Mine is Gertie.....being a little German gal, Gertrude came to mind. Gert is also a bit of a nickname in our family, so Gertie it is.

Well just before I actually get out of this site & stop putting off doing some work on the newbie......it needs a name! Now the some family members have already dubbed it a name after several were thrown at me when we met for dinner last night in Brunswick........ "Son of Colin".....no "Rose the Rambler (you know Ramblin' Rose)....no it's a boy according to the prev owner Then after a few ales/vino's...... "Alliphant"....no "Sardine...cause it's like a sardine can)...no "Kipper"........no...that's your nickname (our daughter who is petite) "The CAN"......definitely not....silly boy Then....after much laughter & derogatory names......maybe just maybe Doyle came up with this.... "ROY"......possibility.....maybe.....thinking on this ROY THE RAMBLER............... What do you think......... ?

Great discussion thread ATOG. Love seeing all the pictures, names & themes of VV's. I reckon the owning of a vintage van and the naming of it, is nothing like it, IT'S TOPS. Here's mine This is my 1969 Olympic Fibreglass Debonair caravan named "KAZUE" which means first blessing & inspiring Kazue came about from a Kimmidoll doll named this which has a peacock wrapped around on the front of the doll, so it's an all peacock inspired theme when i go glamping with the Glamper Gals www.glampergals.com/#This is my latest acquistion, which I'll be picking up early next week, it just all fell into place like it was meant to be, so possible it should be named "Destiny" or the other name I was tossing around is "Pixie" given it's out in the Rainforest with all the fairies. Destiny or Pixie, what do you think it should be? Cheers Tory (Torrich) :0)

Hi folks Total newbie here. I have just acquired a 1966 Viscount Duralvan and I call her Peace. Originally I was just going to keep her at home unregistered but after going through this forum and the Classic Caravans forum, I have decided to register her and will have to learn to tow her. I have never towed anything in my life so it is going to be a steep learning curve!! I can't seem to add the pic here.....apologies. [/img]

Don't worry I'm in the same boat having never towed anything myself. I'm getting closer to rego so I'm thinking about getting some help to tow it up to vic roads on the day. Don't want to embarrass myself in the car park...

Thanks ATOG,
The Debonair is so great, I've had so many compliments and two offers of people wanting to buy it.
I've had a few trips in it now and it's looking great, just needs a new paint job next year, I reckon....there's really not too much more I can do with other than enjoy it.
I'm also mastering the reversing and getting better each time, it's pleasing when you can do things yourself.
Geez, four years that's a long time between drinks LOL
I love the naming part, I get the feel for the name generally within a week and ask people their opinions as you can get some good stuff off other people also.
I've just bought another Olympic which I believe is a Riviera, I'm off to Qld this week to pick it up, me & mum are doing a girls road trip...will be fun and I'm excited....meeting Bob on the way back down and he's going to check the van out and let me know the details of it.
Cheers Tory (Torrich - first glass, now a second glass)

Dear KFisher,
I was the same with the reversing thing, however I just keep doing it myself and practiced, you shouldn't feel embarrassed it all apart of the learning......I'm a female and have taught myself on how to do it and if I can do it, you can too.
I suggest that you go with your caravan to a quiet carpark or factory area and practice, take some witches hats and reverse in all different types of situations and that way you get to know the van and your car at the same time.......believe me, you'll get the hang of it.
The courses are also good too, however they are around the $450 - $500 mark and not everyone can afford that type of money.
Cheers Tory (Torrich - first glass)

still utterly hopeless at naming inanimate objects :/ vans one and two now gone to new homes, probably with names, van#3 sits here waiting for a moniker. van #4 on horizon (fingers crossed), and will likely meet same fate. nameless. imagination isnt one of my things perhaps you could run a naming comp - post some pics and get the members here to suggest appropriate names for you - winner takes all ...the glory

Hi recently acquired an Olympic Debonair which will be towed behind my Mustang (Both have no name). I was thinking about a few options to call my van. so far on the list is Carriage (horse and carriage) Power (Horse power) Dewey ( After Dewey Bunnell songwriter for "America" who wrote "I've been through the desert on a horse with no name") www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPaSDpJhqY0America (America rides on the back of a mustang) Jockey,Saddle (Sits on the back of a horse) Horse, Pony (Mustang is also known as a Pony car, so I would have a horse and pony) Trails (Pony trails) Any other suggestions, i am sure after a few more Rumbos I will come up with some more.

Our caravan is a 1968 Tabbert . We call it CHOW. Cubby House On Wheels. The caravans history is an interesting one. The original owners were German but lived and loved the town we live in. Tathra. Their eldest daughter met a German fellow and married him. They moved to the mother country and then had a child. The first grand child. So as any grandparent would they traveled to Germany, bought a new Mercedes and a Tabbert caravan. They traveled extensively throughout Europe and over to England. Their younger daughter traveled with them. After 18 months they returned home to Tathra with the car and van. The van was use occasionally, but mostly sat by the house and was used occasionally for visitors. Until one day when Kathy and Anthony came along and inquired about the Tabbert. It took almost a year to convince the youngest daughter (now an old lady) that our intentions were good. We took over 18 months to restore CHOW. But it was all worth it. We have not seen another one anywhere.

Skippy Deluxe
My Viscount Ambassador (E1613) is named Skippy Deluxe. When completed (soon) will be well appointed, with an Australiana theme.

I bought JFK , the aptly named Kennedy from Lyn and Will in Western Australia (nearly 6 years ago now), in honour of my grandma i have renamed her .... Grandma or Libby which was grandmas nickname ... I love thinking of Libby as short for liberator .. cos that is what she does!

As Max now has a new Don to play with, I thought I'd better let him have his name back. Only problem was what to re-name the GlobeTrotter? Her name was ''Winterwood''. She is known as a 'GoldCoaster' model. Thought of places in QLD that meant something to me & was going to go with 'Burleigh', after where I spent many happy holidays at my Grandparents beach front apartment. Then I remembered the place they lived before retiring to Burleigh Heads. It was at Kenmore & the property was called 'Timburra'. And bingo, sounds like something to with wood, was in QLD & has sentimental meaning. So without further ado, may I introduce;
