I know a few of you purists are going to be upset with what I have done to A frame on the Franklin but I thinks it improves the van and what the heck I am hotrodder and if I can improve something, why not!!!!! The A frame was badly rusted as in the first photo & I have replaced it with a 100 X 75 mm galvanized tubular steel. [/img]IMG_0339.JPG This is the new A Frame [/img]IMG_0342 [800x600].JPG I also had welded in 4 new galvanised steel jacks [/img]IMG_0344.JPG I have put in a click & lock laminated floor, looks great. [/img]IMG_0352.JPG Just fitted the electric brakes, needs a bit of wiring & weighbridge certificate & are nearly ready to get her registered. So look out newbie caravan will hit the road !!!!!!!!

Hi Whippy. Drawbar looks fine to me. Anything to improve safety when towing has got to be a good thing.
Did you fit "crush tubes" inside the 100 X 75 box section so that when you tighten up the coupling to the drawbar the section does not get squashed / distroted. I know it would take a lot of effort to squash it out of shape but the RTA inspection stations in NSW require them to be fitted wether box section or "C" section.
I suppose you where already aware of this but i thought it was worth mentioning.
Good luck with the rego and hope to see you on the road soon. Keep us posted. Reddo

Picture a van overtaking its towcar on its way to oncoming traffic after the rusted A frame gives way.
It has happened.
Yours is a safety modification and there's nothing wrong with that.
Better off with a new A frame than no vintage van at all!!
Terry.

No need to, the front nuts are welded inside the tubing before we put the vertical front plate on. THe guy who did the welding makes trailers for a living, so I assume he knows what he is doing. Regards, Glynn
