It wasn't a reaffirmation wedding for you and DonnaR that you ran away from was DonR??? Did you shake the crowd-funding bucket for my tow vehicle around the wedding guests? Or did they just all pin money onto DonnaR's dress? Hi Roehm, No, it wasn't a reaffirmation ceremony for us. It was a wedding for a chap I've been friends with since we were both 14. I tried suggesting to the happy couple that they might like to donate all their wedding presents to the "Let's Buy Roehm3108 a Suitable Tow Car for the Cino Vardo Fund", but for some reason they wouldn't be in it... So I've been looking at how we can get some 'tin rattlers' out on the streets of Australian cities to raise some money for such a worthy project. But it will take a bit of time. First we have to register you as a charity. It's best if we can get you treated as being a disadvantaged person - that's easy, because without an appropriate tow car for Cino Vardo you're clearly disadvantaged!! After that we have to get your charity registered for fundraising in each state. We need that so that the tin rattlers won't get arrested. Then we need to find some tin rattlers who can stand on street corners and rattle their tins. I'm sure a lot of forum members will jump at the chance... I think it best if we carry out our campaign just before Christmas. We can use the slogan "Give Roehm3108 a Happy Christmas". I'm sure everyone will respond to that! Sorry I've been a bit slow getting the money together for your vehicle, but I'm sure with such a great business van - I mean plan - we'll get there. Won't we? Don Ricardo (PS As you may guess from the above, you've finally found an area I have some expertise in! )

Hi DonR As with travelling with vintage caravans whilst towing with a vintage/veteran tow car, your fundraising method may well have been effective in VV era times, but cars were much slower then and tin rattlers could actually approach a car and get a donation before the lights changed and said car sped off to parts unknown. In today's age, you have to do a bit more lateral thinking and not rely on other v/vanners who are all busily restoring or building caravans. As you do have ample spare time on your hands whilst DonnaR chauffeurs you around the countryside, look up this link on how funds are raised these days: www.business.gov.au/finance/seeking-finance/crowdfunding-how-to-fund-your-business-ideaYou will notice that this site has the authority to assure us that it would work - it was issued by the government!! You will need to get a wriggle on if you're going to raise the deposit for Swellwilly's rig!!! PS Didn't mean to hijack your thread!!

Hi Mustang,
The plate on the Roadmaster is just a current general issue South Australia registration plate with the format 'Snnn-aaa'. Nothing special I don't think.

Don Ricardo I just noticed it started with an "S" . In Qld cars with special interest plates start with "SI" . We live in hope for vintage vans also. Cheers Mustang

I was referring to Special Interest where you only pay a small price for limited use, like Victoria where it is about $48 per year. I pay $230 per year for our Walden. Cheers

Oh Ok, sorry, I misunderstood. You are right, historic registration for vans in Qld would be a good thing. Cheers

Hi Mustang and Wodnas,
We don't have historic registration for caravans (or cars) as such in Victoria. We have a Club Permit system for motor vehicles (including cars, motor cycles and trailers/caravans) which means that you must belong to an approved motor vehicle club, and are then issued with a Club Permit plate. As the name says, it is a permit to use an unregistered vehicle on the road, it is not registration as such.
The cost of a Club Permit for a caravan for 90 days use per year is $71.60, and for 45 days use per year $47.20. In contrast, full registration for a caravan is only $62.40 per year, so that's actually cheaper than a Club Permit for 90 days, and not much more than a Club Permit for 45 days. Even if you were only intending to use your van for 45 days or less you'd probably still go for full registration because of the hassle of obtaining and maintaining a Club Permit - and it is a hassle. There's also the cost of membership of a classic motor vehicle club to factor in. I'm not sure I know anyone in Victoria who has their van on a Club Permit. (Of course in relation to a motor vehicle, the cost of a Club Permit is so much less than full registration that you definitely choose that option if you can.)
Not sure how all that lines up with Special Interest registration in Queensland? Obviously your regular caravan registration cost is quite a lot more than ours (but just don't tell our state government, ok?)
