Hi All There was some talk on a seperate thread about the reasons for not being able to go to Munmorah this year. We eventually settled on Blacksmiths Caravan Park near Swansea... Lake Macqaurie. Those that have indicated they are coming along on the weekend of May 20/21/22 are...
Geoff and Jude Reddo Cobber MRFJ55 Colin and Sue John and Pam Daniels ( 26/4/20011).
Not sure if dogs are allowed. It would pay the dog owners to phone the park and confirm a yes or no on that question before committing to coming along. The park requires a deposit equivelant to 1 nights stay before the end of April.
Anyone else replying will have their name added to this post. As a matter of courtesy to the park managers could you please reply here before Good friday . Regards Reddo

Just giving this message another bump to bring it into the past 40 posts. Only 4 or 5 for NSW May get together??? The irony is We shifted this outing from Munmorah because we thought we would get the usual in excess of 12 attending Munmorah and wanted everyone to be able to come along to Blackys: . I have phoned John at Munmorah and told him we wont be coming, so.... Blacksmiths it is folks. Please show an expression of interest here ASAP' Regards Reddo

Thats a shame about the dogs. Funny how we can find baby sitters for the weekend .... but the animals can be a bit of a problem and hence become a major stumbling block in the decision making process. Sorry no campfires guys.... that luxury is becoming very rare in established caravan parks nowadays.... OHS.. public liability.. fire harard near annexes .. drunks burning emslves.... the list goes on. We where fortunate to have a fire at Gresford as it is a camping reserve.... Wont be so lucky at Blackheath in sub zero temps either.... council park... no fires. Its a pity we cant have 1940-1970s camping rules and conditions nowadays aye....aaaahhhhh how life was simpler back then. Sorry the date doesnt suit you Dave. Ketchup somewhere later in the year. Spoke with John and Pam Daniels the other night... they might be able to make it to Blacksmiths too.. will here from them msoon no doubt. Regards Reddo

Latest fishing report for Swansea / Blacksmiths states they are clubbing the fish back into the water along the breakwall.. bring rods and reels. 2 fisherman taken by 5KG bream... .. would i lie??? If the scaley types go off the boil by May 20th there is a fishermans co-op about 2 mins down the road.... or.. an excellent feed at Swansea RSL right on the edge of the channel... PLEASE CONSIDER.. and act accordingly... Hurry sites are filling up.. ..........................slowly Reddo

hi reddo
well, i reckon we'll still have a good weekend anyway.
what's wrong with all these ns welshmen - have we forgotten what a good time it is to get away and have a bit of fun.
might bring the boule set up and play some 'old mens games' to pass the time away.
(maybe stick with munmorah next year and not worry about the 'excess numbers' that might miss out.)

Hi G&J The irony of it is that i looked for somewhere else to hold this years May get together because previous years have seen more than 12 vans turn up at Munmorah. With respect to what John the caretaker told me about how stringent ( or should that read "stingey" )The local council is about enforcing the 12 site rule .. powered or unpowered 12 in total , i figured we best not put him in a position where the whole park could get shut down... especially when there is so mant ex Power station employees that still enjoy family weekends there camping . If the word got out that the vintage caravan mob had caused the closure of the park it would do irrepairable damage to the good reputation we have biult up over the passed 7 years with the public. Wont hurt to have a bit of a change this year ( as we are doing with Katoomba to Blackheath for a trial ) . Next year we will simply announce.. "Whos coming to Munmorah... 1st 12 replies are in the Bikkie tin" As to what weekend.. well is suppose if it is a critical issue for some then we will move it back to the weekend after mothers day. Had a pm from Humpty.. they are off on an extended holiday and wont be able to make it to Blacksmiths . Not sure where the rest of the fobbergross brigade are this year. Still havent heard from John and Pam Daniels .. They always enjoyt a break from managing thier businesses at Muswellbrook......might give em a call today and pester em while they arent at work... Regards Reddo

Hi All I have just organised friday arvo off work so should hit Blacksmiths around 3 ish. Anyone coming up from the south should take the same exit off the F3 you would take when going to Munmorah. Head straight through the doyalson traffic lights instead of turning right to go to Koala park Munmorah. Follow the pacific hwy for about 15k to Swansea. Head over the Swansea bridge ( The entrance to Lake Macquarie). Get in the right lane...Travel about 1k and hang a right at the first set of lights. The van park is about 500 metres up on the right just before the surf club/beach... Might get a bit of a cruise organised for saturday up around the top end of the lake and up to Mt Sugarloaf lookout...about 3/4 hour drive or .. in around Newcastle harbour and the beaches... ( traffic lights ..Yuck ) Cant wait, cant wait... Look for this.... C ya there Reddo

Hi Cobber... No worries mate. catch ya friday arvo...
I will have to cut my weekend short.. Head home saturday late arvo.. Trishas sister collapsed at work last wednesday. They took her to John Hunter Hospital.here in Newcastle.. Large blood clot deep in her brain... Flew her by helicopter straight to Royal North shore Hospital and done emergency surgery to relieve presure on the brain.
News today is she hasnt improved much .. slipping in and out of conciousness..paralised down the left side. So.. I am driving Trish, her mum and partner down to the hospital on sunday. Her mum has been up and down to sydney nearly every day by train. Todays news has tipped Trish over the edge and she wants to get down and see Kath .
So.. will cherish the friday nightand saturday with you guys at Blacksmiths and look forward to happier times a bit later on aye.

Hi all Just had 2 great days with the vint van crew at Blacksmiths Beach .Only a small roll up of 5 vans Cobber and Yvonne Geoff and Jude Col and Sue George and Barb ... and me. Mustanpal - Cliff and Ingrid came down with their sunliner for a 1/2 day out on saturday ...' and .... John and Pam Daniels had a late start from Muswellbrook on Saturday so booked a cabin....jumped in the E type Jag and flew down on saturday arvo. Got there just before i left. Good to see them make the effort.... Love that car.... Anyway... back to friday lunchtime... I arrived just in time for lunch with The cobbers and G&J... they had run the prawn net across the creek behind the park and picked up a nice feed of prawns the night before... ... Geoff insisted on sharing a coupla nice crabs that managed top get tangled up in the catch..... ;D Not long after we had finish the gormet lunch the Griffins.. George and Barb arrived with thier Velox towing the Plympic Debonair.....nice combo.... We yelled out to Cobber that they where reversing but he must of had his hearing aid turned off and .. WAMMO.. straight over him...... While he was waiting for the ambulance he managed to locate a loose bolt that was causing a rattle in the towbar. . All better now. I had a look at Cobbers original tow coupling on the swamp van.... He tells me it 100% genuine........ ... and i believe him. Went for a walk up to the surfclub for a squizzy.. 9 miles of beach up to Redhead bluff. No beach driving permit required......... Mother-in-law thought it was cool too...... Here is a few l;ate arvo shots around the camp.... Around 4-ish i check my phone for missed calls and Maurie MR FJ55 had sent me some very upsetting news...... To be continued......... Reddo
