Hey Hey!! That's the one!
Well before Jimmy Cook cruised up the Great Barrier Reef and Billy Janz sailed into the Gulf of Carpenteria in 1606,the Macassan peoples of Indonesia were sailing their large canoes down to northern Australia in search of trepang(sea slugs). They were depicted in this art by the local aboriginal tribes of Groote Eylandt hundreds of years ago.Amazing stuff.
Over to you JB. Im sure you can dig out a pic or two from your extensive V Vanning travels over the years!

Reddo was referring to Andrew Ettingshausen...aka E.T. who opened a fishing lodge on Groote Eylandt some years ago.

You've jolted the memory bank Reddo!!....with your comment...."...looks like it might have been an old mission .. or barracks .. military post of some sort. .... or small town that just got up and left leaving only the streets and the stone caine.!!! I knew I had been there, but for the life of me couldn't get the grey matter to click in !!!! As Itinerant teachers with Mt Isa School of the Air, Barb and I visited clients here each year for 4 years....1997/2000. Some of the old buildings that remain were used as accommodation for the cattle station that now occupies the lease. Back then you could still drive around the deserted streets of what used to be the uranium mining town of Mary Kathleen, situated some 60/70 km east of Mt Isa You're right, Humpty. Many people drive right past it without even knowing it was there!
