6th Caravans at Historic Winton (2024). The organizers the Austin 7 club, is inviting any vintage or classic vans along for the fifth time.
* Fri 24 - Sun 26 May 2024 (Date already confirmed) * Free entry to vintage/classic caravaner´s who will bring their caravans to Historic Winton for display. * Camping available at the raceway campground for a fee * Historic vehicle displays and race day for cars and motorbikes * Fires allowed in provided fire drums
This year they are running the 47th annual Historic Winton. Every year for the past few years it has been growing, with more and bigger displays, more varied exhibits and more tenacious racing. Last year was the first time that the vintage/classic caravans were asked to join this great race day.
This year they would really like to feature a vintage and retro caravan display again, as interest in this nostalgic style of holidaying is growing.
As part of the 47th celebration they would like all vintage and classic vans on Saturday and Sunday to be displayed to showcasing the retro caravaning and camping scene. This is a fantastic opportunity to show our vans off to thousands of interested vintage motor enthusiasts.
Winton Raceway has a dedicated campsite next to the track, where we can stay overnight, the vans will however need to be moved a short distance from the camping area to the display area around 9am, for the Saturday and Sunday display. The camping fee at the race track last year was $30 per person and $15 per child per night – all sites un-powerd, but with hot showers and toilet facilities.
As a show of gratitude for our support the Historic Winton Committee will provide free entry tickets before the event for the whole Historic Winton weekend to anyone who will bring their vintage or classic caravans along to the Historic Winton for display. The normal general admission fees for this weekend are Sat $30, Sun $35, Weekend $60 and Children under 16 N.C. It will be alright to arrive Friday and leave Monday morning.
There will be around 500 cars and bikes expected to be racing on the weekend and there is going to be even more interesting exhibitors. Also, this year, they are anticipating the participation of several clubs that will create their own displays.
The Historic Winton Committee are all looking forward to having a lot of fun again this year, enjoying the spectacle of historic and vintage racing and the atmosphere of the years gone by.
I will need to give them a list of numbers (Adults, Children, Vans) - by 1st April 2024, please PM me the number of tickets required with your address (King Fisher). Then tickets for the entry will be mailed out to you closer to the event

2022 - 5th Annual vintage caravans at Winton After a pause due the the well known virus, and restrictions easing the Austin 7 club have made the decision to welcome back displays and spectators to this year's Historic Winton car and motorbike races. I must apologize for the short notice but I was only informed last night of the last minute decision made by the organizers. Unfortunately the usual free tickets we can get are extremely limited and I need to urgently know if you would like to come along so please PM me ASAP within the next few days, better still PM me now with the number of adults attending so I can secure you some tickets. You won't regret it, as it is a fantastic weekend.

I don’t think anyone would mind what vehicle (caravan/motorhome etc) you have as long as you have an interest in vintage caravans. I personally certainly would not mind at all, and welcome anyone, I have myself a vintage home built bond wood towed by a modern (now classic '99 Ford) I think the main point is to get together with good friends who enjoy common interes and enjoy talking about old vans and other stuff, while seeing new places.

We had to get a vic roads vin number when we registered Bessie, was very easy just rang Vic roads and they gave one over the phone. Just make sure it is clearly stamped on the drawbar, they check when you get the van registered. We stamped it directly on the drawbar in a more discreet location with number stamps and also made a small stainless steel plate and stamped it onto that and attached it to another location which was more visible on the drawbar. It passed their inspection with no issues.

Fyi the checkers used in Bessie are vinyl self adhesive tiles from the big green shed, they are all still stuck down well with no problems. Each tile consists of 4 squares, 2 black and 2 white.

Sorry to have to inform those interested in coming to Winton this, but I just received this email this morning: Cancellation of Historic Winton 2020 Australia’s longest-running and dearly loved historic motorsport event, Historic Winton has been cancelled for 2020. “It is with heartfelt disappointment that the Austin 7 Club and it’s Historic Winton Subcommittee must cancel Historic Winton for 2020 due to COVID-19 Coronavirus control,” organiser, Len Kerwood, President of the Austin 7 Club said. “The Austin 7 Club is taking this action, as all other major event organisers are doing, since we wish to do our bit for the health and wellbeing of all of our stakeholders.” COVID-19 has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation and our governments are cancelling major events into the foreseeable future with further measures possibly afoot. “Already the preparations for Historic Winton have become difficult in some quarters,” Len said. “This means that the 44th Historic Winton will now be held next year on 28th to 30th May, 2021 instead. “Importantly, we thank the HMRAV, competitors, clubs, spectators, partners and sponsors, Benalla Rural City Council, Winton Motor Raceway and all of our stakeholders for this usual extraordinary support to date.” Here are some important actions for stakeholders to know:
Tickets – all who have purchased tickets for Historic Winton and camping online will receive a full refund including booking fees. Drivers – will be refunded their fees. Where necessary, Event Secretary Peta Lee will be in touch to organise this over the next week or so. Clubs – that were committed to celebrating anniversaries with displays will be invited to exhibit in 2021. The Benalla Historic Vehicle Tour (29th May) – This event is also cancelled.
We understand that many will need to cancel or alter accommodation in Benalla and surrounds. May we suggest, that if possible, the booking be transferred to a later time this year to help boost the economy of Benalla which is taking a big hit. There are many great attractions in the area which are listed online at Enjoy Benalla .
People can stay in touch through the Historic Winton Facebook and Instagram pages for historic motorsport and vehicle news and information. Those who would like to be on our email list for future information, please email us through our website: historicwinton.org/contact
Stay safe in these strange times guys and I hope to see you all at Winton next year. Kam

A big thank you to all who made the effort to come along and put your lovely vans on show. And thanks for the great times around the fire and camp.
Word is that it will be on again next year so if you know any one else (even classic van owners) who want to join us pass their details on to me by PM and I will add them to the list and keep them informed for next year.

Arr the rules what can I say, it can easily be summed up as "SLACK", these rules are in place mainly for the V8 races which draw a different type of crowd, so they need the ability to control the alcohol. For us you will have no problem... I too enjoy a drink around the fire at happy hour and on into the movie night, never had any problem with them yet.
You are allowed fires and they provide drums so we plan to have a fire and shared munchies before a movie. Last time we only got to watch half of the Italian job before the gremlins struck, so I plan to watch the second half lol...
You can even use a generator this weekend although they ban them for the V8 weekend next week. The showers are extremely wet and hot, but camping is un-powered. However a great atmosphere being so close to the track.
So relax and enjoy will be great again.
I will be there around Lunch time on Friday, Look out for dad's little modern teardrop.
