Hi all,
I have recently been asked to reproduce logo/stickers for forum members to complete their restoration projects.
It should be noted that vinyl stickers will not stick permanently to anything that has been painted with water-based acrylic paint.
They will stick to bare aluminium or any surface painted in enamel (as most caravans were...take note Cobber ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D).
If you do go down the in-correct path of painting your project in that modern product called plastic, water-based paint, you will need to get a signwriter to brush your logo for you.

DAGGSEY !You've given me a great idea for another exciting "Collectibles Thread" "REGO LABELS I HAVE"......( I paid for 'em so I'm keeping them ) Have to admit my collection is not well cared for and..... it didn't start until 1994... not long after the first peel and stick labels came to the NSW RTA..... and I do concede they are not known for being trend setters and ...... I think Vic might have had them a few years before that, but who cares Cobber. Sorry about this thread of yours mate but......... at least we're keeping it alive

Interesting idea for a collectible thread Cobber, like you I always keep my old labels since the peel & stick came in. Prior to that the transfer types were a bit hard to reclaim and keep, in the latter years of their use when they had interesting pictures like the Opera House, Queen Victoria Building and Parkes Telescope then I always managed to keep one 'unused' from the two trailers and four cars I was registering. I've still got a Bicentenary label on my 37 tourer, covered of course to keep it legal.
For the historically minded then the attached item from 1932 gives details of the introduction of labels in N.S.W.
And for those that lived with the transfer type, who could forget the annual chore to remove the old label, easy enough with a scraper and acetone I always found yet it seemed to perplex many to the extent that special 'tools' were sold to help remove them. Should try and find one and send it to Collectors and see how they go with it.

G'day all, 1946 Dave? That's better than I can do. My best is 1965. Still on the orginal backing paper, but not exactly untouched by the passing of time though: We found the sticker unused and curled up in Son No. 3's first Mini which had a very sad end - got totalled when it was hit from behind and pushed into a parked car on the side of the road. Amazingly the mechanicals and running gear were all OK, as was the bonnet and front windscreen. They are now all in his second Mini which is currently in Dona Ricardo's and my safe keeping. The first car was a 1962 model, and the second one is registered as 1962 in honour of its bonnet, even though it is actually built from Mini bits from various years depending on what took Son No. 3's fancy when he was putting it together. Maybe that makes it a hot rod? Griffin, I certainly remember the dreadful task of removing the old non-vinyl labels. I'd never heard of acetone, so it was a case of trying to soften the thing a bit with water on a sponge, and then scrape, scrape, scrape, scrape with a razor blade. Used to take ages - so much so that you'd put the job off for months until you had no choice. I think the police were a bit more tolerant of an out of date rego sticker than they are now. These days they can be sudden death if you haven't changed the sticker over. When VicRoads brought in the vinyl stickers, I thought they were a fair bit better than sliced bread! Thanks for posting the article about the introduction of stickers. It makes interesting reading. Don Ricardo

G'day George, Thanks for the bit on the introduction of labels in NSW.... and as for the scraper to remove the old transfer type labels after softening them with a wet rag, this is what I had to do the job. And Dave said I suppose you're asking for the oldest sticker ON a vintage caravan aren't you Dave and you know the rules...... we need a photo It is still on Ol' 36 (also covered by an Aussie flag to keep the officials happy) Cobber. Daggsey...... sorry about this thread of yours mate but.... it does live for another day

HI guys I have a 1971 S A transer type disk on my 1975 Holden Ute this was the last time it was registersed prior to being put away in a shed for 25 years. Sorry no photo car is currently in deep storage. In the past I used always a sharp wood chisel to remove these disks. Several years ago a SA disk would not stick to anything even the glass with in a few day they would curl up and fall off. As of 1st july 2011 in SA no disks are issued we no longer have any thing on our vehicles to indercate they are registered SA goverment saving money.

Thanks for rejuvenating this old thread Barny. Now that it is legal to display old labels (if you wish) I can show you the old label that is still on poor old Driftwood, it was still in the holder under all the subsequent labels that had been placed on top of it. If it is the first label she got I have no way of knowing If you use the forums 'search' facility to search for rego labels you'll find some posts where members have shown their labels but haven't put them in this thread, maybe they will now ? Cobber.
