A topic that has been discussed on here previously is the legality of caravans with doors on the right hand or off side. Example, imported airstreams etc. I'm not sure if it was ever conclusively answered but I am just filling out the paperwork to register a small trailer & it says 'If the trailer is a caravan, ensure the door is located on the left and/or rear of the caravan' So in Victoria it is therefore a legal requirement that the door is on the left or near side. (or rear).

Hi sgtl, That’s why you will often see an import with an Australian caravan door fitted on the right side! It’s a way of registering a grey import, often these doors are in place of a window or lead into a wardrobe! I’ve also recently seen a fifth wheeler with a door in the high section with a seven foot drop! Cheers hughdeany
