Hi Dennis and Boots. i understand what your saying mate. With all that is going on in 2009 i will have to admitt i reckon i would have been lucky to get the time off to do that trip. I mean sure we could forgo all the other weekend trips away... but...... They are just as much fun as a big trip like the one you had proposed. Lot less travelling on local getogethers and a lot more time relaxing enjoying our vans and everyone elses company. 10th SEQ run is still on the boiler for me in Feb. Back home for a week or 2 and then down to Berry in March. Maybe Canton beach in May. Wintersun ( is Kirra beach van park still a goer??) in June .Katoomba in July and a couple of months non vanning before the tour and Coledale in October. The problem with doing a trial loop of the western QLD trip is that you will have "Been there done that" and wont be too over enthused about going back up there on a tour. I reckon when ya decide ta go we just go and cop what nature and the local road builders throw at us... I Keep sayin' it... "What was good enough for Nan and pop when they where away in the old cars and vans is good enough for me" Even if some of the roads are poop they cant be worse than they where 50 or 60 year ago. Hi Reddo,
Thanks for the reply. Wintersun I've booked 2 sites at Kirra. I got the second site a week or so back, so they still have some sites I think. Got to have Lucille registered by then to fit Daughter & family in ( to sleep at most)
The concerns I have with the Queensland inland is the conflicting reports I get regarding large(sizes, not volume) truck traffic that is supposedly out there on narrow roads, especially in the wet times.
I often enjoy the trip more second time around, so that wont worry me. I'd hate to think how many times I've driven from Sydney to ballina over the last 44 years of driving, but parts of it are still enjoyable. Its like reading a good book over & over. You find new bits of the storey line each time ( at least I do)

JBJ. I was out in Dalby at xmas time., Got no sleep n the van park cos its next to the highway. All night all day the semis drove past in both directions. My drive to toowoomba the next day wasnt great. I was in an old car trying to take it easy at about 85-90 and the semis just about ran me over. But there are plenty of by roads around so if you want to do the trip out there look on the maps. in fact there are some seriously beautiful places off the main highways to be seen Cheers Scoot
