Hi All vintage van freaks around Australia... Especially those of us on the east coast. Well ..... its wintertime 2011..... and we all know what follows winter..... Yup... Springtime.. Thats when a young mans mind turns to other things..... Yup... you guessed it.... A vintage caravanning trip away for a week or so...... Just tow and go... find a few nice overnight stops.... down a few beers... wet ya whistle and your appetite for camping / caravanning... old school style... pretty simple recipe aye.... Just the thought of being out there.. enjoying the hobby.. enjoying the uncomplicated lifestyle and pace...Soaking up the Beaches... mountains....and little out of the way towns ... Stirs the blood doesnt it. ..................................................................................... Or does it?? After last years tour i was sorta wandering if it is worthwhile running another tour this year??? Sure .. everyone that went seemed to enjoy themselves.... A few things where not quite right... too many Kilometres each day was one that stuck in my mind. Other things like dog friendly parks are important... that can split the travelling group up at the end of the day. All these things rolling around in my head .. Add to that the "quietness"of the NSW group this year, and i am left sorta thinking maybe we should give it a rest this year ?? If we where to run a east coast spring tour this year it would be a southern point start... Bega or Eden... sticking to the coast... Moruya.. bermagui... Uladulla.. Kiama etc...?? So... maybe the Victorians can have a bit of input here...? How many Mexicans would commit to coming on the tour if we ran one.... Would there be any more enthusiasm shown by the NSW crew than what there has been for the NSW getaways so far this year.?? Would the QLD guys and guyettes be prepared to travel almost to the Vic border to start a tour and end up back at coledale on the Friday of the Coledale gathering?? Anyway... sorry for waffling ....I suppose The best way to gauge the interest /enthusiasm for another tour is to let you guys reply to this thread and .. If it appears that people still wanna go see Australias east coast in springtime then we can start bouncing ideas.... van parks etc around.. Cheers Reddo

Hiya Reddo.....well,you know we'll be there, can't speak for any of the other sleepy types down this way ;D, (although Larry doesn't seem to mind a bit of travelling , so maybe we can get him on board and maybe Jennison too.....)...and we didn't have a problem with the Kilometer thing on the last tour , it is a tour after all and touring generally means...touring..... ;D. Be happy if we didn't end up at Coledale as early tho.....no offence to the locals.... We highly recommend this event to anyone who likes to get the best out of their van experience , nothing quite as much fun as the driving, sightseeing and 'van park nights with all your friends.....come on you guys....put your hands up!..... ;D ;D

Sorry guys.. I was focussing on weather not to run the event... Doug.... If we do go ahead with the tour it would start on Saturday 8th of October just before the NSW kids go back to school on Monday10th October and run through to arrival at Coledale Beach Camping Reserve after lunch on Friday14th That way the tourers get a couple of mornings to sleep in and relax without having to pack up and get on the road again ...as is the case with the tour most days
Coledale is always the weekend after NSW school goes back and some of the vint vanners arrive early during that week as it is part of thier annual Family holiday.
As always anyone wishing to break from the tour and motor on up to coledale early are/will be welcome to do so.
Also anyone not wanting to travel as far south as Eden or Bega can nominate where they will catch up with us on the way north....no hard and fast rules about travelling with the tour group.
We usually have 2 days at the start point ... that gives people travelling there Friday night after work.... saturday ...and sunday to do the hard yards to get to the start point.
I would probably get down to Moruya or a bit further on the saturday and head for Bega or Eden on the sunday.
Hope this clarifies a few points for those considering going on the east coast tour if we decide to go ahead with it this year.
Reddo

