Ditzy & I have just returned from a top weekend with the Eastern states vintage vanners at Coledale.
We flew from Perth to Sydney last Thursday night, hired a car on Friday morning & drove to Coledale.
Only 3 people knew of our pending arrival, John, Lynelle & their son Daniel (Tickos).
We spent most of Friday exploring the beautiful south NSW coastline between Sydney & Wollongong and arrived at Coldale about 3pm.
We went straight to Yvonne & Cobber's camp where we surprised them. Word of our unannouced arrival quickly spread amongst the vintage caravanners.
After a coffee with Bob & Yvonne, they took us on a tour of all the magnificent rigs, and we met many forum members.
The greatest pleasure for us was meeting many of the people who share our enthusiasm & contribute so much to the forum.
Ditzy & I were treated like Royalty ;D & were looked after extremely well. Nothing was too much trouble for anybody.
With "vintagecaravans.com" not being a "club" as such. I sometimes feel as though I'm the dictator from the West, and not everbody agrees with me, consequently I can feel unpopular , but the friendship and goodwill extended to Ditzy & I at Coledale just "blew us away"
A BIG thank you goes to Lynelle & John & Daniel who provided us with accomodation via a sweet lil 1952 11-12 foot bondy in exceptionally original condition . Lynelle fitted the caravan with linen, plates cups etc to make our stay comfortable, and comfortable it was . They had told others that the caravan was Daniel and some friends to sleep in. It was the best kept secret, nobody knew we were coming.
I felt right at home in the lil bondy with the Tickos collection of period stuff inside the van, pots, pans, whistling kettle, kero stove etc, they've obviously been doing the junk shops as we all do .
The whole weekend was very enjoyable, but the highlight was the dinner at the surfclub on Sat night with everbody being dressed in a "scary" theme. Some unbelievable costumes came out of the closets ......I know I was scared ;D ;D ....A BIG thank you to the caterers and Jude & Lynelle & others for organising such a great feed / night. Sadly, the great entertainment provided by Will & Lyn the previous year was missed by some of the patrons.
Sunday morning Ditzy & I had to leave to visit relatives in Sydney. As we were leaving we met even more forum members who had arrived to visit for the day. Apologies for our lack of time to get to know those people better.
In all, a great weekend and well worth our time .....we shall return
Mark
PS. Also a BIG thank you to those who manned the merchandise store.
