn. The timber windows are as good as new, with unmarked full gloss paint. Wheels are 13" Holden, with original (still good) 6.40x13 Goodyear G8 tyres, & aftermarket steel hubcaps( a bit rusty) He's talking about refinishing it, putting rego on it, & selling it. Its obvious he's not in need of funds, so I believe him about just trying to reduce his disposables. I made him an offer as is, & have no idea wether he will accept or not. BUT main reason for this post is that the van is very close to being the same as a lot of vans we have seen on this forum, that no one knows who built. Earlee has a smaller version, & this is near identical. So we may have a lead to who built them. I have no intention of butting into this guys privacy by telling others where it is, unless he asks me to. If I miss out, so be it. JBJ

G'day JBJ, Now you have gone and thrown another conundrum into the question of who actually made this style of caravan. The one you refer to as having been owned by earlee has its thread in DHL HERE, we decided it was a “Carefree” van similar to one I had ( sold to the “Big hArt people) and another owned by yellowuki, who did a great job by talking to the people at the Malvern Historical Society which is where the “Carefree” advertisements said they were made.. And just to throw another curved ball into the equation..... there was indeed a "Caravan Industries" listed in Keith Winsor's trade directories from 1954 until 1962 located at Hurstville..... (may have been longer, I only have books going up to '62) As is often the case................. more questions than answers Cobber.
