Hi all, just a quick note to bring you up to date with what's (not) happening, since my last post I have only managed to line the inside but I have been putting a lot of thought into my lighting for the interior and have come up with 12 volt, that's it I've no idea where to look or what to look for in regards to lights, I will however go with your suggestion Leigh and get me a jump pack as well as installing a couple of 240 volt outlets, once that is out of the way and all the wires are in place I can get on and line the outside.

G'day Humpy, ;D Nice work ;D ;D ;D ;D I have finally got a chance to go through to read your thread It seems I could have saved some brain power if I had read it first ;D, but it's good to know that it's basically the same process with these old VV's... fix the rot I had spoken with my sparky mate and we had worked out that we wanted to run a 12/240v system as well, with the inverter system with a battery back-up. We also discussed LED lighting as the run a lot cooler than halogens (heat and wood, not too good ). Although more expensive. What are you running with? Any way This is my first attempt (practice) and can hopefully not my last, I love this project. ;D, I didn't even think about bote cote, I should have my first job out of school was a boat builder, but after reading your thread it reminded how good that stuff is, I think I will do the underside floor to seal it with it. I guess they can only rot if the water gets in. So I will plagiarize that idea ;D ;D ;D Jarrah - Overkill... oh yeah... but nice...... ;D Anyway keep up the great job, knowing that I will steal all your good ideas. ;D ;D ;D Cheers Nugget ;D

Hi there Nugget and thanks for your comments, your not doing to bad a job yourself, starting your first van resto the way we have is a bit daunting but we can be proud of the end result hey here are a couple of pictures that I took today, the first shows the internal lining which still need some work to finish it off and the second is of the lights I will fit inside. Sorry about the quality of the second shot but you get the idea.

Hey humpy, ;D , Nice retro light fittings...Cool . I want it! I need it! I must have it NOW!!!! ;D ;D ;D oh and It's really important! ;D sometimes works! ;D Thanks for the info on the oregan, that was my first guess too! Wonder what a 20mm X 410mm X 2m slab of oregan would be worth if you could get it? My plan is do exterior after wiring, insulation, sealing exterior of interior walls and frames, fridges and fittings all fixed so that I clad in single sheets with no holes ;D ;D ;D. But as you know I am flying by the seat of my pants as well. lol ;D ;D ;D A mate of mine works in this factory that makes water regulator gates for the channels up here. They line these with a really dense foam that they use in aircraft wings. He said I can go through his work bins and as take as much as I like.(sizes 20mm - 100mm thick big sheets), this will be pretty good insulation. ;D Any progress on the electrics? Keep up the awesome work mate ;D

Hey Nugget, the lights are from Carac, I think that they are a Camden product so if you search around you should find them in other places also, I spent the day running most of my electrics and have made good progress, a little more work to do and then I can think about some exterior cladding, will be a big day when that happens, as for the cost of your lump of Oregon . I also have seen Janorma and what a find she was, an absolutely beautiful van, not the sort of thing that comes along everyday, does it humpty2 ? Thanks for the pic of he kitchen but a closer look will reveal that it is a Sports Minor not that it matters as I plan to do the kitchen in a more modern style anyhow, that's it for now.

To all those watching this resto I would like to apologize, today I brought home the motor I have been building with my mate for my Ute so I will be concentrating on that project for a while, it's been a long time since we started the rebuild so I am keen to get back into it and get the car on the road, maybe I'll have to start a new thread in "tow cars"dig out all the old pictures of when I started and go from there, would give me something to do at least. Leigh, could you please let me know what size jump pack you use in your sportsman thanks.

Hmm, 1st of August since my last update, it has been a while hasn't it? today I gave up on the car and spent a few hours working on the TD not a lot done but am happy with where it's at now. New shelf at the front. And new cupboard front with new shelf and no doors. Tomorrow back to the car so it can go to the upholsterer soon to have the job completed then mechanic and Auto electrician, AND then it's flat out to the finish on to TD.

Hi Humpy.
I understand the challenges of retoring a car and a van at the same time - and - being a bloke, we can only do one thing at a time!!
Looking forward to your next update!

The reason we blokes do only one thing at a time is because you can't think about two things at the same time, I like my Cars to look like Cars and my Teardrops to look like Teardrops ;D

Hi Humpyboy I've gone back to the beginning of the thread for a read - boy, you sure have come a long way with your Saftee Minor! I'm quite impressed with how much you have achieved this week off work. Clearly you just need to win lotto, so you can keep at it. I see a lot of vans have calico covered in paint or gesso - can anyone enlighten me about this? Was it for looks, or some particular function - seems to often be on roofs. More waterproofing? Great job - and interesting to watch it all come together. When's your next break? Cheers Seeshell

Hi seeshell, I'm not 100% sure but I'm of the understanding that it is a form of waterproofing/sealing the bondwood, I've also done the sides and plan to do the hatch as well only because my tear is a little larger than most and required sheets to be joined so I've decided to do the whole thing just to make sure, I won't really know how well it's going to work till I get it finished and out in the weather , as for my next break that's any ones guess, nothing planned as yet but I've still got lotto tickets for all they're worth, but at least I'm in with a chance if I've got me tickets ;D

Just a quick update on my resto, still chipping away at the hatch, when I feel up to it I'll sneak out to the shed after work for a half hour or so and do a little bit more, at present I'm looking at fitting some of the hardware that I wont be able to get to after I've lined the inside so I've been slowly gluing in blocks for mounting screws etc where needed, there will be the odd removable panel so that I will be able to change light bulbs and the like but will try as best I can to keep them as UN-noticeable as I can. I did ask the question re gas struts but will wait till I have the hatch installed before I make that decision, at least I will have a better idea of the weight I'll be working with. So there you have it, no photos yet but will upload new ones once the hatch is back on.

Hi Derk,
Hard to believe the huge difference from when you first picked it up, until the present time. Congrats again and I really look forward to seeing further photo updates ... particularly when you finally screw on those rare Safetee Minor name plates.
A great job, well done.
