I caught the tail end of the Collectors program Maurie and saw the preview of the van and Kombi for next week. It certainly looks like it will be interesting.
How old do you have to be to remember the PMG using Kombis?

Todd Ian is right, the PMG was Telstra and Australia Post combined and used to exist before the government decided to increase the amount of bureaucracy in OZ by splitting it up. Greg

Thanks Guys, Now I know why it says PMG on all of those pit lids. Sorry for making you feel old Ian. If it makes you feel any better, I can remember when Telstra was called Telecom.

Just a thought on the PMG... I think I may have been too young to remember the PMG using Kombi's but, I do remember Telecom using the old Hiace vans painted orange with white roof and those red Z number plates. They even used to fit a governor to the PMG Kombi's to reduce the Kombi's performance (not that there was much ) Was obviously to slow down the lead footed PMG Technicians. Cheers Greg

HOW FRIGGIN FREAKY!!!!!! Ok just to put this in context: I LOVE aluminium caravans. Recently I was talking to someone who is selling a 14nine Carapark and he told me about Caraparker's van (even sent me a pic of it) and mentioned the just televised "Collector's" show that featured it - so I have been looking forward to it. Anyway, a couple of hours prior to the show, the retrovan family are out for a walk talking about how far we (I) will take this newfound vv obsession, and how we could discover some wonderful old van down any of these streets when suddenly Shar starts hyperventilating............I look in the direction of her smiling gaze and look straight into a shadowy porthole of ....a bloody beautiful Carapark!!!! Neglected yet pristine, right down to its tight fitting windows and Venetian blinds!!! Reckon it might be a 16 footer. Nobody home, but I'll be back - again and again until it is mine.
By the way Caraparker, if you read this, lovely restoration job - so far my two favourite things on this site are your van and your coffee machine. By the way, anything ever come of the monster Carapark in Murray Bridge? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm???

Here it is!!!! Here it is!!!! Here it is!!!! Here it is!!!! Here it is!!!! Here it is!!!! Here it is!!!! Isn't that gorgeous??!! It's 18' (body length) I'm soooooooooo excited!! Nobody home yet, but a note is going under their door this arvo. Can anybody give me any information about these Caraparks? What is the interior layout like? How much do you think this one is worth? Thanks all.

This website was mentioned several times during filming of the carapark segment as being an invaluable resource for those with and aspiring to own a vintage caravan, it, just like the other 20 minutes of "interview" which was edited out!

Retrovan, Mark (global moderator) sent me some info (via snail mail) about caraparks including interior layouts, long before this forum was avalable, also you will find several interior shots of 18" caraparks on the national library of australia website under caravans on the picture search, PS thanks for the good words about my van and coffee machine and good luck with the 18 footer. PPS I don't miss the snide remarks APKAC

Dear APKAC/Greggy/Caraparker,
thanks for the info...any chance I could get a copy of the info Mark sent you please? Not snide remarks, noooooooooo - I know all about how you say what you want, and they present you as they please (editing), and I would never be jealous of your good taste and ability to acquire/restore fabulous things, never.
Is the frig in your van original? And did anything ever come of the huge Carapark in Murray Bridge?
Regards, Tim

I didn't mean you , its just that I once mentioned that Idle chit chat in the Tecnical section was a bit of a pain, I wasn't even the first person on the complaint thread , but my name was the one people remembered from that post and some people kept on making remarks about it and I found it a bit infantile, pity! Anyway the fridge is original, i even have the documentation from the factory, to say that the fridge was converted to gas from Kero by the factory!. The eighteen footer looks wonderful. if you need any help let me know, Mark would be able to email the carapark layouts, better that me Posting copies of Photocopies. I don't look in on this site often, just thought the abc carapark thing would bring some Alloy caravan lovers out of the rotted woodwork so to speak. cheers APKAC

Greg,
Am relatively new here, and haven't seen that stuff - don't think I'll bother searching for it either. Would say may passion is more design than vintage vans per se....although by design I include the the memories and stories knitted in: how things were done, used, made and so on. Seeing some of the stuff you have gathered makes me think we may share more interests than aluminium vans.
Anyway, thanks for the well wishes - I haven't got through the house tenant where the 18 footer resides to the owner yet, but I will persevere. Meanwhile, I would love to show you our Wayfarer.
Would you mind PMing me your email?
Regards, Tim
