Hi all. I know this a really old post, and I can't seem to find anything written more recent, but I had an interesting conversation with the gas certifier that we used when rebuilding our 68 Viscount. As nothing was left to restore inside, we had to replace everyting! I had bought a beautiful '60's stove that we thought would would suit but was told that it couldn't be used because it didn't have the new AGA stamp of approval! No cut-off valve - no certification! He was a "stickler for the rules" and so wouldn't entertain the story that "it came out of the van originally so why can't I just put it back in" He said that the gas certifyers are struggling with the problem of restored vans - if you remove the stove to paint the cupboard or renew the aluminium heat shielding, you can't put it back in and get it certified! Has anyone else had this problem? We had to invest $845 on a "modern" stove/oven to get certified for registration! Did I get stuck with the only certifier that thinks this way? I had a similar problem with a 50s gas cooker that we bought for our kitchen at home. Because we moved it from another house, we had to get it certified, which included having a cut out switch fitted in the oven. Cost some $$, but at least we know it is safer...

Great version - I've never seen anyone alter the tuning of bongos by blowing through a rubber tube!

SGTL, you certainly have a keen eye for all things vintage van related!
I picked up a copy of this album at a record fair and i must admit it was probably the cover which drew me to it.
A good record nonetheless!

Sorry to question the experts, but are you sure this model was called a Don Special? Looks like they pinched the badge from a Holden to me!

I had a qualified gas fitter disconnect the gas lamp, install a pressure regulator and test the supply to the stove. I am confident that with some care, the system can be used safely. I have a fire blanket, extinguisher and close the valve on the bottle when not in use.

Quite possibly a Coronet from the early 60s.

My 1959 Coronet is 14.1/2 ft long and weighs around 1000kg. At home, I park it under a carport on a smooth concrete driveway, with a gradual downward slope away from the street (approx 400mm over 5m). Although the van is fitted with electric brakes, these can only be activated by the towcar braking system. So when the van is parked, I place rubber chocks behind both wheels and a metal car stand under the front of the drawbar. Can anyone suggest improvements to my chocking system? I shudder to think what would happen if one of the chocks ever slipped!

Keables in Melbourne cbd is slot head heaven, but you kinda gotta go there in person and wait at the counter to be served!

As Al suggested, it must be an early Coronet as it is very similar to mine (No 9) which i bought from kaybee. Can you check the draw bar for a welded serial number?

WB4BB booked in for Fri and Sat nights. Apparently we got the last site, which doesn't seem to add up?

I don't think cardboard would last very long if there it's any kind of moisture/condensation.

Hi Sheppo, I have 3 sets of 13" Holden rims with new light commercial truck tyres and FB hubcaps. Would you be interested in the complete package? I am in Melbourne, so shipping would have to be considered...

Although we didn't join any of the offsite expeditions (rounding up our two ankle biters can be tricky), we thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend in Bendigo ;D It was wonderful to add a few more faces to names and peruse some amazing caravans. Thanks to all (including the local birdlife) for enduring the dawn broadcasts from our hungry toddler Monty is tucked up in his carport, but looking forward to the next Vic outing (Glen Cromie?) ... hopefully the inspiration I need for a couple more improvements.

Hi Seeshell,
Please add WB4BB to your list of starters!
I assume you have consulted the BOM Supercomputer and can guarantee a fine weekend ;D
Thanks,
Paddy

What a beauty! You mentioned in a previous post that you might have to sell it to make room for a 77 Civic ... ... Get rid of the Civic!

For the first 2 weeks in January, we took our 1959 Coronet down to Surfside Holiday Park in Warrnambool ;D ;D ;D It was great to see a few other vintage vans dotted around the park – and particularly the magnificent Ivanhoe! Frank was happy to show us through ... and what a great job he is doing restoring this Long, Long Trailer. Although I have previously admired Ivanhoe on this forum, I hadn’t realised he is Coronet serial number 10 to our number 9. Perhaps this was the first time the two “brothers” have managed to catch up, since they were built in Ballarat circa 1959?

Excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by "wide"?
I have a set of 3 standard Holden 13" rims with new light commercial truck tyres and FB hubcaps that would be perfect for a teardrop build.
I no longer need them, as I have modified my van to 14", but would like to recover my costs for the 13" set.
