Hi all, First we had Vera, our Valiant SV1. Beautiful old darling. Then we discovered Vespas while on our Honeymoon ( wouldn't it be interesting to find out where that phrase actually came from?. Des or myself didn't have any honey on our moons on our, spell of relief after our Wedding - l know boring) in Thailand. The vespa was always going to be a boy, named Vernon even before his conception. Unfortuatlly that chapter hasn't come to fruit,(yet) ,however our delightful VV Vernon has. Isn't it great how a car or van can take on a poisionality of it's own once you give it a name. People always used to laught at me when l named Vera (she was my first car), however it seems l'm in good company now. Funny enough alot of them now name their cars. Des and Kel. ;D

Hi all, Still thinking about a name for my Propert. Have been considering "Penelope P Propert" (P for Pitstop). Who remembers The Wacky Races. Gidget the Globetrotter has been feeling a little neglected, tucked away in the corner. Cruz

Hi guys, troy and I havnt done much to the outside of the bondy for the last coupla-months as we are selling the house and moving onto 5 acres in gympie (hopefully) as I (nicole) need a shed to continue my VV collecting !!!! But.......Ive been making some changes to her interior, and its slowing morfing back into a '60's franklin, as apposed to the 'hot-rod theme thingy' that the previous owner had started, so she has therefore been given a name........ "Miss Frankie Lynn" will hopefully be back on the road (and almost finished) by the end of 2009 !!!!! P.s love the variety and creativity of all the names/ designs of the beautiful VV's out there !!! trub73

Hi Dave,
Its funny how a vans name happens.
We've rebuilt 3 now.
The First one, a 10' Purdon , Boots immediately named "Groovin" after her favorite song.
The second one, the Sunliner, has never been given a name. Nothing even suggests itself.
The third one, Lucille, was named by Boots as we towed it home. Names stuck, & forever the van will be Lucille.
Strange isn't it, how something simple like naming a van is really out of our control. Its sorta like the van tells you what it wants to be known as???

G'day admin team Went looking for this thread today......now that "Lady Madonna" has gone, I need to seriously name my Globetrotter.....didn't want to tread on anyones toes, but need to come up with something original. Any chance this thread can be locked under another section so that anyone doing caravan name research (as opposed to caravan brand names) can do so relatively easily. It also makes very interesting reading as to how people came up with names originally. I'm not sure where you would lock it (Members Photo Albums? ), but it is obvious from the number of views the original thread had that it generated some interest. Just a suggestion ;D ;D ;D Daggsey

Hey Daggsey,
Kustombruce's suggestion is a pretty good one.
My suggestion comes out of the following thought pattern:
Globetrotter = around the world = around the world in eighty days = Phileas Fogg. So Phileas Fogg is my suggestion. An alternative is Passepartout, who was Phileas Fogg's French valet in 'Around the World in Eighty Days' by Jules Verne.
A bit tortured?? Yeah, maybe...but at least you'd have a talking point: "Where on earth did you get that name?"

Thanks Kustombruce and DR.....some great suggestions there ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I wasn't really looking for ideas, but now you've both got my thought patterns moving in a different direction.....just didn't want to use a name that someone else had used (e.g Matilda, Marvin, The Ritz, Doris, Li'l Bondy etc...). I've had the (un-named) Globe for 5 years now, so a few more days thoughts on the subject isn't going to leave me with sleepless nights . (Methinks that last statement might be a contradiction in terms ) Cheers for the input, Daggsey

Hi All,
Just found this thread and thought it an interesting read. I am pleased to see there are lots of people who name their cars and vans. For the record we have:
Leah, the 2004 Berlina. Actually this is the second Berlina we have had the first a company car (stayed at the company when I left) was called LINA as in Ber-LINA, but LEAH is close enough.
Zack, the 1990 Integra. He is a 4 door Integra, a Japanese import we bought while we lived in New Zealand for 2 years about 10 years ago. His number plate was ZK 4625, so Zack seem appropriate. We still have him with us.
Buster, the 1989 Corolla. He is the learning car for my 16 year old twin daughters and used to be my wife's Grandma's car. When we first got him he suffered from flat batteries and a few other ailments and was often broken so we called him BUSTER.
Daisy the 1947 Morris 10. She is bright yellow (from a previous owner) so Daisy seemed to fit.
Amy-Lee the 1936 Morris 25. Being a very up market car for a Morris (more expensive than a 20hp Bentley in 1936) we needed an upmarket high faluting hyphenated name. Amy-Lee we liked best.
All of this leads me to CURTIS, the Franklin Freeway. The plan is to tow him with AMY-LEE and so together they will be AMY-LEE CURTIS. Named after the actress Jamie Lee Curtis.......
So there you go. There have been many other cars in our time, all have had names, I find it helps when I am working on the car/van and things are not going well, I have a name to use after the swear words!!

G'day, After much deliberation on the name for the Globe, the list was as follows: Aliteration:Gloria Gertie Gladys Gina (daughter of the previous owner) Others:, alphabetically, Agnes Ada (my grandmothers name) Julia ( )...s'pose like the Globe, she is South Australian (sort of)......also John Lennon's mothers name Lazarus (bought back from the dead ) Maude Merle Murial Preema Donna (before Madonna ) Petal Prudence (Beatles connection) Priscilla (Elvis connection) Rose Stixenstones (wood & aluminium ) Decided to settle on aliteration and good old simplicity...."Gladys"...had sort of settled on that before Reddo's comment on Lady Madonna's build thread....thanks Reddo for your confirmation....dunno if that's gunna be a curse or not ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Daggsey

Hello. Here' my first post in the forum. I have a Caravelair which was named Armagnac when it was launched in 1961. My own model was built in 1969. I decided that it would keep its name. Armagnac is both a spirit and a hilly county in the south-western part of France. In the 60's, Caravelair Sud-Aviation couldn't build aircrafts for a while, and they decided to make caravans in order not to fire workers. They gave to the different models the names of French counties. As soon as I can, I'll open a thread and put a few pics on line.

My three year old son just named ours...SNIFFY! (with QLD's weather at the moment...it has a bit of a "whiff" to it). The three females in our family are tossing up "Bella", "Tina", "Candy" etc...but I think "SNIFFY" has a nice ring to it.

Have thought of a few names for my NZ made Munro but will simply stick with Munro. That way it will suit nicely with the Mitsubishi engined Hunter. "Munter with the Munro" A definate multicutural combination. Scottish car with Japanese engine and New Zealand Caravan carrying a Chinese sharpei dog. Rollydog

Hello there. I am new to this forum as a member, but have been visiting and reading since 2009. Thought I'd share my van name as a starting place... ' sunny' is her name. Fairly unoriginal I guess as she is a Sunliner, but also named because when we picked her up the owners had spray painted the keys bright yellow (along with all the assoc tools in the box incl hammer, spanners etc). Cheers
