well folks, the lovely Clipper Tandem, ..........or "ol girl" as Sandy (golfview) faithfully refers to her as, is now safely tucked away in the Beverley shed.
To the critics (yet another good old caravan wasted away in the big green Beverley shed ;D), ..........the ol girl will be out and about behind the 58 Chevy Biscayne by the end of 2012
.........guaranteed
.....and the "ol girl" has a name
. .........Sandy, Brian and I discussed the Clipper's name over freshly baked chocolate cake (
Brian and I sniffed out the aroma of freshly country baked chocalte cake before we even got to Sandy's driveway) and coffee at Sandy's place in Owen.
The Clipper is to be named "
Gwennie", after Grandma Gwen, who with Sandy's Grandad owned the Clipper for many years.
I'll incorporate the retrieval of the Clipper with pics of our trip accross the paddock:
most will recall my trip to Owen in outback South Australia in February, during the weekend of the Tanunda V V gathering:
on the same weekend (Tanunda in Feb), I spotted the Gofar
and later did a deal with Kevin, the owner and member of the
SA Chrysler Restorers Club, a great bunch of blokes and ladies ........
so, ........on the back of the retrieval truck and also headed to WA, was the
Gofar:
after coffee and cake, we hooked up "Gwennie", sorted out a coupla "issues", including securing the Clipper's fridge on the truck ..........the obvious thing to do would have been to put the Eloctrolux Fridge in the caravan,.......but it didn't seem to want to go (maybe it came out via the hatch
....as they quite often do)
said our goodbyes to Sandy and kids.
a big thank you to Sandy
and her dad for organising new bearings and tyres for Gwennie in preparation for the long haul accross the paddock
did some electrical repairs in Port Wakefield SA where strong gusty norwesterly winds slowed our speed down to 60 kph
Coming into a lil town in SA, the
Reddotel International Mark 11 Van Finda that Brian stole
out of Reddo's PV at Cowra, started a very faint ......beep ........beep .......beep.......beep .........
as we got a further few ks down the road, the beeps got louder ........BEEP ........BEEP .........BEEP .......and the latest creation from the Shed of Invention lead us directly to a neat lil bondy
a quick lick of paint and she'll be ready for the next nats
and again .......beep ........beep .......beep ......just outta Wudinna in SA
Brian & I drove continuously and well into to the night, only stopping at Truck Bays to grab a few hours sleep. The Clipper's inner spring mattress's proved very comfortable, so we slept well, then hit the road again.
parked up at Ceduna whilst Brian visited the laundromat
.....his overnight bag of jocks and sox had literally "fallen off the back of the truck" about 100 kms outta Hay NSW
a nobleman at the wheel:
At Coolgardie (465kms from Beverley), Daggsey in the Tori GTR and his mate in a Subaru Liberty finally caught up with and passed us
daggsey, Zef and Brian .....not necesaarily in that order
and finally arrived at the Beverley shed 7:30pm Thursday
