Our vintage car wont tow a van Well i suppose it could it has an 1835cc engine it but its not really practical for us. Guess we will have to buy something else as we only have this beetle and mini's for classics and a vintage van just wouldnt look right behind an AU XR6. The beetle is for sale and we are hopefully going this week to look at an XP Falcon. Cheers, Ian and Lisa.

Hi all,
Fords and Holdens.....you take Sally, I'll take Sue, ain't much difference between the two (unless we are talking about F trucks). I think just about any 50s/60s Jag would tow our van with style, grace and grunt.
That oughta start a debate.

Pommy Cars a great We have 3 mini's and a morris 1100 at the moment and Ian used to own a brittish spare parts shop I cant count how many pommy cars we have had. We have been looking for a Triumph herald but have spotted the XP FALCON (Yes a great FORD) that we are going to look at tonight. If it aint pommy or a FORD it doesnt belong at our house thats also why the beetle must go. Lisa.

Lisa & Ian, If you go for an XP get a fairmont....the 200cuin motor and power Disc brakes make towing a doddle (thoroughly britttish word!). I have an XP Fairmont station wagon and an EH Premier Wagon but the FORD IS BEST!....... when it comes to towing. My Sunliner weighs 700 kg UNLADEN. Probably about a tonne with everything on board. Regards Humpty

We've got a Toyota and a Volvo.....unfortunately sold the '65 S Type.
Have to say that neither of the Falcon utes that I've owned made me feel any more Australian.

Hey Lisian, Don't sell the VW!!! You've gotta help the VW side out here! All these Holdens and Fords Its disgusting! hahaha I agree get yourself a teardrop... I'm currently restoring one to tow with my 1200 bug ;D And you have how many cc's under the engine lid??? 1835cc Just get yourself a large easy-to-erect tent to park the teardrop trailer in and your set... Infact I cannot see any reason at all why you could'nt tow a full height van around 10ft with the upgraded brakes and suspension mods your bug obviously has. Cheers Greg aka Vee Dub Nut P.S. By the way is that Boris's Picnic Day at Milperra where those photos were taken?

Hi ian and lisa
I am not totally one eyed. I just find Holdens good value for money, easy to find parts for ( on the rare occassion they breakdown) easy to fix, solid enough to handle australian conditions and the big plus .... They .... like me.... are Australian made. OK they might have been born of the yanks General Motors but that was a long time back and i choose to ignore minor discrepancies like that.
I also like british cars.... not as much as the bikes but i have learnt to tolerate MGs, Jags, healys etc. Brother has 3 MGs..... a TC with supercharger, a TA drophead tickford coupe and a MGB GT V8.
I recently dragged a 1972 Norton Commando 750cc out of a blokes shed in Woolongong. beside it was a very nice white mark 11 jag. repainted and reupholstered in black leather. The owner indicated that it was heading for eBay with around $4000 being the start . Reserve not much above that.
Cheers Reddo

Hi Reddo, Would be interested in knowing the guys name, phone or address if possible? Probably have to talk Lisa into it, but worth a look if it's not gone already. Norton Commando 750 ;D , neat bike, something I haven't restored before is a bike. Thanks
Ian

Hi lisian, thought I might have my first go at photobucket, by trying to show you the dearly departed S Type: 3.8 manual overdrive, 4.2 block, balanced, blueprinted, modified cams, high compression, triple SUs, etc. All that red leather, walnut, Motolita, chrome wires, and shiny Old English White. But what I miss most?....the sound....better, yep, better than a V8. tim

Hi Tim, You are right, Damn it would have looked awesome. Oh and the sound, I know exactly what you mean. Nobody will understand until they have the experience. But why on gods earth did you sell it Ian

Ian,
To keep it would have meant having 3 vehicles, which was beyond us..so we traded jag for baby - about the only thing that could provide adequate compensation.

Tim, We have to do what we have to do. We know how you feel, we've gone from 8 cars to 5 so we sell the beetle and a mini and then we can buy a caravan and another classic tow car. Should be set then ;D Ian

Ian, What sort of van are you after? I seem to have a knack for unearthing them....might become a vintage van broker. Tell me size, style, material and condition and will keep a lookout.
