Based on what we've collated on the register, I'd agree with 1969 Ambassador. Looks like a great family model there lohny.

Hi, our friend has purchased a Viscount Ambassador with wrap windows, alloy frame, textured cladding all round, sort of an arrow decals painted on unpainted alloy cladding. Chassis number hard to read, but we think E2326 or E2320 or E232? From looking at pictures above I am guessing 1966 or 1967, does the chassis number give definite year please?

Hi Linpet,
Based on Twocutekelpies' Viscount register, an Ambassador with a serial number of E23?? is a 1966 model. Do the coloured flashes on the side match up with what is shown for that year in the first post on this thread?

Thank you Don, yes actually they do match the newspaper photo of the Sydney Caravan Show in September 1966, So 1966 must be it. Linda

Hi, Looks like we have the next one of the rank from Amberb's post with E10356 Chassis number. We are trying to get the thing registered but are having trouble verifying the year of manufacture as we have no paperwork. This forum threads either a 69 or 70 model but the inspector won't go that as proof. A search of the number plate (VIC J28-739) brings up nothing, and neither does the chassis number on the trailer search. Someone said to weld a year into the drawbar and distress the paint to make it look old? Any tips appreciated. Ps its in excellent nick really though missing the stove and the counter above the stove has been replaced. some interior skylight trim is also missing, and I know my partner would love some original dining cushions if anyone reading has any of these available. Thanks..Jeremy.

Hi jeremy112, Don't muck with the registrar department, honesty is the best policy.
Pending in which state you are residing, mostly you will need a weighbridge certificate, a safety (roadworthy Qld) certificate & a gas certificate if you are intending to have gas in the van.
Call your state office, you advise that an inspector has refused some information ? then ask what they need. Cheers
PS: we towed our van to the local registrar inspection station, & with no previous info (it was a wreck for years in a paddock) they put it through as a home build. It was fully restored & I had a roadworthy & weighbridge ticket.

Hi, doing a search of the web trying to find info on a van I want to buy. Seller says its a 75 viscount ambassador, but the chassis number is E9223 which according to this thread would put it late 60's/early 70's right? I'm eager to know if it would have an aluminium frame for certain because I don't want to deal with potentially extensive renovations....
If anyone's still around and can help, that would be great!

Hi Pippas,
Welcome to the forum.
I’ve checked Twocutekelpies’ Viscount register, and the serial number E9223 indicates that the van you are looking at was built in 1969.
The’E’ at the beginning of the serial number would normally indicate that it is an Ambassador with an aluminium frame. Ambasssadors with a wooden frame had a serial number beginning with ‘D’. However a way you can check is that if the cladding is attached to the frame with rivets it has an aluminium frame, but if the cladding is attached with screws, it has a wooden frame.
I wouldn’t expect a 1969 Ambassador to have a wooden frame. I think the wooden framed models stopped in 1968.
Hope that helps?

Hi Don Ricardo,
I purchased a few years ago and at POS was advised early 70's, but since have been advised maybe more like 67-69? Viscount Amabassador 15' with E10109 on the draw bar.

Hi Mjordan328, Welcome to the Forum. I've checked Twocutekelpie's Viscount register, and E10109 would be a 1969 Viscount Ambassador. Hope that helps. Don Ricardo

Awesome, that's what we suspected after a chat with a knowledgeable park staff person in Seymour a while back.
How do we confirm ATM and GTM? I believe my set up is OK but I'm very confused!
These are not actual weights, they are permissible weights according to manufacturer, but I'm having trouble finding these? I've read on 1 post that it could be 1350kg, while it seems my single 1 3/4' square axel is rated up to 1400kg.
I currently weigh 1000kg unhitched after reno.

Hi Mjordan328,
Checking Twocutekelpies' Viscount register, E2222 is a 1966 Viscount Ambassador. The 'E' normally indicates the van has an aluminium frame.
Hope that helps.
