Hi Humpyboy
Had another look at your van, and love those tail-lights. It does raise an interesting trivia question. I notice that you have fitted your stop/park lights on top and indicators beneath them. Yet on trailers I have seen and even have, the indicator is on top and the stop/park below. Would you or anyone here know whether there is a "correct" way they should be placed? What about when the lights are fitted horizontally, should the indicator be the closest to the edge of the trailer or can it be closest to the middle of the trailer? I can't find anything about it, so wonder if anyone knows.
Ray

Hi F/F Read that stuff, and the only conclusion I can come to is that there are no rules as to which light goes where (ie on top if fitted vertically or on the outer extremes if fitted horizontally). I have a vague memory of a caravan repairer telling me that what I suggest above is the correct way to instal, but it IS rather ambiguous (remember, I don't have a degree in tail-light installation ;D ) Ray

G'day Ray, You can also look HERE, starting at page 7. It gives distances from the ground etc. etc. for each type of light and so long as those distances are met it doesn't seem to matter who's on top. Cobber. Disclaimer..... This is not to say I approve of the permanent fitting of external lights to caravans that didn't have them when they were originally built. ;D ;D ................................

Thanks cobber. Now have a look at pages 10 and 11! They do show the indicator either on top when vertical or closest to the outside when horizontal. So could it be that there is a rule of some sort?
Ray
Ps - sorry humpyboy, going right off topic here

Hi Australian Goverment ......VSB1.....13.14 Grouping of rear lamps Caravan..... Indicators on the bottom of the light group ;D ;D ;D Trailer.......Indicators on the top in the light group ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Rear position (side) lamps, stop lamps, direction indicator lamps, registration plate lamps and retro-reflectors may be grouped into the same units, as long as their individual requirements are met. The following are examples of acceptable arrangements. www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/vsb1/vsb_01_b.aspx#13Cheers f/f ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

IMHO does it really matter what position the lights are in? I would place more importance on them actually working wouldn't you?

If I were a copper and was assigned the job of pulling over all those with non working trailer lights I'd be a VERY VERY busy man, the number of people that tow stuff with no lights amazes me, and if your wondering I travel 120 -130 K's round trip to work every day so I see a few

Well I've had a couple of productive weekends work thus far so onto the photos. I also visted www.reddotelinternational.com.au Downloaded the neccesary information and made myself a wooden water tank. pretty neat hey Heres how it works. First you remove the lid. Then slide the front up and out. and remove tank for filling. So whos up for looking at my draws? Wot no one interested!! Oh well here they are any how. Closed. And open. This is where I finished tonight but things seem to be moving along quite well seeings I'm designing on the fly (using a very tiny pencil ;D)

G'day humpyboy, I'm blowed if I know how you got the fly to stay still long enough! I love the work you are doing. Funnily enough, I too took notice of what reddo did with his water tank, and made note to incorporate something like that in my project. We'd better shut up or we'll be forking out royalties to him. cheers, Al.

Looks good Derk, although the water tank could have been pressurized with some CO2 and turned into a BEER tank! Cheers Doug.

Thanks all for the comments on my efforts I'm NO tradie just doing the best that i can. Don R, Dinner at Cowra?what do you prefer on your toast? Doug, I think by the time we get 20 Lt's in there gravity should do fine ;D Gordon, the brass tap I thought was a must, in my opinion it looks old enough to have been there all it's life even if the tank is wooden Al, I'm gunna have to araldite the bloody fly to a piece of 4 x 2, got out in the shed this arvo and fitted a couple of pieces pinus radiata when I noticed my temporary marks of the hatch that can be seen in the second last photo, then realised that I hadn't allowed for the internal lining meaning that the hatch when closed wont allow enough room for the draw fronts when fitted so the draws will have to come out and get shortened yet again so that I can put fronts on them without punching holes in the hatch every time I close it, hang on that's only going to happen once isn't it? Hmmmm The draws were donated to me by Don257 and needed to be cut down anyway so second time round should go quicker now that I've done it once Oh well we live and learn, first time I've done this so I'm excused aren't I? (please)

Just a quick update on my progress, have decided not to post pics, if you wanna see it come to Cowra ;)have fitted my bench top with a step down section under the water tank so that I will be able to get a pot or kettle under it for filling had enough of my special formica/laminex left over to fit a splash back to match the bench top, draw fronts fitted but yet to finish off, made my fly screens for the main doors today, another lick of paint and they are ready to fit, so that's were I'm at today, departure date gets closer every day but I think I should sneak it in by the time I'm ready to depart for COWRA not that I'm looking forward to it ;)see you all then
