hi all thought we'd introduce you to our new towcar. first of all i don't know whether to thank adam (kazandadam) or hate him for letting us know about the clearance auction at campbelltown today, but as a result, we bought this. it's original owner was 'famous' country and western singer and actor, lionel long. it's a 1962 lincoln continental with a 460 ci V8 and 4 speed auto transmission and it's rhd and convertible. the rag top needs some work, but otherwise it's in very good condition and won't take too much to have it registered and running on the road again. the electric top doesn't have a switch at the moment, but that'll be rectified pretty quickly.(ps. the shovel didn't come with the car) anyhow, thanks adam for bringing it to our attention, geoff 'n jude oh! forgot to mention - it's also got a towbar ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi Geoff & Jude.
What a perfect towcar/travelling party car.
Those big cars can tow anything. Now all you need is a 30 foot van.
Good to see it being resurrected like it deserves. 2 acres of big near flat white panels, Jude will be able to polish it in her spare time while Geoff gets a job to keep it in fuel.

thanks for your positive replies fellas. dennis and reddo, you might be right, we'll probably spend a few bucks on petrol, but you can't take it with you, can you? : all the experts reckon that on a daily basis, fuel is the cheapest part of caravaning, what with site fees, food and beer etc, but we might just prove them wrong. now about those texas longhorns clyde, if you can find a pair, we might just put them on (not). guess we'll just settle for the 10 gallon hat reddo suggested. one good thing, if the party won't fit in the 'annex of ill repute', we can always move it into the continental. anyhow, as dennis always says, "it's all good". geoff 'n jude ps. i wanted to stop the bidding but judy urged me on to make 2 more bids before it was ours - it's all her fault.

.......ha ha, you'll have no pockets left soon, might see you wandering around Coldale in just the Reg Grungy's.........anyway, glad I could help burn a whole in your pockets for something worthwile.
Pretty rare & sort after these JFK Lincolns..mmm...460...mmm..RHD mmm.....ragtop....mmm...suicide doors...mmm....LL numberplates. Tell us..............was it an exeptional bargain, this one is definetly unique!
One thing true, you'll be both cruising down the Cruizville Highway in comfort & style, probably got an autolite carby on it, get this tuned & she'll purrr for a lot longer between drink stops!
Cheers Adam........any more stories attached to the day out/cars

Tell us..............was it an exeptional bargain, this one is definetly unique! don't know if it was exceptional, but we're happy with what we paid for it, even though it was more than we originally planned. (damn that other bidder). more stories? lots of loose items, going for cheap prices but nothing of interest to us. eg. box of carbys about $30, crown hand pallet lift - $75 '55 fairlane victoria, lhd good nick - $25000 '14 overland in vg condition - $16000 5 litre vp 'opera house' commodore #001 of 100, vgcond - $8000 '07 300c turned in at $37000, immaculate roller turned in at $21000 i think) didn't stay for all the wrecks etc, was in a bit of dollar shock by then. he was trying to make $400,000 but don't think he got there - only 190 people registered to bid. geoff 'n jude

Hi Geoff,
Hope Judes OK, cause I'd hate to have to run into you without her in control.Look after my 2nd favorite girl please.
460 cubes isn't that big.
Those land yachts would get at least 5 klm/liter, which is 14 mpg.
My rod is about the same weight as the yacht, Has 426 cubes & 4.11 diff, a 5 speed, & gets about 6 km/litre. Thats about 17 mpg.
Bloody hell thats cheap for travelling in class. $1.25 per mile.Thats never slowed me down yet. Jap Crap v8 4wd's dont get any better, and they have absolutelty no class or style.
Costs us sqillions to feed the bludging politicians, so why not enjoy what they leave you & HAVE FUN.
If we can take it with us, theres gonna be a hell of a lot of old vans, cars, & beautiful women join us in Hell.

hi ron
thanks for your comments and it's good to be back.
the lincoln needs a little bit of work including a new top, but when that's done it'll be pretty good.
we're not going to do a full resto on this one - we think that would spoil a car that's in good original condition and a pretty honest car.

Boy, this Judy sounds like a tough cookie, but in reality she is only enforcing what the doctor said. If Geoff isn't a good boy, Judy might take it for a drive by herself & leave him at home Jude & Geoff

If Geoff isn't a good boy, Judy might take it for a drive by herself & leave him at home Jude & Geoff Jude, All I can say, is be carefull ;D This Lincoln is a lot more powerfull that the other Ford brand. 7 litre V8, (300.0 bhp) (223.7 kW), 0 to 100 in 12 seconds which is not bad for a car that weighs 2,340kg! It is a beast Mind you, it would make a great tow car ;D Cheers, Ron

you're right ron. this is from a continental performance portfolio. the big three mentioned were the '62 caddy, imperial and lincoln. (obviously not fitted with an lsd). too much for a gal to handle? geoff 'n jude
