Hi A/T,
When you are asking about build numbers for Don caravans, I am not sure whether you are asking about a list of caravans and their build numbers, or where you can actually find the build number for each caravan?
Mark has provided you with information on the first question, but if you are asking the second question, Don caravans had the build number in two places. The first was on a brass plate located on an inside wall of the van. In the 14' vans of the late 40's and early 50's, the plate was located above the stove alcove and below the chimney as shown in this photo:
You can see the brass plate behind the galley light and above the matchbox holder.
I would think the plate would be in a similar position in the 12' vans which also had a side galley. The 10' Dons had front galleys, but I presume a similar plate would be found somewhere inside the van, and I also presume that a similar plate would be also be located in earlier and later Dons. (Perhaps Mark can correct me if I am wrong on any of these counts.)
The second place you can find the build number of Dons is on a similar brass plate on the outside side wall of the caravan, adjacent to the bottom left corner of the door. If you look at the picture of Mark's 10' Don earlier in this thread, you can see the little plate quite clearly just above the edging.
Of course if the van has been painted or 'renovated' the brass plates might have been taken off, which won't help much!
The location of the build number or serial number of other makes of vans will be in different places, depending on the make.
Hope this is helpful. Good luck with the 'viewing'. I hope the van's a really nice one - you've been looking for quite a while, and we'll all be pleased for you when you find what you are looking for!
