G'day to all Mr (or Mrs) Fixits
Has anyone repaired the element (both board and wire) on "old "toasters.
Complete elements seem to be no longer available so i need new mica board and resistance wire. (but i don't need a new toaster)
Thanks. Phil

G'day again.
After missing out on last weeks final ebay bidding for said $10 element ( via daughters home computer with sudden "flat battery and no power cable handy" problem i offer this solution to anyone in need of toaster repairs.
1. Search the net for required materials, find the only one, which is in India, and get no reply. 2. Buy a new Russel Hobbs retro toaster and forget the fixing. 3. Go to the local rubbish tip shop, buy some "broken" toasters for a couple of dollars, take them apart and eventualy find the best fit.
I chose Number 3 (much to Louise's disgust) Cheers. Phil.
(hope its fixed before SEQ Canungra Xmas event - but if not, i will just get an unpowered site)

G'day Phil, Having seen the exquisitely decorated interior of your Franklin, all Louise's handiwork, I feel it might be useful to give you some "technical advice" on how to keep your caravanning trips happy... Option 1: Buy the Russell Hobbs toaster Option 2: Buy the Russell Hobbs toaster Option 3: Don't even THINK about having some crappy old toaster in the van - I don't care if it IS a "period toaster" and we are trying to recreate the theme of the '70s - It will come in the van over MY dead body! (Am I right, Louise...or am I right?! ) Nice job getting the toaster sorted though, Phil. ;D cheers, Al.

Ok boys & girls - Re Toaster Elements. ISTRA Elements 71 Cawarra Rd Caringbah NSW 9525-2935. This company can supply the element as a finished product which will cost X amount of dollars. However, at a cheaper price (given the measurements) they can supply just the wire & or the mica board for a DIY situation. One can of course buy metres of wire & metres of mica board to make multiples or keep as a standby. They are only open Monday to Thursday till 5PM & untill 2PM on a Friday. There is no week-end business. Hope this is of help to others as it was for me given i needed same for my Hecla toasters & heater. Cheers Gordon

Thanks Gordon.
I am going for the DIY option. I think the price of materials will be reasonable. I am surprised that the 10 or so local electrical repairers that i tried cannot supply the materials. Istra do show up in a "yellow pages" search which i didn't think of doing.
G'day Al, Louise will be glad not to use the griller in the oven, which is a pain, but yes, a retro look alike would have been better.
Cheers. Phil.