Ok ,...... Ok.. Ok.... nuff said The ECST is on again then.. Here is a rough draft... The locals can advise us of any problems with the route we will be taking and we can zig zag around to avoid the steep or dangerous bits. Dont have van parks sorted yet.. have to check for dog friendly etc but at least this a rough draft of the towns we might stay in along the way... Saturday and Sunday .. 8th and 9th Oct.. Stay at Eden.... Monday ...10th (day 3) Eden to Tathra .. via...merimbula.. Candelo...Bemboka...Bega Tues... 11th .. day 4 Tathra to Moruya....via coast road to Bermagui.. (back to hwy) Cobargo...Narooma.... Bodalla....Moruya ( are hounds allowed at the Moruya River view van park..love this park ) Wednesday 12th .. day 5 Moruya to Sussex inlet via ...Moruya heads...Tomakin...( back to hwy) Batemans Bay.. Uladulla... Sussex inlet Thursday 13th....day 6 Sussex Inlet to Kiama ( either kendals or the other park up on the headland).. via.. Nowra.. bomaderry ..( turn off hwy) shoalhaven heads.. Gerroa.. Gerringong. ( back to hwy) ....Kiama Friday ..14th Day 7 Kiama to Coledale .. arrive around lunchtime. So... there ya go.. i am after some input from the indigenous types from the areas we are heading to... Whats the best parks??.. dog friendly?? We can sort out whats to do and see along the way later on. Just wanna get something roughed out early so we can start looking at bookings etc. Ya can see there is n where near as much driving involved each day as there was last year. This is partly due to the options open to us as we travel up the coast.. if we hang a left anywhere we will end up on top of the snowy mountains and then have to find a way back down.. so .. better with short hops and time to enjoy the south coast while we are in each park ..... a fair bit of this route is the same way we went back in 2008. I still reckon there is plenty to see and do.. or just plain kick back and suck in the ocean air whenever we stop... Its all good.. .. anywhere vintage van touring is better than where you are sitting right now.... Regards Reddo Dunno

hi reddo
you know we have a bit of a thing about kendall's, but it's a gazillion times better than the other one on the hill and won't cost any more, either.
plus it's a dog friendly park as long as it's not in one of the peak seasons.
tell them geoff and jude sent you and you'll only have to pay about 10% more than the going rate.
geoff 'n jude
ps. if you mention that you're doing a vintage van type stop-over, it'll only cost you about another 10%.
like my dear old grandpa used to say "cheap at half the price."

Hi Reddo, Another great little spot you might like to consider for the East Coast Tour is the Beachcombers Holiday Park which is located at Potato Point near Bodalla. It's a great spot, no power, but good facilities including a little cafe, good camp kitchen and wallabies hopping all around the joint. It feels like quite an out of the way spot, but is not hard to get to. Cruz knows a bit about it. Might provide somewhere a bit different to stay on the Tour. It's always struck me as an "East Coast Tour type of place". Don Ricardo

I know the park at Potato Pt, (actually nthn end of spud beach on blackfellows pt). It may well have changed rules but we better check whether dawgs are allowed. Otherwise a fantastic spot, small, secluded and right on the beach. Cheeseman and bowlo club just down the road and a great mexican restuarant in Bodalla as well. Practically grew up there, my parents had a coast house on spud pt for 30 yrs but to the families sorrow my father sold it unannounced when he first got cancer. jennison

Add to that list the bodalla cheeseman. I don't mean the old factory, (If it's still open it was sorry touristy waste of space) there is an excellent cheese maker/supplier 200 yds off the highway on potato pt rd, top prices and amazing cheeses

Okay, we're in! Sure we can fit it in between our other "engagements". Lyn is a marriage celebrant and just has to be in Brisbane sometime soon after the 15th so should work out well. By the way, if anyone wants to get married or renew their vows - feel free to contact Lyn - we gotta earn some bucks to stay on the road

Another new cheese place is now open in Bodalla. On the highway. Just building a new cheese factory as well. The old place has been closed for years. Should also mention the Bodalla Bakery. Wood fired ovens excellent pies and cakes. The killer whale museum at Eden is also a interesting spot. Perhaps a shed in Moruya may be worth a look. Cruz

Okey Dokey.. Now that NSW has the Bleakheath vint van weekend behind us ( arent we lucky we wherent up there Tuesday night when the big winds flattened the 100 year old pines etc...) .... its time to focus on the east coast tour. I will give the thread a bump every now and again through to aroud the end of August and see if we get any more starters. By about then we should be getting seriuos about what van parks where gunna "invade"each day. Have had a few good suggestions as to parks down the coast to stay at... General concensus is... They dont have to be 5 star . Can get by with out internet access. Definitley have to allow pooches. A good camp kitchen is highly desirable... even one with walls would be good after what we seen at Katoomba and Blackheath A manager that understands what ... "Group booking"means to us. Beach frontage would score extra points. Open fireplace would be a winner too..... So.. if ya know if this sort of rarity in this day and age.... please post its whereabouts here and we can make some enquires about an overnight stay there... Getcha thinkin caps on Tourists..... its you holidays ... so make sure ya have plenty of say in whats doing. Regards Reddo

Hi, Anyone heading south to Eden would be welcome in my backyard Friday Night. I finsh at 5.30 but only have to open the gate and you can set up. Think the riverbreeze will be to go on the way north, just next door has a better bar than my place, Good tucker too. Cruz
