Hi Gavin I like what you've done with the lights. Big improvement and suits the vehicle nicely. You must be getting anxious to see the finished product Neil

Thanks for your positive comment neilncheryl !
No, not anxious at all about the finish of the build -I'm really enjoying the ride ( so to speak).
I must admit to looking forward to the day, however, when the car is at pre paint. At that time the stance and body lines of the car will be in place.

From the 10th August,2009 till 9th July,2010 there has been 256.5 hours of body work allocated to the car. The week commencing the 5th July,2010 Brad spent 4 days straight on the car. His dad,Gary, spent a day fabricating the rolled edges of the front guards. The following photos represent a small part of the work carried out during that week. Fabrication of the front, inner guard mounts. Firewall installation. Internal firewall Front guards, rolled edges. The dimples are the result of removing lead fill from previous accident damage to the guard. In addition to the above work, the rear guards have been mocked up into place and the rain drip panel commenced above both doors. Jooles and I are off to Kingaroy Friday week to see "SWELL" in the flesh. Swellwillys

Tell you what Swell, it`s going to take something really spectacular to surpass this build. Spent a while going over the pics again from start to now, picking up little things i`d actually missed seeing before. Think you`ve rewritten the "can`t put a square peg in a round hole" thing. And it`s taken some doing as we`ve all noticed. Many kudos all around. cheers gordon

Thanks Gordon, When you attend car shows and displays you quite often give admiring looks at cars that you like /love.
But the written word has so much more appeal !
Thankyou for your comments.
I am very fortunate to have a wife who shares the dream and a car builder who is very talented and is able to take our dream to reality.

The new nose cone fails to cover the front suspension so Brad has reshaped the front to cover it. Duplicating the existing lines of the body, a bar is added to form the rolled edge of the sheet metal. Tacked into place. Sheet metal added. And the result from below And from the top. Swellwillys.

Hi Gavan,
Little bits like that are the things that really finish off a custom job. I reckon any changed bits should look as close to what the factory could have produced as possible.
Certainly getting more done than mine at present.

Hey John,
Got so many ideas and plans of color/s, wood, textures I've confused my self.
So have decided to wait till the body is finished and then make the final decision then.
Thanks for the time in making a comment.

It's been a while since I updated Swell's progress but she is steadily moving along in a positive direction. The steering column and associated hardware has been installed. Ordered a new,smaller,15 inch Chevy steering wheel than the one in this photo today. New a/c unit installed under the dash. Windscreen wiper assembly installed under the dash and the wiper arms fitted utilizing the original Willy's bases. Template made for new more free flowing Transmission tunnel. On the hoist over the weekend and removed the engine so as easier access can be made to the engine bay. Donk and 4L60E removed. From here the inner edges of the guards will be rounded, and a lip installed, identical to the original. The bonnet will be fitted more exactly and the guards affixed to the chassis rails. (Short sentence, not a lot of words but a lot of work remaining on this area alone).

Rodnet,
Spats I picked up a couple of years back from Swap meet here in Brisvegas!
They are from a Chrysler Airflow.
Color - don't know, seems I get asked that regularly on the forum.
At this stage light timber inserts ( undecided whether that will be airbrushed or real ) and a green is my thinking at the moment.
I have already bought the leather for the interior - Granny apple green, so the exterior may be an offshoot of it!
Thanks for your interest. Swellwillys

After a long delay (Read priorities)work has recommenced on "SWELL". A new trany tunnel to house the auto. Yep its cardboard - a lot cheaper, but doesn't last as long as metal. The real thing steel.

Good to see the build progressing again Gavan, I have been wondering what was happening with it. Still lots to go obviously but the workmanship that has gone into this car is terrific, hope all goes well for the rest of the project.
Gunna be AWESOME!! ;D ;D

Hi Gavin From the tiki-rific silver Sunny, and the Talant to this - I'm really hanging out to see it all together. I'd have to agree with Rod that airbrushing faux-bois would look "swell" - and along those lines check out these painted wood bicycles with the same effect... www.robswoodgrainbikes.com/#356952/Bike-GalleryI think the apple colour on the outside would look fantastic as well - what about two shades? One for the body and a toned shade for the wheel guards? Just admiring the work you and Jools put in from here (you're right, words are VERY nice). Cheers Seeshell

Thanks for the comments cruisindoug. And thanks for the kool link on the wood grain bikes seeshell. (I have many many ideas floating around in the head at the moment as to colours and textures etc,but I believe once the exterior is finished it will be dictated by the lines of the car) Suffice to say that it will definitely have an Art Deco theme to it. I bought some seats from a Japanese wrecker up here in Brisbane some time ago. Electric slide up/down tilt forward/backwards to fit to Swell. Very comfy too. These photos show the modifications to the floor to allow the fitting of the seats. The recess now allows the seat cradle to fit. Also keeps the seat nice and low. Work has commenced on the exterior. I'll post some more photos later. Swellwillys.

Making the cowl section flow by removing the old panel: And installing the new. Both sides identical. Radiator delivered Monday, so it's the next installation. Then it's onto the final fitting of the bonnet, and the inner fenders. Swellwillys
